"Yeah, I'm fine," he said, standing up from under the wolf's carcass. He dusted himself off and wiped some blood (Not his own) from his face and arms. He then grabbed one of the animal's hind legs. "Think you could help drag it back to camp?"
Kassia answered from behind Karina. "Sure," she said in that icy tone of hers. She cracked her fingers and grabbed the other of the animal's hind legs. Together they dragged the creature, and not a word or so much as a glance between them.

Karina followed at a distance; she didn't exactly like the look of a bloody wolf carcass. "So...did you find the wolf or did the wolf find you?" The girl was only trying to make small talk; she could see the tension between Kassia and O'Connell, and the silence was starting to creep her out.

"It found me," O'Connell and Kassia said at the same time. O'Connell looked at Kassia, cocking an eyebrow. Kassia looked back, utter indifference in her eyes. The dragging stopped and the wolf's legs were dropped. The two faced each other in silence. Kassia's eyes gleamed, her hand on the hilt of the kabar in her waistband. O'Connell gritted his teeth, his hand on the butt of the glock. "You want to explain, or should I?" Kassia said...

Karina stared at both people, wondering if they were gonna attack each other or her. She took a few steps back, then silently and discreetly checked the safety of her pistol behind her back- if she was to be attacked, then this gun was her only weapon. "Um...explain what, exactly?" She said, her voice shaking a little from both fear and nervousness.

"Not the time or the place. f**king drag," he said. He picked up the leg and began dragging the carcass again. "You'll have to tell them sometime," Kassia said as she did the same. O'Connell didn't respond, verbally or otherwise. It sickened him to think of it.
the seed planted thought Kassia. She was interested to see how O'Connell would handle this ticking bomb...

Karina followed again, but she put O'Connell and the wolf between her and Kassia. Something about how the man reacted to her made the young girl uneasy. "You guys aren't making any sense, and you're freakin' me out with all this, 'You'll have to tell them sometime.' stuff. I'm going on ahead. See ya." WIth that, Karina limped ahead of the two, and exited the trees to find Jason and LJ again on the beach.
"Something's going on between O'Connel and Kassia. I don't like it, and I'm starting to think it's got something to do with that woman." Karina stared off into space for a bit, then thought she should tell the others about the wolf. "Um...you know those shots we heard? Apparently a wolf ambushed O'Connell, and he killed it with his pistol. Kassia and him are bringing it back, but I'm not sure I want to eat any of it, if that's what they decide to do with it...all the dead people and blood are making me want to become vegetarian."

Jason looked around at all the fruit hanging from the trees and said, "You're in the right place for that." He wondered what was going on between O'Connell and Kassia. Karina wasn't alone in being nervous about it... sometimes, they appeared ready to kill each other at the slightest provocation.
"So what'd I miss with O'Connell and Kassia?" he asked. "I've seen them acting weird before... have they gotten weirder?"

Karina nodded. "Oh yeah. They're practically at each other's throats- well, almost. I think that if I wasn't there, the two would have been fighting to the death. I think something happened between them that we shouldn't know about."
Karina reached up into a low palm branch and plucked a few not-quite-ripe mangoes. She offered one to each LJ and Jason, keeping the other for herself. "Want a mango?"
((I'll be gone the whole of next week, starting sunday. i'll do something with karina on saturday, but until then i'll still post.))

Kassia and O'Connell arrived at the camp, dragging the dead wolf. O'Connell also had a bundle of sticks under his arm. "Dinner," he said, and started making a fire. "I'll gather some more wood," said Kassia as she disappeared into the forest.

LJ gave a wary look at the wolf. She noticed it was on the skinny side and expressed her concern.
"If the wolf is so skinny, wouldn't that mean there isn't much meat around? If there isn't much meat... We're going to have a protein problem."

((If/When the wolf is being skinned, I want Karina to faint. Since the wolf hasn't been skinned yet, i'm giving you guys responsibility over that happening. sorry about being gone!! i'll not post until next saturday.))
"I don't know...I'll be just fine dining on fruit and the like here. All this blood and gore is starting to make me sick." Karina turned away from the wolf carcass, hoping they weren't going to gut it in front of her.

"Jason, let me use your knife. This thing needs cleaned," he said as he began assembling a fire. The sun was starting to set off to the west. Hopefully there' be no rain tonight.
Kassia arrived in the camp carrying more logs. Most would be surprised by the amount that she can carry, given her stature. She laid them down at O'Connell's feet. "Need more?" she asked.
"No," Sully replied.

Jason gratefully accepted the mango from Karina, then handed O'Connell the knife. He wasn't so sure about eating wolf... he knew he would at least try it for the protein, but he didn't know if he could keep it down, especially if it tasted bad.
As Kassia returned with the logs, he commented, "That's a lot of wood." Then, he went on eating his mango as if he had no idea he had just made a double entendre.

Kassia looked from the pile of wood, to Jason, and to Sully. "You have no idea," she said. A normal person would have laughed. Or at least grinned. Kassia did neither.
O'Connell took the knife and sliced the wolf from the breastbone down to the groin. The intestines and stomach spilled out. He heard a thud and turned around as Karina hit the ground. "Funny, she didn't strike me as the squeamish type," was all he said. He began skinning the animal. "Make a fire," he said to Kassia, who continued assembling the kindling.

Jason, kind of grateful for the distraction, moved over to Karina to check on her. Her pulse was normal, which was good... it reassured Jason that she had fainted from the blood and not from sunstroke or something else more serious. He checked for bumps and bruises from the fall, but found none... Karina had been lucky in that she had landed on soft sand. "She's fine," he reported, in case anyone was wondering.
