"Maybe we ought to travel by the river," Coda suggested. She hadn't done much but caused trouble lately and felt she should help with something.
While watching out for the strange beats, Coda was staring on the ground. She felt bad about loosing one of her stones so early on. With a sigh, she reached into the bag to pull out another, then noticed an inscription on the hem. "If one man should go astray, trust his brother to show the way." Coda gave it an odd stare, then remembered an old legend someone once told her about a hunter who lost all but one of his arrows. His totem told him to shoot his last arrow into the woods and follow it. The arrow landed by the rest of his arrows.
The girl shrugged and lightly tossed the stone a ways away from her, into the grass. Upon following it, she found not one, but two stones laying side by side as if they'd always been that way.
"That's really... neat..." she whispered in awe. With a quick thanks to her totem and to the shaman for his gift, she placed one stone into her sling and started swinging it in slow circles.

The fire was soon nothing more than a glow in the distance as it raced across the plains. The charred ash of the grass was kicked up by the wind that came blowing over the flat land, making it harder and harder to see, until even the glow of the flames was dimmed to nothing by the cloud of ash drifting just above the ground.

Aiyana brushed some of the ash off her face as she glared ruefully at the wall that was supposed to be their path. Being unable to see was not only irritating, but also greatly unsettling for the hunter, who valued being able to use all of her senses.
"I hate to say this..." She said with a frustrated sigh, glancing back at the group. "But we might want to camp here for a little while until visibility clears. The unseen dangers are enough to cause pause..."

Vinanti's head whipped towards the hunter, her hair sticking to the woman's moist face. "Wh-what?" She stammered. "This place is so full of the spirits' hate. How would we be any safer here than in the unknown." The medic's face was pallid and yellow, her strong hands shivering, gripping at the gift from her protector. She was petrified, something wasn't right in this place and she didn't like the idea of letting her guard down to sleep there.

Krenaian inspected the black corpse, being especially careful to not touch it. Apparently he had been lucky and managed to strike it right where parts of its spine connected, thus allowing him to seemingly snap it in two. "Aiyana, you know more of beasts than I do. Would you mind looking at this? It's insides seem shriveled up, and I think there might be something in here beside parts of it, but I don't know these things well enough."

The hunter nodded, walking over and kneeling next to the corpse of the creature. Taking out a knife, she carefully used it to prod the creature, trying to inspect it as closely as she could.
"This... is like nothing I've ever seen before..." She murmured, half to herself and half to the others, turning the creature over as much as she can.
"It's almost beyond recognition of whatever it... used to be..."
