The messenger be d***ed, I just want to get to that light. The thought played over and over in Iro's head until he realized it was one of those strange thoughts again. Wasn't the whole reason of his going to the light to discover what it was? It was taking him longer and longer to identify his strange thoughts. Maybe his new reason for going to the light should be to get it out of his head. He knew that one made no sense the instant he thought it.
With a shake of his head Iro pulled his sight from the light. He looked to Isra, she would probably think him crazy if he told her where he was going. They had only just met anyway. Following her gaze, he settled for looking at the guard, like the rest of the crowd seemed to be doing as well. "I hope so, too."

~Isra nodded. Her smile had long since faded. She wonder just how dangerous the light was. If there was to be a messenger explaining it, it was definantly considered dangerous. 'But afterward....' Isra's thoughts trailed. 'I suppose what I do is based on what is told to us. If it isn't something interesting, I'll head off on my own accord. But if it IS something to concern myself with, I guess...'
Isra smiled. "I'll have to go to it," she declared aloud, not realizing she had.

Thunderstruck, Iro was unsure what to do. He was positive it was the light she was talking about, she had just seen for he first time, but he couldn't sure."Go to what?" he asked, trying to sound only mildly interested. All the time, he had been considering going alone. He wasn't sure he wanted a partner in this though. It would be harder breaking out of town with two people if the guards decided to keep them in. Not only that, he disliked putting others in danger. For any reason. Maybe she could help him though. How though? He didn't even know what he would find. Iro found himself hoping that she hadn't meant what he had thought.

~Isra was startled by the Iro's voice. "Oh, sorry. I was thinking out loud." Isra pointed to the light. "To that, of course. But only if this 'messenger' says what I want to hear. That it is concerning, or dangerous. After all, I did say I live for intersting things." Isra smiled. "And don't pretend you weren't at least considering checking it out for yourself despite whatever we are told."

Iro winced. Boy, did she have him pegged! And she had said she lived for interesting things, but if she didn't call a giant explosion creating a purple light in the sky "concerning or dangerous," what would she? "Actually I was heading there earlier when I was stopped and made to come here." Anger surged through him as he recalled the guards and Iro was forced to visibly calm himself. He really had to get his thoughts under control. "And I wouldn't get your hopes up for this message. He won't say anything that might cause a scare to the people."

~Isra laughed gently. "I suppose you're right." Isra shook her head. "But that won't help them any. No matter how much they try to smooth this incident out, it won't work. People will still suspect something."
Isra smiled. "Well, after I think about it in that sense, I have no choice but to go." She looked at Iro. "But what will you do, Iro?"

"They've stopped me once already. It won't happen twice." Iro said, all confidence. Before he knew what he was doing, Iro's hand reached his sword but he caught himself before he pulled it out of its scabbard. What was wrong with him today? Maybe if he stopped thinking about the light he wouldn't do that anymore. It was worth a shot. "I'm going to... I'm going there. I've been decided for a while."

~Smiling, Isra nodded. "Good choice. Maybe you'll learn how much fun living for the interesting can be." Isra turned back to the guards. "d**n it. What's taking them so long? If they expect to keep us here without a fight, the better hurry their asses up."
Isra's foot had begun to tap impatiently. Upon noticing, she immediatly stopped. Never before had she been so restless, nor so eager to get somewhere. It bothered her immensely. 'If I was in phoenix form, I could leave now' she thought. 'But I have to wait for that d**ned messenger.'

It seemed to be about fifteen minutes when a small group of three soldiers arrived in the town upon horses. They seemed to be in a hurry as the town guards let them through their barracade into the gulchy town where they quickly trotted to the center of the town. Those must be the messangers... Aueron thought, staring intently towards them but as a small, more secluded section away from the crowd of people. As they finally stood still, the guards, still mounted on their steeds to give them heigth over the crowd to speak, the ambience of the townsfolk chatting sharply lowered in volume, and began their message to the town.
"What have you all seen here today?" he shouted, ignighting some of the townsfolk to speak up all at once. "Nay, I'll TELL you what you saw here today. You saw nothing out of the ordinary. The noise you heard was the military testing out a new bomb onboard a vessel off the coast not too far from here, and the damage was done by a freak gust of wind generated from our goddess. AM I CLEAR?"
It seemed the people weren't especially happy about that, and they all started speaking up in either anger or misunderstanding. "Silence!" the messanger yelled, hushing them, "As ALL of you know, failure to uphold the laws of the kingdom, or purposely spreading LIES about it is punishable by death depending on the degree! You all saw NOTHING out here today, and you will speak as so!"
So they want to keep that a secret? It must be something that's either important or embarrising for the Holy Kingdom then... That was the one explanation Aueron could come up with as to why they said what they did. It wasn't an explanation towards what happened, but rather ordering all of us to keep our mouths shut about it. There had to be a reason, there WAS a reason... but what was it?
Aueron turned to look at the beam of light scaling up into the sky again, but as he did... it was gone. It must have faded away from existance while he was distracted, listening to the messangers speaking to the town. Maybe that was a coincidence... maybe it was a trick. No one really knew except for those who knew what the light was in the first place, and no since we were ordered to not speak of it, or else be hanged, (and it was sure that every other town that was within eye-shot of the light got the same kind of message), it didn't seem like there was any possible way for anyone else to know.
Aueron sighed--politics and their secrets always made him sick at his stomach for some reason. He had to get away... picking up his ruck-sack, he began walking out of town, supposedly to the next city along the road where the port was. As for the guards, they began letting small numbers of people through, but still protected the entrances as soon as it set in that the message that was brought was of the utmost seriousness. The townsfolk didn't like it... but they'd have to live with it; at least for now.

