Random news report, 2021:
"...in world news, leaders meet for final talks today, and the situation appears to be worsening. Doomsayers are preaching in the streets, nuclear warheads are armed, food is being rationed, and panic is beginning to spread in the population centers. It is impossible to even speculate which nations will side with one another, but it is certain that nuclear chaos will ensue. Now, over to Katie with the weather..."
Few remain who know what happened that day. The forces of nature would not stand idle in the face of their own destruction. And so the elementals were created and sent forth as the fighting began, and civilization ended as we knew it. When all was over, the forces of nature then saw the death and despair they had caused and decided that the elementals were too powerful to be allowed to roam free without sentient guidance. Henceforth, the power of the elementals would be fused to the souls of individuals, and their power would only manifest itself when nature and life itself was in great peril.
And so the world was gradually filled with new peoples and races. The age of technology had ended, and little remains to indicate its former glory. Now, the age of magic is upon the world. Though communities and countries of all different races can be found, the magic-incapable humans make up a clear majority. Due to typical bigotry and fear of other races' powers, magic-users are shunned by most and are kept somewhat controlled and subdued through sheer use of numbers and brute strength. In many regions, magic-users are collected into camps and kept subdued by anti-magic wards. This attempt to stamp out magic creates unrest in most other nations, and subtle tensions are brewing. It can only be a matter of time until the power of the elementals will be needed again...
(OOC: Ok, character race and such is pretty-much open ended, but no technology unless you can make it a useful part of the storyline. Examples of stuff not to include: guns, lasers, engines, missiles, lightsabers, and to a lesser extent, coffee machines and talking Elmo dolls ;D If your character is going to be an elemental as described in the above story, make him/her be an embodiment of one specific element. example: Earth, bio, water, wind, fire, etc... And don't use time, I call that one ;D Feel free to be a bad-guy, if you're up for it. One-sided = boring)
edit - added: (OOC again: Someone else start this one. I could, but I wanna see what sort of direction someone else can start this off with.)
