James walked through the halls of the old building. What could only be dust caked the ground and was spread across the rooms and furniture he passed. The hospital hadn't been changed since the day he left. He could still hear the doctors conversing about the abnormal situation concerning the eight patients. Each one was pale with blank, white eyes, and speaking in what sounded like cursing under their breath. The images haunted his mind more and more. Fifteen years had past since then, and age hit james now more than ever. The rooms were calm, but dust was kicked up in the room at the end of the hall. James dashed down, praying for someone he knew. Someone he could tell.

Helen had just sat down on the end of a hospital bed sending dust everywhere, filling her nose and mouth. She coughed and spluttered until she could breath again, taking deep breaths through her sleeve. Her visit to the abandoned hospital had been so far unsuccessful. No one was here. Everything was empty, left to the passing of time to deal with, and as she now realised covered with a large amount of thick grey dust. Helen watched the large particles floating through the air before her attention was caught by the sound of someone running. Immediately Helen leaped to her feet, panicking about who it could be in this run-down derelict building. Not having much time Helen pressed herself against the wall to the left of the door, waiting for the stranger to arrive.

The rush of opportunity faded and the shine in James' eyes was no more. He did not see anyone in the room, and as he turned to the door, he leapt back in fear and saw someone standing against the wall. Still disappointed, but now cautious, he stood his ground, scanning her figure for weapons or anything she could use to assault him with. "What are you doing here? This place is condemned! Rotwood and rats, the whole thing could fall in an instant!"

Helen's heat skipped a beat as her breath caught momentarily in her throat. He had seen her. Slowly she turned to face the stranger, realising she would look pretty stupid still pressed up against the wall after already being spotted. She noticed his eyes shifting over her, and quickly pulled the soft leather trench coat around herself. Hiding the long dagger at the left hand side of her belt as well as the blood splattered clothes she was wearing. If anyone would have seen Helen walking down in broad daylight, from the look of her clothes it would seem that she had murdered many people and then dumped them in a muddy trench. Her dark green shirt was stained with blood all the way from her right shoulder to a large band of red blood at the base, along with smears of dark brown mud, one of which looking faintly like a handprint. On her Dark blue jeans there was even more mud and dirt, reaching over her knees, splatters of blood appearing in random sections. "I'm here because I'm looking for something and I don't need you to tell me of the dangers. But if it is so dangerous why are you here?" Helen said angrily, frowning her dark blue eyes at the stranger. And yet she still could keep herself from curiosity, cautiously she flicked her eyes down to survey his clothes before returning her angry gaze back to the man's face.

James, pulled of his coat, and draped it over his arm. His black dress shirt and pants covered him entirely, and his hands were gloved. His long, grey hair was neatly held back in a pony tail, and the wrinkles on his face defined his age and attitude. He was somber, yet did not deal with things that bothered him patiently. He pointed a finger at the girl, and said in a very parental tone."Whether or not you know what is here, it's not something you can deal with. I own this building, and have for ten miserable years. You need to leave, so I can tear it down!" He stood up, shook the dust off of his pants, and motioned the girl to exit the room.

"I told you I'm looking for something." Helen growled eyes narrowing. Then suddenly taken back she tilted her body back slightly to get a better look. "The children roaming around this place told me to watch out for you, old man. But personally I don't care whether you own all of this land; I'm not leaving until I've done what I need to. So if I were you, I'd move out of my way." Helen's tone was low and menacing, eyes turning almost black. She wasn't one to threaten people but lately her situation had called for drastic action, and without waiting for a response she started forward to try and shove past the stranger into the hall.

James quickly drew a handgun, Knocked the girl to he floor, pushed his hand hard into her stomach and jammed the gun at her chest. In a clam, slow voice, James began to speak. "Leave. Do not return. They are not children, and they have lived here longer than I have known this place existed." Suddenly, a child walked through the door, and James released the girl. PLacing the gun to the child's head, it's eyes began to change from brown to purple. "sh**, run!" James was bashed into the ceiling and then to the floor, but not before he fired his gun. The child was still standing, and where the bullet hole had gone through slowly sealed up, like molding clay. The child's eyes went from purple to red, and he stared down the girl.

Helen froze, the resistance hadn't been expected from one so old and she was now struggling for breath as it had been roughly forced from her lungs. Coughing she raised her body to witness what was happening. But as she watched her eyes widened in shock as the man was tossed up then down like a rag doll. Quickly, without needing to be told tiwce Helen scrambled back wards, using her feet to push against the ground as she sought to gain some distance from the strange child. Swiftly standing her eyes hurriedly scanned the room for anything that could be used as a weapon, panic on her face as her fate seemed lost in the small hospital room. The only things occupying the area were a dusty bed and bedside table, nothing good enough to attack the child. But even if she had, from what good the bullet had done it looked as if nothing could stop this 'Thing'. Seeing her only escape was a single pane window about 3foot tall and 2foot long starting from waist height leading into the next room Helen ran forward. Deciding at the last moment through fear of not breaking the glass to use the side of her slight body to smash the window, leaping into an awkward shoulder-barge towards it. The glass shattered as her full weight was thrown into it and her body fell gracelessly through, leaving her legs in the air, side of her face pressed hard against the floor, neck bent at a painful angle.

James lifted his bashed body from the floor. The child moved to the window, heading for the girl. From within his jacket, James extracted an ivory bone dagger, and jammed it into the back of the child. Silence. THEN an explosion of white light beamed from the wound and the child began to scream deeper and deeper until the sound shook the earth and the foundation of the building crumbled. The support beams fell down and nearly crushed James. The torrent of light around the child formed into and orb, larger than anything ever seen, and then it receded into the blade. The bone blade sucked all of the light in, and the child's scream gained pitch again, until it became ear shattering, and the windows in every building for a mile broke instantly. The child was black, and stone like, with what was a greenish sweat-like ooze on the outside of him. The dagger fell back into James hand as he stood up from the rubble. The girl looked as if she had passed out, and must have not seen anything, but she now moved to the building only to see it was no more.

