3...2...1...
The bell rang, the clock showing just after two in the afternoon, and chairs scraped over tile as the classroom began to clear out. While most students made for the door, Aaron got out of his seat near the back, and when the professor wasn't looking, slipped out the window. Bag securely over both shoulders, he edged along the narrow window sill to the corner of the building, and dropped, catching the sill by his fingers as he braced against the wall. He looked down, nearly twenty feet to the grass below, stretching his arms out as far as they would go. He let go, turning as he fell, hit and rolled nearly perfectly. The bag on his back threw him a bit off to the side and he regained his feet in a bit of a stagger. Not perfect, but the roll had done it's job of absorbing the fall so he hadn't blown out his knees. Easily vaulting the waist high stone wall that separated the grass from the walkway that snaked along side the science building, Aaron jogged at an easy pace. It was a beautiful Friday afternoon, he was done with lessons for the day, which meant for him, it was officially the weekend. His parkour group would be meeting in three hours for practice, they were going to try their luck on the squat storage buildings on the east end of the campus. The low, close placed buildings would make for good jumping and dropping practice.

"Jesus, Chunk, so much for seconds, eh?" Dexter said as he looked up at his roommate's plate, stacked high with pepperoni pizza. He was just finishing up a drawing for a graphic novel that he had been working on for his midterm. The drawing was of a girl with flowing red hair and fantastic armor. there were metallic Angel wings sprouting from the back, and she carried a great staff. His professor was requiring concept art by Monday, and this was the last piece for his portfolio. He wrote the name "Ezmeralda" underneath of it, and filed it away next to Gerald, a gothic looking man with tattoos all over him and a longsword, Xavier, a man in his mid-twenties with a bomber jacket and a ridiculously large Desert Eagle, and Flannigan, a larger man with curly hair, a plaid kilt, and a giant ax.
"Oh whatever," Marty "Chunk" Johnson, Dexter's roommate, said. "There's plenty left for ya, Dex."
"There'd better be," Dexter replied, "I paid for half." He turned on the television to ESPN. It was College football kick off weekend; as far as Dex was concerned it was Christmas.

With a pop, the tv signal dissolved into static. There was a collective groaning, moaning, and swearing from rooms up and down the dorm, followed by many thuds and bangs as the students resorted to the age old method of tv repair...smacking the side of the device in hopes of jarring something back in place.
Aaron waved at Evan, jogging up the path towards him. " Hey man, nothing much, how about you?"

"Oh God d**n it," Dexter said. The announcer had just gotten to the Boston College prospects for the year, and the crummy t.v. decides to cut out! At that moment, Alexa Freeman opened the door of his older brother's apartment. "Hey, Dex, what the f**k? You're supposed to be introducing me to the head of your Parkour team, and you're here watching static? Oh, hey, Marty," she said.
"Oh, right," Dexter said. He'd forgotten all about practice today. Dexter had gotten into Parkour as a freshman in college, and his sister had also taken an interest in it. Dexter secretly theorized that Alexa had a crush on him, but he would never mention it, for fear of her retaliation. "Okay, let's go then. We'll be back later, Chunk."
Once outside the building, Dexter turned to his sister and smiled. "How about a little warm up? Meeting's at east parking garage. Get there before I do, and I'll try and set you a date with him as well," he said with a laugh.
"You f**ker!" Alexa said and shoved her older brother. "I'll be waiting!" Dexter said as he bolted off across the parking lot. He knew he had an unfair advantage in that Alexa didn't know the campus as well, but it would be a good measure of her skill. Plus, she did have some knowledge of the campus in the three years that she'd come down here drinking with him.
He took a set of stairs two at a time until the walls on either side got narrow enough to where he could boost himself up over them. from there, he was across the quad, over the long line of bike racks, and up the path, moving straight along as opposed to following the path itself. While on it, he saw Aaron talking to some other kid he'd seen around a few times. "Hey, Aaron!" he said as he ran past.
Alexa began running as soon as her brother did, but she took a bit of a different path. Darting across the street, hopping a hedgerow, and sliding between rails of a sidewalk guard, she was running down Stadium Avenue towards the east parking garage. She rounded the corner and hopped a couple of wooden fences, cutting diagonally across a parking lot to the parking garage, where Dexter was waiting for her. "Oh d**n it," she said.
"give it time, sis, you'll get better."

" Hey Dex, see you in a few for practice," Aaron called as Dexter ran by. He turned back to Evan. " You should come join us some time, it's a lot of fun."
Phil, who who roomed in the dorm across the hall, stuck his head in Dexter's and Marty's doorway. " Yo Chuck, ya got a flashlight? Some dudes went to the basement to check the cable hook up, but the lights ain't working down there."

"Hmm... what do you guys do? If it is something that is pure recreation, I will join. I dont like to get ultra competitive with other people..."

" Parkour," Aaron said. " You only compete against yourself really. It's really excellent exercise, and you'll be amazed at how quickly you can get from one place to another once you pick up some the skills of it." Something flashed briefly in the corner of Aaron's vison and he turned to look. The path they were on sided along a wide open field in the middle of the campus, almost a half mile across from this side to the next. He wasn't certain, but he could have sworn he had seen someone running, really running full out, and someone had been chasing the first. He shook his head, at that distance, he could easily have mistook what he saw, especially out of the corner of his eye like that.

