Captain Takeshi stood at the end of the long table in the briefing room aboard the Ulysses. Data was flowing through his field of vision via the built in HUD of his cybernetic eyes. It was 04.13.485NE. Some people had already arrived, and a few more would be coming. He thought to himself. New recruits. Good. We need some fresh thinkers in this place. Fleet Admiral Rouge sat at the chair beside Captain Takeshi. She was an imposing figure, especially with the large beam rifle she always carried with her, but it was very odd for her to be present at recruitment ceremonies.
The gray tones of the room seemed a bit stifling. It was usual for an Oracle's Guard recruitment, but Takeshi didn't like the blandness in his briefing room. He had already asked the chief engineer to add some color after the recruitment was done. Caught mid-thought, the door opened and what he hoped was the last of the recruits started to come through.

The Janitor was sitting at the long table, deep in concentration on the Rubik's cube in his hands. The thousand year old toy had already had numerous solutions posted on places such as internet, but he wanted to figure it on his own.
After being frustrated with the cube, he set it down and payed more attention to the recruits walking through the door.

A man clad in black armor with dark urban camouflage fatigues underneath boarded the ship and started to make his way to the briefing room. There, the Marine would meet the Captain and Admiral that he was to be under the command of. The NTM armor Ice wore made the surroundings seem dark. The N-TAR that Neo-Terran Marines carry was slung over his right shoulder and the sling held in his right, gauntleted hand. It was a deadly weapon, especially since the Marine had added an acog scope, a flashlight and a laser-sight to it.
The halls and corridors of the Ulysses were plain and almost unbearable to look at. Even through the visor of his helmet, the Marine could barely stand to look at the walls and ceiling. In all of the places he's been in, this ship was probably the most unstylish of them all; there wasn't even any paintings or pictures on the walls for Christ's sake!
Finally the Marine came to the door of the briefing room. It slid open as the Marine walked through. He reached up with his left hand and grasped his helmet, pulling it off his head and holding it at his side. His silver eyes looked around the room, noting the Captain and Admiral. His right hand released the sling on the N-TAR and came up, straight with his fingers touching his forehead just below the short brown hair in a salute.
"Gunnery Sergeant Ice, Oracle's Guard Marine Defense force-two. Infantry, class-0311, reporting for duty."

"Sit down, you will be introduced in roll call..." The Janitor said, sliding a seat out from beside him.

Captain Takeshi smiled at the sight of the marine. "Welcome aboard, Ice." He brought his hands up in front of him, one balled inside the other, and bowed slightly. It was the salute used by Neo Terran Navy. He glanced over at the Admiral, and she nodded to him. "You're now a member of my ship's crew." He paused momentarily as some data flowed over his HUD. "Ah, it seems you've been given a command position. You're the head of the sniper team. Congratulations. Go ahead and have a seat by The Janitor."
A few more people came into the room, then the guards that had been standing just inside the door stepped out. The door slid shut with a quiet whoosh. Admiral Rouge looked at one of the recruits. One of the archaeologists, or so Takeshi thought. "Now then, I believe we'll start with introductions. I am Fleet Admiral Rouge. I command the Neo Terran battle fleet. However, I will not be commanding this ship directly. Captain?"
Captain Takeshi saluted her quickly then turned to the group. "I am Captain Takeshi. I command this ship, the Ulysses. Those of you who have been here for a while, would you kindly state your name, rank, and position aboard the Ulysses? And those of you who are new recruits, please state your name and the skills for which you have been recruited."

"I am the Janitor." He said, standing up. "I have been aboard this ship for ten years (if that is too long, i will fix it) and I am a Lieutenant in the field of engineering. Most of the fix up or tweaking operations I either oversee, test, or do myself. And yes, I can also do Janitorial services, but we have people for that job."

Ice sat down where the Janitor had told him to. He was a pure bred soldier; simple minded yet deadly. He unslung the N-TAR from his shoulder and leaned it -barrel up- against the seat he was sitting in. When the Janitor stood up and began introducing himself. Ice didn't pay much attention. Unless they were apart of his newly assigned sniper team, he had no interest in it. His silver eyes slowly shifted around the room as the Janitor finished the introduction.
Ice stood up in what seemed like a dragged out way. When his body became fully erect and his head up with eyes straight foward, he finally introduced himself to the new comers. "My name is Ice. I'm a Gunnery Sergeant in the Oracle's Guard Marine Defense Force-Two (OGMDF-2 for future references). I've been assigned to this vessel to be the apart of the ground force and security measures." Ice paused for a few seconds and started again. "I've seen every campaign the Oracle's Guard been in for the last year, and before that a few campaigns in the Neo-Terran Marines. I am a rifleman but have ranked expert in all weaponry known to the Oracle's Guard."

Garet stood up in front of the others, a little miffed, wondering why on Neo Terra these guys didn't give their real names. However, pushed it from his thoughts as he spoke.
"The name's Garet Draconis," he said in a formal tone,"But just call me Garet. Don't use my last name please. I'm an archaeologist assigned to Ulysses. A pleasure to meet all of you."
It wasn't exactly protocol to briefings, but he was never one for protocol. He was thinking again, curious as to why Fleet Admiral Rouge had looked at him. She looked a little familiar, but then again, he always had a feeling of deja vu....