Helen awoke, her head throbbing, blood trickling down from a number of cuts to her face and arm as she sat up right. Still dazed she place her hand on her forehead, scrunching her eyes close tight to try clear away the pounding inside her skull and the faint feeling of wanting to vomit. Slowly Helen rose to her feet, all she could remember was the sound of screaming and the walls collapsing around her. Now as she looked upon the hospital only rubble was left. "No!” She shouted, and then turned her head to the man, "What the hell did you do? The...I came all that way...and it's all gone!" She dropped her knees devastated, glass breaking under her weight. Then after a few moments she rose again, simply muttering about finding what she came for as Helen strode purposefully past the man, her eyes trying to pierce through the ruins around her.

James turned to face the girl. He held the thin white dagger firmly in his hand and pointed the tip of the blade at her nose. "Anything you have 'lost' probably didn't need to belong to anyone in the first place. So, unless a family momento was in there somewhere, and if it was I'm sorry, you can forget it." James dug into the dirt to pick up a large red stone, much like a ruby. He stabbed the dagger into the stone, which bled like a heart would if you stabbed it. The blade slowly turned black, and then retracted from the stone. The stone was now grey, and turned to dust. James walked a few steps forward, as if the girl wasn't even there. He seemed possessed now, but not by spirits, but his own will. He raised the blade above his head, and jammed it into his chest. The ebony handle slowly changed back to ivory, and the hair on James' head went from grey to pure white. His skin was paler than before, and his body grew a little, and was barely noticable. He removed the blade, tucked it into his coat, and walked slowly away, as if waiting for something more to happen.

Helen was shocked and staggered forward to try and stop the man as he stabbed the dagger into his own heart, then reeled back, tripping on some debris. The strangers whole physical appearance was changing and he seemed to be in no pain at all even though the blade was completely submerged in the folds of his own flesh. "What, what are you?" Helen asked, cautiously getting to her feet, keeping her distance from the man. When he started to walk away a look of inner conflict and fear seemed to cross the girls face and with a muttered curse she began racing after him over the broken bits of wall and hospital furniture. "Wait!" She called after him. It was rare Helen accompanied anyone, even less if she was the one following them, but this stranger seemed able to fend off the strange child-like creatures like the one before which she certainly could not. Her own blade was made of iron and although had helped her in may conflicts, it seemed it wouldn't do much here against powers she did not understand. “What the hell was that back there?” Helen asked as she came closer to the man, slowing down her pace so as to still keep a safe distance from him.

He turned slowly. His eyes were somewhat hopeful, but mostly glazed over with a tired wanting. James approached the girl, his hair now long and relieved of the ponytai it was once in. His wrinkled face was smoother and his eye color was a deep hazel. He stared her down for a few seconds, finding the right way to begin. "Death is an interesting thing. We all die, eventually, and there is near nothing we can trade to avoid it. Those were not children. They were minion bodies. Weak-minded indiviuals who wish to not die as they lay bleeding or suffering from disease or old age will reach out into thbe pitch black darkness behind their eyes to avoid the light that only promises death, and by doing this they are returned to life as slaves, mindless and their souls hanging on a string loosely tied to their abominable rotting bodies. If you want to learn, I can teach you. I need an apprentice since my master... finished his service. Remember three things if you follow me; The dead are dead, the living are dead and the dead are living." As James finished his explination, he pulled his hair back into the pony tail, put on his jacket and placed anice pair of white sunglasses on his face. He began to walk away casually to a black car. "Come!" He yelled behind him. "Or do you want the police to see the blood un der your jacket?"

Helen stared after him dumbly. Her expressions had varied throughout his speech ranging from shock and fear at hearing of what the "children" actually were to complete and utter confusion at his list of things to remember. Her usually active and quick mind was now running as if she were half asleep, not being able to fully put all the pieces together into one fully operational and understandable picture in her now baffled mind. Helen blinked a few times, and then all at once seemed to come back to the present. "How many more slaves are there out there? What the hell do you mean the dead are living and the living are the dead? Why should I be your apprentice? And what happened to your old master?" All this time she was stumbling after the man, expressing her perplexity and want for answers with her over exaggerated arm movements, as she moved them in a different direction with each question she asked. "And how the heck did you just get younger?!" Helen asked finally, one eyebrow lifted high in confusion as her arms were thrown out in front of her, palms turned towards the sky.

Jam es chuckled, which was almost frieghtening for his somber demeanor. He raised his eyebrows and stared the girl down. "I will answer all of this, and then we will take it one step at a time. WE CANNOT WAIT FOR THE POLICE. The number of slaves in this world are vastly incalculable, and would be suicide to try and find out. The dead are dead, you cannot brin g back those you love or need. The living are dead, all people eventually die. The dead are living, as in DUCK!" A corpse jumped up from the rubble and flew at the girl. James pulled out a uzi and wasted a whole clip on the corpse. "As in that. The only reason I can give you for the apprentice thing is that you know they exist and it looks like you're on the run since you're drenched in human blood. My master passed back into the beyond because he no longer could teach me anything I didn't already know. I didn't get younger, I became healthier. As to how I did it, there's only one way to find out." While saying all of this in a rushed manner, he reloaded the firearm, stashed it away and unlocked his vehicle. "Now come."
