I've been working with this idea for a while now en solo, namely in a storytelling format. Haven't tried to formulate it into RP format, but I can try :3
Five scores of a generation past, in the times of legends and myths, the Northern lands of K'nartel were embroiled in a holy war, the war between the gods of Halmarce, the heavens, and the Devil hoard in Mu'dulhx; Ragnarok, Armageddon... whatever name a civilization gave it, this was to be the war to end all wars. The gods had just been granted a great victory when, abruptly, Ragnarok ended... in their destruction. For an unknown enemy, presumed to be the Devil's doing, entered, sweeping over the army of the gods like a tidal wave, killing many and leaving few behind. Those that were would soon be picked off by Demons, the lowest forms of devil-form...
Those back in Halmarce would soon share the fate of their fallen brothers and sisters, as the Unknown (which they would come to be called) swept over them with the same fierceness and unyielding rage that the soldiers had seen. Many, if not all, were lost in the rage, including the All-Father, Odin. And as soon as they had come, the Unknown vanished, not to be heard from again.
As for those who were caught in-between the battles, those mortal beings known as the Hume, were soon set upon by the demons. Until then, the gods had protected them; with that obstacle, removed, the demons had little resistance. Many were enslaved, some were killed, and it seemed that all hope was lost...
However, one hope remained. The city of Blackshill (pron. blaak-sheel) still stood, even against the demonic advancements. It was here that the Hume made their last stand; the city was protected by a divine shield, and although it demanded a sacrifice every ten years, the shield protected the thousands within its walls. No one knew why this city alone was protected, but it alone stood. For the next four millennia, it stood as the pinnacle of the Huem's survival, mocking the Devil hoard to no end.
As technology advanced and the threat of invasion lessened, the Hume became bolder and more numerous, eventually exploring the grounds which were lost in that war so long ago. The technologies they found there became the basis for their society, and as they came to understand and replicate that which the gods had; incorperating, at times, their very existence into the bodies of young Hume, creating warriors with capabilities far beyond that of others without such operations.
The female legions, especially, were prone to drastic physiological mutations, becoming stronger and faster in body and mind than even some of their male brethren. These girls came to be known as Valkyries. Although when compared to their ancient counterparts, they were still much weaker overall, they were still a giant leap forward from the other legions; as time progressed, they showed this through their superb kill-to-loss ratio, which was higher than any other division yet seen.
The Hume continued their advancements almost unabated, and many names passed through their history books. Artifacts (or even body parts) of the gods became as highly prized as VIPs, and were guarded extensively. Soon, however, after four thousand years, one Hume was about to unearth something that would change everything...
or, rather... someone...
That's pretty much the synopsis of the plotline I made up... lengthy, but should put up enough of a background to be viable, should this ever come to see light as an RP... not that I expect it, but more as an example of what I like ._.
questions? comments? death threats?
