Pausing on a lower branch, Zyphan nodded a quick hello to Lucifel. "I'm Zyphan. Not angel, not demon...." She paused, her eyesight going out of focus for half a second. "I guess I'm not really anything. Just neutral."
She looked off to the sun, and realized they should probably find shelter or something before it got completely dark. "Um...do you guys want to find someplace to sleep? I'm fine in a tree, but if you aren't comfy in the open or even in a tree, then..." The phoenix shrugged. "Well, I don't really care. After you, though."
After that little splurdge, she thought it a bit foolish, and hopped up higher into the tree before trailing the two, jumping/ flying from one branch to another.

Gaia looked at Zyphan in wonder again as she moved from tree to tree. Snapping out of the second daze, she looked down the river's path. The light of the river was now the only light nearby, but a couple miles off the lights of a town, most of which were bottled light from the river, came into view. The night sky became its usual crimson mist that seemed to press down on all life, and the wastelands farther from the river seemed to grow more ominous. A flicker of dark purple light skipped through the air, followed shortly by many more flickers of crimson and dark blues and purples. A group of demons was flying far overhead.
Speaking to nobody in particular, Gaia said "I sure hope they don't see us down here. With that many of them they probably won't be afraid to fight in the light. I don't suppose either of you are good with magic are you?"

"Well....I can warp water and ice, but that's about it. I can use a sword, if that's any help!!" Zyphan piped up, smiling brightly.

Lucifel glnaced in the direction that Gaia was talking about. She smiled and looked back at Zyphan and her sword comment caused her to laugh out."Let me repeat myself, I am Lucifel an Angel. Do you think I can do magick? Why dont you just tell me what you want me to do with them and I will," as she spoke these words she lifted her right hand up in the direction of this topic."I wont kill them but I can cloak us for a short time, make them appear somewhere away from us or....blow them up into tiny little dust specks. As and you shall reaceive."

"What if one of them is related to Lasan?! You can't just blow up demons!" Gaia waved her arms frantically to emphasize her point. "What is it with some of you non humans? Always wanting to blow up that which isn't like yourself... geez." She crossed her arms and spun around, her back facing Lucifel. "Hmph... I guess if you can cloak us that's be best." Still angry, she muttered something under her breath that sounded like an invocation. She pointed up towards the demons and looked back to Lucifel. "So, unless you want to get the attention of..." Her voice was cut off as a bolt of white energy launched from her hand, rocketing towards the demons. It erupted midway into a shower of sparks. Anyone familiar with even the most basic of holy magic knew that it was a cloaking spell, and a very powerful one at that. "What...how...when..." she stammered. "I don't know any magic..." Her eyes were wide with disbelief.

Zyphan paused in mid leap as the bolt went up, and just barely managed to catch herself on a nearby branch, hanging by her hands. "Wow....what was that thing? A pretty firework?"

Lucifel looked at Gaia and grabbed her hands looking at them turning them over looking from palm to the back of her hand."Where did Lasan FIND you?" Luficel resumed walking."I can smell my own we all can. You dont know how to survive in these times. Now that this stupid relic was found...." Lucifel grunted looking over their path.

Gaia looked more than a little shaken by the spell that had erupted from her hands. "Well... technically it was Amir that found me. He was flying near an old abandoned building and saw me sitting there. I don't remember it myself, but I do remember seeing his glowing white wings. He was already living with Lasan though...they've been together for a long time." She kept walking as she spoke. They needed to get to a town before the swarm came. They were only a mile off now, if that.
Looking off to the east, the direction she had come from, she squinted. Her eyes then went wide. "I think we should hurry..." she said, pointing at the black cloud moving through the crimson mist of the night sky. The swarm had come, as it always did at the end of every month.
((I'm leaving the swarm unspecified for now... go ahead and make stuff up if you'd like ^^))

