"There was an explosion in the subway," Marcus told Dack. "From what the others say you caused it, but I wasn't in there with you so I don't know that for sure. The survival -- or lack thereof -- of Rogue and Gambit couldn't be verified... we had wounded, so we had to get out of there fast." He rummaged around in a drawer, found a bottle of pills and handed them to the castle's newest guest. "Here, these'll help with the dizziness. You might have a concussion, so let me know if you experience any other symptoms." -------------------------------------------------------------
Jake sent Shroud off to see to the dinner arrangements... as he turned to leave, Nightshade rounded the corner and slammed right into him. Without missing a beat, she smirked and told him, "Sorry. Didn't see you there."
Jake laughed as he watched Shroud's footprints turn the corner and head off toward the kitchen. "Nightshade, this is Druid," he said, introducing the girl. "And you remember Norton."
Nightshade nodded at Norton, then looked down -- she was taller than Jake -- and smiled at the younger woman. "Let's find you something nice to wear," she said in a kind, slightly Boston-accented voice. "Some of the mutants who stayed here and left their clothes behind are about your size. Some of the outfits are wicked awesome." Occasionally, the Castle didn't work out as the sanctuary it was supposed to be for whatever reason, and a guest would have to leave in a hurry. Most of the time, they didn't bother to return and collect their belongings.

*don't beat me for some minor playing-someone-else's-character in this >.< EDIT: and I meant "head", not "hand" twice x-x blimeh!*
For a moment, she clung to Norton (or, more accurately, Norton's leg), whining quietly and shaking slightly, until she felt the lady's hand scratching her on the head. It seemed that everyone was rather complacent, and she didn't feel any nerves stand on end, so Druid let go of Norton and crawled on over to the lady.
At first, she just sat there for a minute or so. But soon, she laid her head against her leg, looking up at her. Several more vines creped across her body, two of them creeping up on either side of her face, almost perfectly framing her sparkling green eyes. She was curious as usual, as this was another person who looked somewhat like her in the curves and all, but was obviously not leafy like her. She wondered if she was the only person in this place, or the world for that matter, who had green skin...

He smiled and let Druid decide about others rather than him telling her who to trust and who to avoid. He looked up at Nightshade and spoke, "She... is a bit lost...", yeah, that was the right word, he thought, "Go slow with her. If you got any problems, give me a shout ok?", he smiled. He then turned to Jake and said, "Lets meet the great inventor, shall we? Oh, and might be a good if you could give me a communicator too..."

Jake nodded. "We'll get you hooked up with one, they're conveniently located where we're going. I'll have one sent up for Druid too... she deserves to be in the loop, and might be able to contribute something if there's cause to discuss tactics."
Nightshade nodded at Norton, then turned her attention to Druid. "I bet you've got some interesting abilities," she said in as warm and friendly a voice as a Bostonian can manage. "Do those vines just come whenever they want to, or can you control them?"

As if right on cue, they curled up her arm as she grasped lightly to the lady's pants, crawling up onto them; Druid looked down as a low, gravelly purring emanated from her throat. The vines stopped half-way up her thigh, then retreated just as soon as they had come. She was exploring the extent of her abilities, now that she was comfortable around these people; vines shot out from under her, what had been her feet now dissolving, becoming a root-like mess of vines there on the floor. Even under her shirt there was movement, Druid twisting and shaping her body as she saw fit, becoming what she wanted herself to be. Letting go for knowing that she would most likely scare the lady with what she was doing and didn't want to hurt her somehow, the girl's eyes closed, deep in concentration as what clothes she had were torn from her, everything that she had been melting away into the green mass that was molding, growing taller now by the second...
And then, rather abruptly, she reached her current limits; the limbs twisting from her form quivered, straining to grow further before being rudely pulled in, her form becoming what it had before... Once the dust settled, she was herself, albeit 'naked', as patterns of bark on her body covered the most revealing parts. Sighing, she looked around, then slunk back a bit. For sure, they would realize what kind of freak she was and wish no longer to be with her, which was a shame, but better to do so now than later, when the place was not so favorable to have such a display take place. A single tear formed in her left eye, trickling almost invisibly down her face as she reflected upon the fact that even she didn't know what she was...

Dack looked at Marcus. This guy seemed alright and he seemed to be giving it to him straight.
"Marcus, thanks," he said as he took the pills and spoke again,"Do you have someone in charge, are there others here?"

