"Don't laugh. You didn't see the little kamikazes running at your team. You wanted to see us before we left?" The General replied:"Just wanted to wish you luck and say that you are free to engage anyone you see even if not provoked. You are to shoot first and ask questions later understood?" Hogan couldn't supress his smile. "Yes, Sir!"

The wormhole established, SG-7 ran through. With a little work, the area around the gate was secured. Joshua set up the M4 on its bipod and loaded the first ammo chain. "Tat, tat, tat!" the gun recoiled hard, literaly sending enemies flying, and making his ears ring in the process.

Hogan set up a second M4 and commenced to shooting. "This is sad. Do they not see all the dead bodies?" The words were hardly out of his mouth when they stopped coming.

The remaining men backed up and then retreated. Joshua counted seventy or eighty bodies on the ground around the gate. "Stupid, aren't they?" Joshua say with his voice slightly elevated since his ears were still ringing from the gun shots.

At that moment one man walked out into the open. Hogan reacted quickly. "Hold your fire. I think he wants to talk." Maybe they wouldn't have to kill any more of them.

The man held his hands in front of him, showing he was unarmed. "Shala, shala," he kept repeating this as he walked toward them. "Great, they don't speak english... I guess he's trying to say 'peace.' " Joshua said to Hogan, keeping a close eye on the man.

Hogan glanced at Josh and wispered"Take your hands off the gun," then to the man, "Shala......do you understand my words?" Maybe they spoke English too.

Joshua slowly moved his hands away from the gun, careful not to let the barrel touch the ground. He kept the safety off on his side arm, just in case. The man kept walking toward them, ignoring Hogan's attempt to make peace. Joshua thought the expression on the man's face was strange, he looked very grim... not like someone trying to end a conflict. He noticed a bulge under the man's clothing. Without pausing, he took out his pistol and shot him three times in the chest.

The man's chest blew up in a nice shower of blood. "Good call. Back to shooting first then." With that Hogan shot a few of the new wave of vikings.

"We're at a disadvantage here, we should try to move to higher ground!" Joshua was shouting over the fire fight. He pointed to a nearby ridge with an open view of the surrounding area. The latest wave seemed less-dense, maybe they were running out of men.

"Get to that ridge. I'll cover you." Hogan was getting a bit worried now. They weren't giving up and there seemed to be no end to their reserves. "I think it's time to break out the grenades."

"I'm going!" Joshua shouted as he slung the M4 from his shoulder. The gun was hard to use like this, but he couldn't keep it in its stationary mode. A spear whizzed by his head, "Sh**! They've got stuff better than swords!" He yelled back to Hogan.

Hogan wasn't impressed by the spear. "Maybe we should pick up some of their shields." Hogan grabbed two and threw one to Josh, then blocked a spear with his own. He ran up the hill after Josh and was amazed by what he saw. There was an empty camp on the other side, and enough bodies on the ground to occupy it. This would be the last wave for a while.

"They remind me of ants. I can see another cave in the distance." Joshua pointed in its direction, he saw men streaming out of it. "It looks like they live underground in those caves and attack anything they can with no concern for their own lives, but there seems to be plenty of them."

Hogan threw several grenades into the cave. "That should keep em busy for a minute. We should find a bit more cover."