At the edge of the river, a looming figure stood. A face was the only feature readily recognizable, the rest of the shadow obscured by shapeless folds of cloth tumbling over what could be assumed to be shoulders. Unprotected the man stood with his face towards the sky, the humming beat of demons' wings lulling him, so it appeared.
With a crack the figure fell to the river's bank and, tugging off long, worn gloves from his hands, thrust his arms towards the immaterial contents of the flow. A vertical line seemed to be made with the pale flesh of his neck and chin as the man threw his head backwards with a snap, his mouth agape and his eyes shut tight in a silent scream.
Limp, the appendages were drawn back to the dirt floor, the poor tortured man slumped over, panting. He pulled the gloves back over his arms, wincing as if he were trying to fit his hands into fire.
"Closer and closer... I'll be nothing at all if this continues." He shuddered a bit, noting the flickering remnants of candlelight blinking from the nearby village. "Nothing at all." His voice was low and soft, but rough and cracked with disuse, the wind carrying the imperfections beyond his comfort zone.

Moving as quickly as she could, Gaia half jogged and half ran towards the town. Seeing a shadowy figure ahead, she stopped, almost tripping on a stray root from a nearby tree. Yelling out across the river of light as best she could, her faint voice floated over just loud enough to be heard by the strange man kneeling on the ground. "Hey! Are you okay? The swarm's coming! Run for the town!" She then took off again for the town, looking over her shoulder to see if the person had gotten up. The town's main gate was only a couple hundred feet away now, but the swarm wasn't much farther.

Excine looked up towards the voice, raising his eyes instead of his chin. The sound of words struck a chord within him of both panic and delight. His thin lips parted, but he opted not to speak. Instead the situation came down upon his shoulders. He stood, albeit with some difficulty, his handsome features obscured by a green-grey-blue-brown hood that rested atop his head. Without a warning, the giant lept over the river. The landing wasn't quite so good and was audible by the sickening screech of lubricated metal. With a wish of cloth, he encircled the young mage with his arm and cloak, pulling her beneath and beside him at once. "Fool..." He mumbled. "They always send scouts ahead. You dont have time to get to the city right now."

Gaia started to scream, but a memory of Lasan flashed in her mind and held the scream back. The man was obviously a demon, but there was something different about him, just as there was something different about Lasan. Smacking her foot on a rock, she almost fell again and was snapped out of her trip down memory lane. Then she saw it. A line of five insect-like humanoids between them and the last few feet to town. "Lucifel! I take it back for now...blast 'em!" she screamed.

Lucifel turned with ease facing the swarm she simple held out her right hand and pure light engery shot from her hand and fanned out hitting the swarm."I would suggest running really fast Gaia." She then lifted her left hand out shooting the same fanned out energy beam at the swarm. The blast covered nearly all of the swarm. Luficel then turned her attention towards this male like demon. " The way I see it you've got one option, let the kid go, or be blown to bits. Dont even think that kid will stop me from doing it." She powered up quickly she clapped her hands together infront of her sending a blade like power into the chest of the male knocking him back. Luficel walked towards them close and grabbed Gaia by the arm and picked her up setting her behind her. She took of her jacket and it fell upon Gaia. Lucifel's wings spread wide. "Try me demon...." her hands sparked with energy.

Excine tumbled back, a somersault in reverse, stabilizing himself onto his hands and knees. His head was bowed and he raised a hand to press to his chest, wincing with a grunt as he did so. The man swallowed hard, the supporting hand gripping the dirt with what seemed to be all his might. "I've done nothing..." He spoke quietly, never moving, not even raising his head. A dim but definite ringing, metal on his body reverberating with his trembles. "Before you so recklessly attack, identify your proper enemy." While his words were disdainful in their context, Excine's soft voice made it almost pitiful. He sounded less like a large humanoid demon than a frightened, abused child.

Gaia shrugged off Lucifel's grip and jumped between Lucifel and Excine. Her thin frame wasn't much of an obstacle, but she held out her arms to make a barrier none the less. "What did we talk about earlier Lucifel? I told you not to recklessly attack demons! Besides, he's the one that let me know those scouts were in front of us. Now let's go!" She turned around to help Excine up, then bolted for the gate, making it through just as they townsfolk began to shut it.
