It was a long stretch of road from the city to his home, but he had to travel it every morning and night.
A long drive from the hustle and bustle of the city, to the quiet country side where there seemed to be no one around for miles...
The closest neighbor he and his mother had was the Johnson's cow that always got loose and wandered to their property, but that was still a good 4 mile trip for one cow to take.
But it wasn't a bad place to live...
Holt sighed as he drove down the road, the sun had set as he left the city, and now he could only see because of his headlights.
It would have been easier to see if the moonlight was visible, but the heavy tree line blocked out most of the light day and night.
The drive home was long, but it seemed quick to him.
When he reached his gravle driveway, Holt stopped at the front of the long lane, getting out of his car to look at the house across the street.
It had been empty his entire life, an empty house at the end of a long drive, barely visible from the road...
But tonight he could see lights through the windows.
Part of him wanted to just forget about it and go to bed, but his curiousity wouldn't let him be...
So as a last minute decision almost, he got back in the car and make a quick turn, heading down the long drive to the supposed-to-be-empty house...

*Ethan cursed loudly as a rather large dead rat nearly fell on his head when he opened the old closet door. It was the third rat corpse that he'd found and from the smell it seemed that there would be a few more. The house was covered in dust, spiderwebs, hair, and rat pellets since no one had touched it in years. He hissed and kicked the corpse into the trash bag along with all of the others, certain that he would be cleaning all night. He wasn't terribly fond of the house, but it was in a convenient location, low-key and isolated... He had to take extra precautions this time... Last time he had lived too close to others and they had begun to suspect what he was... He couldn't stand how nosey humans were. Sometimes he resented being forced to live off of such repulsive creatures. Still, the blood was rich and warm and far better than any other creature he had ever tried.
He sighed softly as he grabbed the trashbag full of debris, dust, and rats, setting it aside in the corner as he started spraying the entire living room with air freshener. He frowned a little, knowing that the air was still too stale, especially for his heightened sentences. He began opening up the windows, flinching at the squeal that the rusted metal and peeling paint made in protest to his efforts. Finally, the room began to feel a little better, as did Ethan. However, the night air wafting into the room brought something else with it... the sound of a car. Frowning, he glanced out of a window to see the headlights coming down the long driveway... He got a little nervous, but he resigned himself to behaving in a friendly manner, waiting to see who the intruder was.*

Holt got out of the car and looked at the house and the lights.
"did someone suddenly move in... or..." he wasn't too sure, but just in case, he went up to the door and knocked instead of walking right in.

*Ethan hesitated a moment before reluctantly walking to the old wooden front door and opening it slowly. He smirked rather cockily when he saw the young man there, glad that it wasn't someone that posed a threat.* "Well hi there..."

"uh hi... I- I don't mean to barge in or anything, it's just... well..." he wasn't sure what to say or do. "I'm Holt, in the house across the street. And I've been there all my life and no one's ever lived in this house and then all of a sudden... you're here and I'm... rambling... sorry..." he chuckled.

*Ethan smiled his usual cocky and seductive way, chuckling softly.* "No problem, man... This place is like a masoleum... I'd be curious too." *He shrugged lightly, opening the door a little wider and leaning against the door frame, arms crossed over his chest.* "I'm Ethan... Nice to know I've got attractive neighbors... Here I was thinking that I'd have nothing but country hicks all the way out here."

Holt chuckled slightly, scratching the back of his head. "well... um... when it comes to neighbors, besides me and my mom you'll only see the cow that wonders away to here from it's home a couple miles away."
He looked inside the house a little, "man... never thought anyone would move into this house... I saw the lights and thought maybe some kids broke in..."

*Ethan nodded with a slight chuckle, glancing inside over his shoulder.* "Yeah well... I'd have thought the same thing... I'd invite you in, but... the dead rats and cobwebs and all... It's not exactly fit for entertaining my new neighbors yet. And the smell might knock you flat on your a**."

"I imagine..." he nodded.
"well I should probably go. I need to get to sleep soon. But if ya ever need anything, I'm just over there unless I'm out in the city." Holt nodded, giving a flick of his wrist before walking back to his car.

*Ethan couldn't help the smirk on his lips, giving a quick nod.* "Good night, Holt." *He didn't go back inside, watching him from the doorway.*

"night..." he got back into his car and drove off, taking a minute to get back to his house.
He got out and walked into his house, only thinking of how things would be different with a new neighbor around... if they'd be different at all.
Holt didn't stay up long, getting ready for bed and then going to sleep.

*Ethan chuckled softly as he finally went back inside, in a considerably better mood. Humans were useless, but some of them were certainly attractive. He made a mental note to add Holt to his list of potential victims before going back to cleaning his new house... He cleaned all night long before he finally had to turn in around dawn, going to his rather barren bedroom. He didn't have time to board up the windows so he climbed into a rather large trunk that he had used to move some of his possessions, closing the lid before curling up and going to sleep.*

Holt slept well all night, waking rather early and immediately getting up to go to school and work.
He wished he could have gone to a better school, but the local university was just fine.
Though his job sucked. He worked at a local restaurant that barely payed minimum wage, but he couldn't get a job anywhere else, no one needed help. So he was stuck at the stupid restaurant.

*Ethan slept soundly throughout the day, eager for the sleep after his long journey to his new house. Even with the cramped, stale space inside his packing trunk, he didn't wake until the sun was down.*

It was dark again before Holt made it home, pausing in his drive to look at the old house again before moving down his drive.