"The guy that brought you in -- Jake -- is in charge," Marcus told Dack. "I'm the medic, and we also have a tracker, a sniper, an engineer and a butler here in the castle. Not to mention a couple of other people that were at the subway with you when the X-Men caught up to you. What'd you do to piss them off, anyway?" He wasn't trying to be nosy, just making conversation. He hoped that Dack would see it that way. ---------------------------------------------------
Nightshade looked on as Druid went through a series of changes. She got the impression that the younger woman might be showing off for her, and she smiled encouragingly. Then, the transformation suddenly stopped, and the girl returned to normal. A tear ran down her cheek, which Nightshade gently wiped away with her index finger. "There's no need to cry," she said. "We're gonna teach you how to control your abilities a bit better, if we can. Your skills might be a bit out of our usual league once you've developed them a bit, though." She wasn't sure how powerful the girl might be, but the show she had put on in the hallway just now suggested she was at least a Class 3 or 4 mutant... in other words, extremely powerful.
She paused in front of a door, nodded, and opened it. "Here you go," she said. "This room's our lost and found... everything that anyone's ever left behind in the castle is in here. Check out those wardrobes over there and see if you can find some clothes you like." Nightshade opened a chest of drawers and started looking through it, trying to find something in Druid's size. "And don't worry about germs either... we keep everything in here washed in case a guest needs to wear it."

Druid followed faithfully behind, content with the fact that it seemed no one was pushing her away, and as soon as the door was opened for her, she began sniffing around. The huge boxy thing in front of her had lots of cloth items in it, but she let the lady play around in it first while she watched. There were other things in the room for her to look at, several of them glowing. Attracted like a moth to the flame, she crawled over, knocking a few stray hairs from her face as she glanced over several of them.
There was a noisy box with dials and a thick wire sticking out the top of it over in the corner which attracted most of her attention, her curiosity causing her to reach out and touch it. She nearly jumped when the volume went way up, and quickly pressed something else, upon which static filled her ears. One more press, and all the noise abruptly went away. Rushing behind the lady, Druid whined profusely, irritated and scared all at once, shaking in fright and confusion. For all she knew, it was some sort of sonic device meant for torture...

Nightshade looked at what Druid had been playing with and said, "It's okay, it's just a radio. Here, let me find a station for you. Do you have a certain kind of music you want to listen to?" She turned the dial to a classics station while she waited for the girl to answer (OOC: She doesn't know yet that Druid's not that great at talking, she thinks she's just shy), and an Aly & AJ song came on.
(OOC: Aly & AJ are a pair of teenage girls that sing, for those who don't know. They're pretty good actually, but they're mostly only taken seriously by people aged 10-15. I figure in this timeframe they'll be in their 50s or 60s, and will have a more adult fan following.)

*guess i should keep going?...*
She cocked her head, one of her ears flicking irritably. The lady spoke too fast for her to understand, but she at least caught one word out of it all. "Ray-de-ho" she quietly repeated, still not sure what any of this was supposed to mean. All she knew was that she wanted to avoid it at all costs for now. It seemed that the lady wasn't a bit afraid of the device, but then again she could have been the one to rig it so that Druid wouldn't touch it.
Abruptly, the thing spazzed, changing first to a rap station, then to heavy metal, then finally to classical. Of course, she knew nothing of genres; the first two scared the bejesus out of her, and it wasn't until the thing settled upon a Mozart symphony that she peeked out from behind the dresser, where she'd hidden from it. At first, she surmised that it was trying to trick her again, but when it didn't move from that 'station', Druid cautiously came out of hiding, intrigued by the soothing melodies that were coming from the device. Wrapping her arms around the lady's leg again, she let her head rest lightly against it, slowly drifting off finally all that could be heard of her usual assortment of whines and cries was a soft snoring...

(Sorry. Been busy lately. ) Jake and Norton arrived at their underground destination, deep in the bowels of the castle. The technopath turned out to be taller and broader-shouldered than one might expect from an individual who had been described as rather nerdy, but he was wearing coke-bottle glasses. "Norton here needs hooked up with a communicator," Jake said, and Apparatus tossed him one. He remembered he needed one for Druid too, and said so. He handed Norton one of the communicators, and showed him how to put it on. He kept the other so he could give it to the girl later. "I understand you've got some questions about the privacy dish," Apparatus said, leaning against a stack of sheet metal in a stance that, if one watched enough Mickey Rourke movies, would seem familiar. His high-pitched voice made the tough-guy stance more comical than threatening, however. "What do ya wanna know?" the technopath asked Norton. ------------------------------------------------------- Nightshade smiled, but somehow resisted the urge to laugh. "It's okay," she told the frightened girl. "It's just music. It's not supposed to do that, though." She frowned at the radio as it switched first to a rap station, then to heavy metal. As it switched to a classical station, she extended one of her long legs and gave it a kick, and it stopped flipping through channels and remained there. Good, old-fashioned percussive maintenance always seemed to work, though Apparatus would have had a cow if he had witnessed her brutal treatment of a perfectly innocent mechanical device. Druid seemed to like this song anyway, so Nightshade reflected that the radio being stuck on this station might be a good thing. Before long, the girl appeared to be asleep. Nightshade continued her search for clothes, found some items that appeared to be in Druid's size range, and folded them so she could pick and choose what she wanted when she woke up.