Never before had Iro seen such an outright denial of fact. Those idiots were going to have a riot on their hands before long. Blackmail was the only word he could think of for it. The anger he had felt for the guards before had now been multiplied many times. And justified. It did not matter how many he killed now; they were already dead.
Turning back to face the light, he received the shock of the day. The light had vanished. As impossible as it had been for it to have been there in the first place, it was equally impossible for it to have simply vanished. Logic notwithstanding, he set out in the direction the light had been in, not even waiting for Isra. Now more than ever, he had to reach that nonexistent light. And god help any guards who got in his way.

One of the guards watched Iro intently as he made he way to the guard's small baracade at the gate, though they allowed people through now. When the traveler approched, the guard reached out his hand, and placed his palm on the boy's shoulder to stop him before looking over to see if the other guards were looking.
"Hey, kid..." the guard's face was hidden behind his helmet's metal visor, but his voice sounded as though he was twenty-five or so. "I can see that angry look in your eye... you're going to head towards that light that was there, arn't you?" as he spoke, it was obvious he was trying to keep his voice down so the other guards wouldn't hear, "Funny--you honestly think you can get there by yourself?" he went on without letting him get a chance in to reply, "I don't care how much of a hot-shot you think you are kid, unless you're trying to commit suicide, you'd better bring a few friends along--especially ones that can lend a sword or spell in your favor. There's nasty things out there kid... even with at least four of you, it'd be a rough trip--though, any less and it'd be impossible."
After finishing, the guard turned his head towards the others--luckily they were speaking to other townsfolk and hadn't noticed him speaking to the teenager attempting to pass through. The guard looked back down a Iro, and lifted up his visor just enough to show a sincere smile--"Carry on then."

While the guard had his hand on him, it was all Iro could do not to kill him. If he killed one so soon he would never reach the site where the light had been without fighting all of them. The cautions the guard had given him were water off a duck's back. They were overconfident and pompous, used to threats and people cowering before them. Unless they completely surrounded him, Iro thought he could win. As the guard showed his face, Iro took it in in great detail. He would be the first to die if his face ever showed again.
The roads being unfamiliar to him, Iro went cross-country. Roads always twisted and turned to make access to towns and such easier. That also made it easier to get lost if you didn't know exactly where you were going. Cutting through the country would be slower, but at least he would get there.
Iro felt empowered; nothing could stop him.

Kaine cautiously stepped out over the glittering dust of glass shards and walked outside. There were a lot of people in his same situation, twisting, gazing, stumbling over debris in confusion. Silence started to dissolve into hushed murmurs of curses and black magics. The elf crossed his arms, frowning. An almost foreign crease ravaged the smooth skin of his forehead and he frowned. The sense he got turned his gaze towards where the pillar faded into nothingness. All that remained was a dark omen hovering in the air and a cloud of displaced dust. Unaware of the motion, the man gripped at the clothing set over his heart. There was a sinking, burning sensation that lingered. As an experienced scout, such small fluxes in the environment were strong to his senses.
He knew he had to leave that place, to get as far as he could from the source of that shock wave. The man reentered the tavern and, despite his typical behavior, dismissed the advances of the woman he had just helped. He even ignored her offer to help his wounds. Instead, through the sting and the warm blood tapping on his limbs, he gathered his crafting materials, slinging them into a quiver looking device over his shoulder. Kaine had no mount. The man had little more than his soft leather shoes and long legs. Using these tools of locomotion, he started off at a trot, speaking to no one and pushing through the baffled crowds. Alas, his sense of direction was skewed and he headed opposite of where he intended, straight into the light he was fleeing from.
After a span of two hours, the blood loss hit the traveler. He began to limp slower and slower until, finally, he collapsed, panting, to the ground. "N-n-not what... I wanted to have h-happen." He groaned, tipping over to the side that hadn't be pummeled with the pieces of a dirty bar window. He put a hand on his head. It was moist and his face felt hot. He knew he must look pale. "I suppose... A little rest w-won't hurt..." With that, the man closed his eyes, not noticing that his legs were sticking out into a well beaten path.

~Isra grunted. "Fine," she muttered after Iro. "Do whatever you want. Just don't get killed." She knew he hadn't heard her. Whatever. She was too angry at the what the 'messenger' had said. And that the light was now gone. Leaving was now her only option. She waiting about ten minutes, for the area to clear out, then left.
"How dare they say such a thing?" Isra shook her head and began walking in the direction of the light. It wasn't long before she noticed a pair of legs jutting out into the road. "sh**," she cursed then ran over to the man. He was unconcious. She examined him carefully. Other than a few bloody wounds, the back of his head looked a bit swollen.
She immediatly reached into her bag and pulled out a few bandages. As she was about to attempt first aid, the man woke up.

Kaine's hand snapped up from his side and grabbed Isra's wrist. With a gasp, the man sat up, his green eyes wide and alert, prepared to dispatch the "threat." Reality was much better than his imagined scenario. He blinked a bit, the woman's face registering. The elf's lips turned upward into a sly sort of grin. "Well hello there pretty lady." He cooed, releasing her arm. "Sorry for that rude greeting, but if you wanted to take advantage of me, you should have just asked."
