" I've bought us time," Konar said. " Time enough hopefully to finish fortifying the town. If we have to go on a mission or two under Isferg's command, fine, but he won't see our real strength if I can help it, not until it's too late for him."

Thoughts ran through Hiranna's head, mostly implications of what Konar had said but there was also many warnings she wanted to give him as well. There would be time for those later. Hopefully. At the moment all she wanted was to pump information out of him. "Is that all you did? It seemed like a little more to me."

Konar shrugged. " I got a feel for the man I suppose, and a look at some of his forces. He seems well equiped, but not more so then us."

Konar's statement about the troops seemed true enough. . . "But he has a long term financial plan, which we don't to the best of my knowledge." Still riding along, Hiranna seemed to be paying more attention to Snowhare's saddle than to where they were going or even to the conversation happening. However, her speech belied the fact that she was simply not paying attention to what her eyes told her.

( I seem to have dropped out of reality for a past week or so, i have a feeling large quanitys of alcohol might of been involved.)
Isferg had barely taken 3 steps out of the meeting hall before one of his officers fell into step with him. "sir, are you sure you can trust them?" "trust them?" Isferg asked, amusement clear in his voice. "who said i trusted them? Have you ever heard the proverb 'Keep your friends close, and your enemy's closer."
The officer nodded, it was an old proverb, and most people had heard it at least a few times, even if they didn't understand the wisdom of it. "Well i intend to keep Konar within reach of my mace at all times figuratively speaking. If he stays true to his word, we have a stalwart ally.. If he betrays us, well we needn't march far to bring justice to him." The officer nodded, and smiled. "i didn't think of it like that." He admitted. "But he could well betray us at a very inconvenient time."
"I'm aware of that, which is why my scouts will be watching his every move, and besides its hard to stab me in the back, I'm wearing more then my own bodyweight in metal."
The only thing to do now was wait, and carefully pick a target, something strong enough to require a large force, but not impossible to take should Konar not arrive with aid.
Or more importantly, something close enough to his city that he could quick march back should Konar decide to renege on his deal and strike at what would be a lightly defended target.
Ah yes, and to find someone who knew the makeup and size of Konars force, Isferg seemed to remember a group of naked men coming in from that direction a couple of weeks ago..

Konar sighed. " Yes he does, and no we don't..."he thought about it for a few moments. " We might have to play nice with him for a while, and see what kind of support we can get from him, food, supplies, gold..."

"That seems to be the only plausible option left at the moment." Hiranna gave a just barely audible sniff of disapproval. She saw Konar's logic but was irk by the fact that he didn't tell her what he was doing beforehand.
