"AUUUGH!" A shout resonated beside the fateful bar, buzzing against an inconspicuous-looking pile of lumber. The wood was freshly cut, the edges splintering in the dry air. Half hidden by the stockpile were a pair of modestly shoed feet.
Kaine was resting against a wall, knife in his mouth and a sneer on his face. Between his knees was a curved peice of wood, shaved of its fraying and smoothed with precision. Also severed clean in half. The dark haired man was insistantly grinding the top half against his lower counterpart, growling. All that work was not to go for naught!
After a good ten minutes of this display, the man slumped over, defeated. He let the failed whittling attempt fall to the ground and with an anguished groan, forcefully stabbed his knife point into one half.
"God d**ned teak..." The elf sighed. "Its too brittle." His voice raised, an angry shout to the skies. "How could anyone expect me to work with this crap!?" His cries were worthless, as he well knew, and he slumped into his own lap with a whine and the gurgle of his stomach. "I'm hungry too."

"...You talk a lot," the near non-emotional voice of a seventeen year old boy said just within ear-shot of the slumped elf. Aueron had a sense of curiousity that was uncontrolable at times, and this was one of such times. Just after he had made his way to his bowl of soup placed on the bar table, an agrovated shout brought him back to the doorway and eventually outside to where the whittler sat, moaning over what seemed to be understood as a 'failed project'. Aueron couldn't help but subconciously study the elf as he waited for him to stop talking to himself--he didn't exactly seem quite as weathy as Aueron was, not that he thought of himself as being part of a rich family either, judging by his simple clothing, and he certainly did talk a whole lot more than he did.
Aueron's eyes continued to stare down to the elf without another word, not careing if he really realized he was there or not, but soon motion took the place of his silence, and the swordsman placed his bowl of soup that he hadn't so much as sipped before starting to walk off again. Although, only about two steps off, he stopped again; "With this sudden change in the weather, you might want to step inside before it cools off." In the moment he stood, a few more stray snowflakes falling from the sky collected in his dark hair and on his cloak, with a single green eye turned to face the elf through its corner. And with that, he took another step, and began on his way again--heading towards the street to cross over to the general store, ruck-sack in hand.

Kaine's ear twitched and a hand immediately came to its aid, expecting to dispel a stray hair or a daring bug from its proximity. The confusing dual stimuli of a voice ringing through his sensitive hearing and the snow melting against his skin. He wasn't entirely sure which he should focus on. The chill was going to become a thing of importance, especially with his meagerly thin clothing. But it was 'rude' or something to ignore a person that was talking to you. He was a gentleman, of sorts, so he decided the latter was a more pressing engagement.
"Hey, kid..." He grunted a bit, getting to his feet, and stretched, holding his arms above his head. "Whaddea think you're doin?" He jutted his thumb towards the bowl. "I'm not about to take someone else's food, you know. Nothin' is free, afterall, and if I cheat you now, someone'll cheat me later." His voice was course, roughened with drink and open air, but his eyes were bright with a carefree charm. The man bent over and refastened his knife to its holding place at his belt.

~Isra glanced calmly at Iro for a moment, hte shrugged. "Suit yourself," she said simply at first, But then, Isra noticed what Iro was staring at so uneasily. She watched, fascinated at first, then startled when she heard the shout. Isra turned her attention to the man who was now leaving the tavern. "Is he mad?" she asked aloud, not really expecting an answer. "Going out into the snow, after it came so quickly?" Shaking her head, she finished her drink and ordered another.

Until Isra mentioned it, Iro had not noticed that snow had slowly began to snow. So much for leaving tonight, he thought. Iro was more used to snow than most but seeing it start so suddenly still unnerved him. "Isn't it supposed to be warm for a few months yet before the snows?" It didn't seem to be snowing too hard to go outside, but the sudden change in temperature had Iro worried. The cold white powder falling from the sky now had his complete attention, the elf gone from his mind altogether.

Aeron slowly lifted his drunken body from the floor, staggering slightly. "Stupid fool.." he muttered with a smile. "He’ll get whats coming to him soon enough!" Then with a dangerously unbalanced turn Aeron twisted his body back toward the bar, head spinning violently. He lost his balance and stumbled forwards, fortunately catching himself with both hands before his forehead hit the wooden bar. After taking a heavy sigh Aeron straightened his body to his full height, eyes closed tightly as his mind tried to clear the thick fluff that seemed to be cloaking his brain. Two heavy, calloused hands gripped the whiskey bottles on the bar. Bringing one up to his mouth so that his teeth could pull out the dry cork. As Aeron was about to take a gulp of the alcohol his eyes spied the elf sitting near the back and suddenly his brain seemed to panic, breath catching in his chest. There was something about his gaze and presence that scared Aeron, as if this man could see all the wrongs of his soul, or wanted to find them. He stood there simply staring at the elf, before quickly pushing away his fear with the helpful taste of the thick, numbing alcohol that rushed down his throat.
He cracked a sly smile; He always did love the taste of whisky. His brain paused for a moment as he tried to remember where he was. The Tavern. He also remembered he had to somehow make his way to the shelter in his drunken condition, without arousing the attention of the numerous guards in the town. He placed himself on one of the crooked stools at the bar, grimacing slightly. This was the perfect location to pass the short time before the arranged meeting time, but Aeron knew if he stayed in the Tavern any longer he wouldn’t make it off the floor anytime soon. With that, he picked himself up slowly and dusted himself down, shouting at the top of his “Goodbye Scum!”. Not the best way to remain unnoticed he thought to himself, and his farewell was met with more than a few glares from the occupants of the building. No sense of humour Aeron thought to himself as he stumbled outside, bursting through the door into the relentless cold outside.
He shivered suddenly, and headed off to the shelter; better to get there early than not at all.

