Before you continue reading, be forewarned that a requirement for joining this rpg is use of proper grammar, good spelling, and detailed posts. Also, do not join if you are prone to throwing in random battles, lots of "pity party" drama focused on your character, or making characters that are the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Thank you.
Ok, now that I've gotten that through, I've had this plan for a Star Wars rpg for a while. It's taken me some time to come up with the specifics on this but I think I've gotten everything sorted out. So here we go...
In the majority of the Star Wars rpgs out there, the Jedi are the heroes and the Sith are the bad guys. There's light and there's dark, with nothing in between. However, after playing Knights of the Old Republic II for the thousandth time, it dawned on me that there were many other sects of Force-wielders mentioned: Zeison Sha, Jal Shey, Grey Jedi, etc. So why always have only the choice between just the Jedi and the Sith when there are other possibilities to explore? So, I created my own order of Force-wielders known as the Carysian Knights. Seen by the Jedi as "misguided" but seen by the Sith as weak, peace-loving fools, these Knights walk in the path of the light, but have different beliefs than the Jedi Order. Here are some of the details:
* The Carysian Knights are led by a council of 7 masters.
* The ranks among the Carysians are the same as the Jedi: youngling, padawan, knight, and master.
* The formal robes worn by the council are golden yellow (I'll have a picture up soon).
* The casual robes of the Knights are much like those of the Jedi in more subtle colors such as browns, grays, white, etc. but sometimes golden like the council's robes.
* The Carysian Enclave is located on Rehema on the Outer Rim (yes, I created this planet)
* The Carysian Knights were founded eight years after the Jedi Civil War (this means a few thousand years before the Clone Wars) by Carys Jorunn and Mical Varik.
History
Carys Jorunn was a Jedi padawan during the Jedi Civil War, only sixteen years old by the war’s end. Afterward, when the remaining Jedi went into hiding, so did Carys along with her master. They hid on Rehema, a little known world not belonging to the Republic. Four years after the war, Carys was granted the rank of Jedi Knight. A year later, the threat from three Sith Lords was eliminated by a Jedi exile and the Jedi began to rebuild their ranks. Carys and her master saw that they were needed and returned to the Republic to help strengthen it and rebuild the Jedi Order.
The new Jedi Council was chosen for Dantooine, and one of the masters on it was Mical Varik. Just six years after the Jedi Civil War, Carys met Mical and fell in love with him. Knowing that their love would never be accepted by the order, they kept it secret for a long while. However, after three years of hiding their relationship, they were finally found out. When they both refused to stop seeing each other, they chose the life of exile, leaving the Republic and residing on the planet that had been Carys’ refuge once before... Rehema. There, they decided to found their own order of Force-wielders, tired of the arrogance and ignorance they saw in the Jedi. Mical suggested that they use Carys’ name, and so the new order was given the name of Carysian Knights. They drew many of their friends to their cause, and it wasn’t long before they had enough followers in their ranks to accomplish their own missions of peace.
Now, seven years later, the Carysian Knights have many followers as well as their own council. They are the protectors of Rehema and its people, much like the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine serves their planet. They are called on to settle disputes, find missing people, investigate murders, and of course, fight off those that seek to do the residents harm like the Sith. Mical did not live to see these events, as he disappeared just a few years after founding the order. Rehema has just recently joined the Republic and now has earned much more attention from both the Jedi and their enemies...
Teachings
While the code of the Carysian Knights was built upon that of the Jedi Order, there are many differences between the two groups. The most important, perhaps, is that the Carysians do not discourage love and attachment in the way that the Jedi do. They accept the fact that truly living one’s life involves forming relationships with others and feeling the strong emotions connected with such relationships. Friends, family, and spouses are all allowed attachments. The Carysians believe that such loyalties and loves can strengthen one’s will, giving a Knight something more personal to fight for and defend the galaxy for. However, the Knights are all taught to control their passions and keep things in perspective. Sacrifices must be made in order to keep peace in the galaxy. One must work for the greater good, even if it means losing a loved one. A Knight is also taught that forgiveness is highly important. No matter what harm someone may bring upon one’s companions, no one is beyond redemption and revenge is something born of the dark side. To help ease the pain of losing loved ones, Carysians emphasize that death is only becoming one with the Force and certainly nothing to be feared. Anyone lost to a Knight is then simply a part of the Force that flows through them and strengthens them. Therefore, death is not something to fear or mourn. It just means that a loved one is now even more a part of an individual who wields the Force. Carysian Knights are good at touching and feeling the emotions and will of others. All of the teachings of the Carysian Knights are founded on love, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness for everyone. They guard against hatred, anger, fear, possessiveness, arrogance, and ignorance, as these lead to the dark side.
On a side note, relationships between master and padawan is discouraged. If love developes between a master and padawan, the padawan is encouraged to find another master to train them. It is also discouraged for a Carysian Knight to train his or her family members.
I'll be playing Carys Jorunn. The rpg will take place about 15 years after the Jedi Civil war. Any opinions, questions, or people wanting to join would be much appreciated. ;D