Fleet Admiral Rouge listened to all of them give their introductions, then she hit a few buttons on her control panel at her end of the table. The red light of the panel seemed to bring out her red hair and crimson uniform in an almost demonic glow. She looked up from the panel as the guards came back in from outside. They stopped by one of the recruits, then escorted him outside. The doors slid shut with ominous silence. "Congratulations on passing the test. Your introductions say a lot about you. Unfortunately, he will be reassigned to a different Oracle's Guard position. The rest of you are cut out for working on the Ulysses." She looked directly at Garet. "You seem to show some recognition of me. I'm glad. We were in the same training at the marine boot camp. Your audacity and ability to look out for yourself are the reasons I requested you." She nodded to Captain Takeshi.
Takeshi quickly saluted her then turned back to the group. "As for the rest of you, I requested each of you, based either on past history or service record. You are the last of the primary crew to be recruited. Ice, you have the sniper team. Janitor, you're our second-in-command engineer. Garet, you are the head of the archaeological survey team. You will be working with another, but that person hasn't arrived yet, and may not arrive for some time." He listed off the names of a few more recruits. "You are all members of the survey team and answer to Garet." He listed off the rest of the names of the recruits. "You are all members of the security team. Ice is one of your superiors, but the specific unit assignments will be given by our head of security. Any questions?"

"Captain Takeshi, I have one. Please forgive me for being forward, but there seems to be something missing from the papers I was sent. Exactly, what is it that we archaeologists are here to uncover?" Garet asked. It seemed to him that he was requested as a memeber of the team, but he was neglected to be told exactly what he was to be uncovering. He was also a little unnerved that he had just been giving command of the archaeological team, something he wasn't sure he was ready for yet, but he would make due...

"Yes, I have one too." Janitor said, sitting up. "Who is my superior, and do I have command over all of the engineering jobs, from fixing a jammed door to fixing the fusion core of the ship?"

"Of course." Captain Takeshi looked towards Admiral Rouge expectantly.
Rouge sighed a bit, then hit a few more button on her panel. The panels in front of everyone else opened up, displaying some information. "That is what we're doing. The weapon that defended this planet a while back has been moved to this ship. It also had everything that was dug up brought aboard. The analysts are already working on that part. The job of this vessel is to continue the dig. But, we have to move location. We're going to the moons of Neo Terra first. We believe that there are more relics on the moons. The archaeology team will be exploring the moons. However, we also believe that some of the Gemini system fleet may be on the moons as well. When they attacked we lost our moon bases long before they came for Neo Terra itself. You have the best ship and the best crew, so that will maximize your chances." She flipped another button on her panel. "Captain, I've just activated your new security clearance level. You can brief them from here on out. Unfortunately, I am needed elsewhere. Carry on." With that Admiral Rouge stood up, slung her rifle over her shoulder, then headed out of the briefing room.
Captain Takeshi stared out the door as it slid shut, more than a little confused at her abrupt departure. "Well, I guess we know what we're doing now. Any more questions?"
After Janitor spoke up, Takeshi read something from his cybernetic HUD. "Janitor, it looks like you are second in command for engineering. Your superior is down in the core room right now. I have a feeling she'll be letting you have your way though. She doesn't like being in charge that much, but she's the best core mechanic this world has. Oh, but make sure you read up on the core before you mess with it. The Oracle's Guard fleet doesn't use fusion cores like the Neo Terran Navy does. We use dark energy cores. I think you'll like it."

"Dark energy... Alrighty." Janitor said, thinking over what he had learned in school.
"Also, will we have an officers' quarters where our personal space will be kept?"

Ice raised his right hand and pinched the bridge of his nose. He stood up, having the almost lazy appearance again. His left hand raised over his head, holding his helmet. Ice slid it on and made sure it was a tight fit. He looked down to his right at his N-TAR. Reaching over with his right hand, he grabbed the barrel of the rifle and picked it up. His left hand held the forearm grip while his right hand slid down to the handle. He held it low and pointed diagnolly downwards towards his left.
"Suppose I should get a newer rifle then, and probably meet my team. Sir, will I recieve orders of where to station the security or am I improvising?"

Takeshi shot The Janitor an annoyed glance. "Of course we all have private quarters. What do you think this is, a frigate? This battlecruiser is more than equipped to give its crew a touch of luxury that most other ships don't offer. Of course, the walls still need color, but the chief engineer is also an artist. That's one of the things that she'll do when she leaves you in command." He turned to Ice. "You can improvise for now, but the head of security may change things on you. Your team is all yours though. They're waiting on Sim-deck Two. I think they want to see how good you are with a rifle. They brought a few new items for you to look at too. I think the items are all rifles. If you like one, let me know. I'll reserve it for you." Takeshi saluted the marine with the navy salute again. "Dismissed, Ice."
Takeshi turned back to the rest of the group. "If there are no more questions, you're free to explore the ship. Just try and stay out of someone's way if they seem busy or in a hurry. I allow running in my halls." He chuckled a bit.