~Isra nodded. "Yeah, from what I understood." Isra thought a moment. There was something strange going on. "You said you were only here looking for work, Iro? How long have you been here?" Isra hoped long enough to be able to tell her a little more about this place. "And...what's with that tower?"

Silence would have been the elf's answer--Aueron figured it would have been sufficent enough for someone that was older than him in the first place; he simply gave him the bowl, whatever he did with it was up to him. Though admittedly between only himself, he was still hungry, but a night and a morning without something to eat wasn't going to kill him, especially now that he was simply going to stay in town for the night to get a pillow under his head and a mattress for once.
Before he left home, his parents took great care in giving him an allowence that would tide him over for a small time at least, it wasn't exactly the biggest sum of money, being that they were simple ranchers, but it was enough to not have to worry about having enough for food or bed. As he intended, he continued on past the cold breeze flowing past the crowd in the street, which was slightly thinner now because of the discomfort towards a small shop that seemed to be privately owned and run by a small family.

Kaine frowned. "Or say nothin' that works..." The man tilted his head, examining the bowl, debating over whether or not to take the food. Tentatively, he stuck a finger in it and promptly stuffed the digit into his mouth. It was removed quickly and he winced.
"This soup tastes like a tree..." The simple elf didn't take into consideration that his sawdust coated hands tainted the flavor. He looked down as his slender middle let out another frightful roar of hunger. "Guess it ain't the worst stuff I've had..." He lifted the bowl to his mouth and tipped his head back, eyes closed, drinking in loud, discourteous gulps. About halfway through the thick quaff he pulled it away with a gasp of air. Panting, he ran his tongue over the corners of his mouth. "Huh it ain't half bad."
He took the bowl back up, downing the rest. Granted a good 20% made its way down his neck and chin. He sighed, satisfied and happy, with a ridiculous grin on his face. The moment of bliss passed all too soon when a lump of snow that had collected on the roof above him, toppled over into his dark hair. Kaine yelped and shook his head, waving his hands wildly over his raven locks, trying to brush away the fluffy culprit. "Awwe hell!" He groaned. "It really IS gettin' cold!"
Employing the swiftness of his race with none of the grace, he collected an armful of lumber and teetered. With his back against the wall, he walked the perimeter of the building before stepping clumsily into the tavern. He looked over his shoulder and maneuvered, backwards, to a table, setting down his load before taking a seat. "This better not last long..."

Still riveted on the sudden turn of the weather,What could make it snow on a warm day like it was?, Iro wasn't listening to the conversation he was contributing to. "I've been here at least two and a half weeks, though I stopped keeping track after ten days. I've not been able to find even the smallest job since then either."
Iro abruptly realized that his stay had not been the only thing Isra had asked about. Before doing anything else, he made himself take notice of everything around him, just the way he always did right before he tried to focus on something. The snow covered elf walking into the tavern. The barmaid's cheerful conversation with the patrons. Smells, sights, and sounds. When he thought he had it all he pushed it all out of his mind, coming to focus on Isra and their conversation.
Feeling the least bit refreshed from his mental exercise, he asked, "Sorry, I was a bit distracted. What about a tower?

~Lyra pointed out the door. "You know, the tower? I overheard a few people talking about it, not long after it started snowing...something about it being breezy?" Isra realized that Iro probably didn't hear anything about it. "Um, nevermind. Forget I said anything about it." She looked back at the enntrance, seeing a man stumble in through the door. He sat a few tables away, seeming a bit annoyed. "This town is ful of interesting people, isn't it?" Isra thought aloud with a slight giggle.

"Sure seems that way. I don't think any of them live here though. How were snow, a breeze and a tower connected? Isra seemed to have an unexpected comment for everything. "Most of them seem to be travelers, not unlike you and myself I might add."

~Isra blinked in surprise. "Hmm...yes, I suppose they are." She took a small sip of her drink. "But I wonder what it is they are traveling for? Are they searching for something, as you search for work? Or are they simply bored?" Isra smiled. "Guess it doesn't matter. I don't know them."
Isra thought a moment. "So, where are you heading next? Anywhere in particular?"

Searching for something? Bored? Iro had always assumed that people traveled because they liked it or because circumstance forced them to it. That was what happened to him after all. Iro idly wondered how drunk Isra was. "Whichever village I come to next. I don't really have a plan. If I actually do get a job in this town I'll go where the job takes me." Mulling it over for a second, Iro decided that was an accurate description. He often felt as though he was being yanked from place to place rather than going of his own free will. Any plans he actually tried to make always ended up evaporating, paling in comparison to the unforeseeable coincidences. "What about you? Where are you headed?"

~Isra shrugged. "No idea. Guess wherever I feel like going." She finished off her drink and pushed the glass to the center off the table, away from her. "Not really too concerned about it at the moment." She closed her eyes and thought. Were would she go next? "I've got enough money to last me awhile...I can thank my parents for that one...so work isn't necessary." She opened her eyes. "I guess I'll leave here tomorrow, unless something interesting happens. After that, I don't really know."