"Whats up?" Evan asked, turning his head also. He saw nothing. Turning back, he said "Well if I get to jump walls, and climb stuff like a ninja, I am all for it."

Aaron opened his mouth, but hesitated. Too many people thought of some over the top movie stunt they'd seen when they first heard of parkour, and he wasn't one to try and promote that idea of it. He didn't like giving people the wrong impression, but he was never certain about how to set things straight without putting people off of trying it in the first place. His attempt never got started as a terrible, painful scream echoed across the field. Aaron's heart lept into his throat. He hadn't seen wrong, he had seen someone being chased, someone in trouble. The scream cut off suddenly, leaving an uneasy silence. Before he could think about what he was doing, Aaron had vaulted the low wall again, and was running across the field. He had no idea what he thought he would do when he got to the other side, but he felt that he had to do something.

Hearing the scream, Dr. Norton ran out of the building and turned towards the sound. Two of her students, who she absolutely hated, were with her. Rachel and David.
"Hey, let's go check it out! There might be blood!" David said. Rachel interrupted him before he could say anything else. "OR there could be someone in trouble, in which case we should go the other way."
Dr. Norton ignored them both. "If you two want to pass this year, you're coming with me. If someone really is in trouble you two are going to help." With that she ran towards the sound, two reluctant students in tow.
Rounding a corner, she found the source of the scream, and she skidded to a halt.

Laying spread out on the concrete sidewalk was a person, though who it was could not be seen. Crowding around on all sides, hunched over the person, were several other people, some on their hands and knees. Blood was splattered everywhere, running in thick streams down the spaces between the sidewalk slabs. The group hunched over the person seemed to be...eating the body. With a sickening crunch, one of them pulled at the victim's arm, and the limb snapped, twisted, and came loose entirely.

"oh sure," Marty said as he fished through the junk drawer of the dorm until he came up with a flashlight. "Hey, I'll tag along, too." He followed the group into the basement. It was dank, and it smelled of must. Marty sneezed loudly, and it echoed off of the walls.
Dexter and Alexa heard the scream from where they were. "Jesus, Dex, you think someone's getting attacked in broad daylight?" Alexa asked.
"Probably a drama audition," Dex said. He leaned against a wall of the parking garage.
"I don't know, Dex. I'm gonna go check it out," Alexa replied.
"Okay, but be back soon. Aaron should be here in a few minutes."
Alexa jogged off towards the sound of the scream, eventually coming across the scene of a person missing an arm, surrounded by two groups of people. One group was kneeling over the body, and one group was standing a ways away. Alexa chose to join the bystanders. "What's going on?" she whispered to no one in particular.
Dexter should have gone with her. He instead pulled a package of skittles from his pocket and popped a few in his mouth. When he turned back the other way, he saw John from the group standing on the other side. "hey man, have some skittles?" He tossed a couple John's way, but they just bounced off his face. He snapped to and looked at Dex, then charged. It was Dexter's good luck that he had used his extra two credits to take a Jujitsu class. He sidestepped the attack. "What the f**k, John?" But John was up and charging again. Dexter ducked under the sloppy grab attempt. "Seriously, what in the hell are you--" and he noticed it. Blood smeared on John's face and a glassy look in his eye. Dexter ran, jumping over hedges and vaulting the wall that separated the parking lot. He ran across the street, and John was after him. Had Dexter been 5 seconds later, he would have been hit by the van instead of John. There was a sickening crunch, but the van didn't even stop. "What the hell is happening?" Dexter wondered. He got out his cell phone and dialed Aaron's number.

Next to Marty, Phil jumped, then shot the man an annoyed stare. " Dude Chunk, whatcha trying to do, give me a heart attack?" Grumbling about Marty, the dust, the dark, and the cable, Phil tried to make out the basement layout. The dorm was big, and basement was criss crossed with numerous support beams that made a concrete maze out of the place. Off to their left, both guys heard a sudden movement of footsteps. " Yo, Abe, that you man?" Phil called out. A low, growling moaning noise answered. " Abe? Yo man, don't fool around, ya hear me?"
The man holding the arm looked up as he used his teeth to rip a long strip of flesh from the limb, and he paused a second as he caught sight of the group watching. With a growling shout, he jumped awkwardly to his feet, and rushed at them. Bloody hands reached out with writhing, grasping fingers.
Aaron was only halfway across the field when his phone rang, startling him at first. Slowing just long enough to pull it out, he kept running as he answered. " What?"

Alexa followed close behind Aaron and the others, thankful she had worn long pants today as opposed to a skirt.
"where the f**k are you? I just watched John Niermeyer get hit by a f**king bus, man! Something's f**ked up. He was chasing me, and his face was all bloody. Is Alexa with you?" Dexter shouted into his phone as fast as the words would come out. He was bolting across the quad, headed for his dorm room.
