Larq gave him a concerned look. "Excuse me?" he said after a moment. "What is he looking for?" he thought only to himself. He pulled out a seat and gestured for Broem to sit.

Broem took the chair, though he turned it around and sat with his legs to either side, propping his elbows on the chair back and his chin on his hands. " How are you?" He asked. " It's not easy to lose a man under your command."

"Briiish! You need not say more. I must learn to use better strategy should I lead a group to battle again. I fear I may have overestimated the enemy, or underestimated my unit...or both." he began to ramble and spray, pacing the room back and forth, unaware that Broem's intents were to put him at ease, not to alert him. He continued to list off all of the "flaws" in his strategy for that battle. "In the end, I guess what I wish to say...is that I take full responsibility for what happened there." he added at length, ending his long, figety, speech with a spray from his gills.

Broem sighed deeply, standing up and offering the chair to Larq. " Sit down," he said, gently, but without room to argue. " You take full responsibility do you? Well, I'm sorry to inform you, but you can't do that."

"Fine then, maybe we will!" Palira retorted, hoping to provoke a response from the engineer. This was just a game to her; the prize was checking out whatever the man was hiding.
Dashing over to Jovi, she grabbed the taller man's arm. "Come on, Jovi!" she said, giving a tug.

"I can't?"Larq gave Broem a confused look and collapsed backwards into the chair. He scratched his head for a moment and shuddered to relive stress. "Why can't I?" he thought outwardly before he could speak the words. "If I had him a further distance from the fray, say, opposite the tower maybe, or perhaps advancing upon the enemy power supply with Fernau, we might not've lost him." he shook his head. "My explosives make me too cautious. My suit was orriginally designed as an anti-infantry suit, y'know. I don't know why I decided to go with that Murhal inventor's idea on armaments. The suit in itself is virtually a liabillity." he continued to ramble nervously, almost forgetting to spray his gills, as his habbit typically had him do.

Darald kept a close watch and a ready step to block the hallway if needed. He may not have been a soldier, but he was no fool, and wasn't one to let his guard down. " Tell you what, how about a deal?"
" If, may, perhaps...not very certain words," Broem pointed out. " As for responsibility, well I was the highest ranked squad member, so I already have to take more responsibility than you by default. I could have, may have, might have, whatever. And what of the bug that killed him? I would say a good deal of the responsibility for the death has to go to the killer. I don't think there is much responsibility left for you really. No, you can not claim full responsibility, not even half as much."

The way her ears perked up, it was no great challenge to see that Darald had caught Palira's attention. Still holding onto Jovi's arm, though not pulling on it any more, she looked back to the engineer. "What kind of deal?"

"Now this should be interesting..." Jovi said, and relaxed his arm that was being held by his comrade.

Darald held out a data pad he fished from his back pocket. " I need to get approval from the captain for a few of the tweeks I want to do, but well..." The engineer looked stern. " He doesn't take to me very well, if you know what I mean. Take this to him for me and bring it back with his thumb scan, and I'll give you a tour personally. Hell, you get him to agree to all of these, and I'll let you help if you want to."

Palira snatched the device from the outstretched hand the way a youth might snatch proffered candy. Her face was lit with delight and wonder as she carefully examined the it from all sides. Thoroughly satisfied that it really was what the man said it was, she shot Darald a quizzical look. "Really? You promise?"

Darald scowled as if he was about to agree to sell his soul to Satan, but he nodded. " Yeah girl, I promise. Help me, I must be mad, but yeah."

Palira's face lit up like a light bulb and, with an exclaimed, "Yay!" she started to dash back down the hallway, then came to an abrupt halt. She didn't know the way to the captain's room. One might think that with all her prowling, she would know every nook and cranny of the ship, but in truth she never paid any attention to where she was going. Half the time she got lost on her way to her room.
She turned back around for the umpteenth time. "Where is the captain?"

Darald grimaced as he felt a tightening at his temples that was a sure sign of a coming headache. Pinching at the bridge of his nose as if hoping it would let off pressure, he sighed. " The bridge girl, try the bridge..."

"Right. . . " Screwing up her face in concentration, it was obvious Palira didn't get it. Suddenly, as if sparked by the flick of a switch, an idea came to her. "I know!" she said, all anticipation now, "You know the way, right Jovi? You can show me the way!"