He nodded towards the man and looked around where they were standing. There was equipment lying everywhere, a lot of which he didn't recognize. The man was obviously heavily involved in his work and if he had to guess, didn't like others asking him annoying questions. "I will keep this short...", he started saying as he installed the communicator on his person.
He raised up his arm which quickly became blur and after a few seconds, when he had estimated the resonating frequency of some of the equipment here, the metal pieces lying around began to resonate. He knew how painful that could be to the ears so he stopped after a couple of seconds. "I am more interested in a delivery system for this because I think I can transmit these sonic waves back to Cerebro at the right frequency to disable it and its user... if I had someone who could build a delivery system. From what I saw before, you already have a part of it, all we need is something to feed this into the dishes. I think I can produce a wave strong enough..."

Apparatus got an enthusiastic grin on his face, then said, "Dude, that's awesome. Yeah, I can help you out, I think. I've got all kinds of parts here, there's gotta be something..." He closed his eyes for a moment, turning in a circle on the spot, and nodded. "Yep. I've got what you need here. I'll need to feed some wires up to that dish, which will require some climbing..."
"I'll get Fulcrum or Nightshade to do it," Jake interjected. "They're our best climbers." He didn't want Apparatus getting hurt trying to scale the topmost tower of the castle. He tapped his communicator... now Norton could hear what he said into it. "We need someone to help Apparatus with a new project on top of the castle. We think we've figured out a way to enhance the privacy dish so it can be used as an offensive weapon."
A new, unfamiliar voice crackled over Jake and Norton's headsets. It was a deep male voice, the voice that high-school nerds everywhere fear because it usually signifies the presence of a jock. "I'll take care of it," the speaker said. "My sister's busy right now with the new girl."
Jake nodded, thanked the speaker -- whose name was apparently Fulcrum -- for volunteering, and said, "Let's get up to the tower and see if we can help. You might need to oversee what they're doing and make sure the delivery system will work anyway, Norton."

When the music stopped a few minutes later, Druid awoke once more, a stiff and stuffy voice replacing the beautiful melody that she'd fallen asleep to. Stretching, she found some clothes folded up next to her, and began sifting through them, already onto the idea that they were for her. It didn't take her long to get picky, as some of them were a bit too wacky for her tastes; what she did finally settle upon was a small, frilly dress that hung down a bit past the knees, with thin, almost invisible, straps hanging over her shoulders. When she tried it on, at first she found the chest to be a bit tight, much to her surprise, until she remembered the trick that she'd done not long before. Concentrating, she found she could shrink her chest until it fit perfectly, but that extra space had to move somewhere, so she simply moved it to her limbs, feeling them get just a tad bit longer.
Unfortunately, the dress was also black, which clashed with all the greenery on her, but it couldn't be helped much. She wondered who this had belonged to before her, as she didn't think that this place harbored kids too often. Maybe it was that nice lady's at some point? That didn't seem too likely, but then again she didn't know much about the people here. By now, the device had gone through a dozen voices, talking about things from grounded transportation to advertising campaigns to soap. Finally, the stuffy voice returned for a moment, barked off a few lines, then some more music came on.
For a few moments, Druid thought she was going to fall asleep again, but suddenly a loud voice burst forth verily rudely in a weird tongue, scaring her so much that she leapt atop the dresser, screeching in fright. One of the vines separated from her body, guided by her unconscious thoughts, and slapped a large red button atop the device separate from the others. She secretly hoped that the horrid thing self-destructed after what it had done to her; instead, however, the 'Ray-de-ho' simply fell silent, albeit falling on its side as well from the force of the whacking.
Once she was sure it was quiet again, Druid slid down, curling up on the pile of clothes as she patiently waited to see what the lady would do. She'd surmised quickly after her trek through this fortress-like place that wandering aimlessly was a bad idea. Besides that, she had taken a liking to her, and wanted to be near the lady again, if only because the warmth from her body was the most attractive feature to Druid...
