*pardon the lateness... had writer's block over the weekend x-o *
"Oh shut up" came the whimpering repose from the other side. Jodice wasn't in a joking mood; she wanted to blame something, someone, other than herself for what had happened to her. Her mother was the only one she could think of, and blaming her wasn't going to help Jodice one bit. The soft whining and sniffles continued, she failing to keep herself together. She didn't ask for this; she didn't even want it now, but here it was. Come on, cut this stupid sh** out! You should be happy! You're alive, and so is he. How many people walk away from something like that with barely a few scratches?
Even that didn't help. So many had died, and for what? Some stupid bastard that wanted to rule the world? What sense was there in that? For some reason, she wanted to see her parents, the people she'd sworn off two years ago to go on an 'adventure'. Well, she'd had enough adventuring for now... maybe even just a few minutes with them could ease her heart. But no - she was stuck here, at least until she was cleared to leave, which shouldn't be too much longer...

Mammoth nodded, deciding to leave Jodice alone. She had been through much, probably still unsure of her place, of her transformation. He turned from the door and hobbled his way slowly over to Pinata's doorway. He was standing there talking to a few of the clerics, and Mammoth finally spoke with a hint of sarcasm.
"Some things never change... do they, mr. womanizer?"
Mammoth grinned.

"Actually, this is a change," Pinata replied. "I was married when I was much younger, and was completely faithful to her. But I decided after she died that that wasn't the life I should be leading. For one thing, she was a bit too obvious a target for my enemies. If I appear not to care about my sexual partners, nobody will bother coming after them." He shrugged. "Besides," he added, "the Mother Goddess teaches that monogamy is an abomination against nature. I'm powerful, but not so powerful that I can afford to go around pissing off deities."
He regarded Mammoth for a few moments, then asked him, "What about you? Have you made any headway with Jodice yet?" Pinata wasn't sure what their other party member was calling herself after her transformation, so he just fell back on the name she had used most of the time he knew her. Odd that just a couple of weeks ago I wanted to kill her, he thought to himself, remembering how he had reacted when he first found out that she was the Red River Bandit.

Mammoth shook his head. He knew he was attracted to her, but that was about it, he didn't know how to respond.
"I'm not one to go senselessly after someone because I'm attracted to them... Ta be honest... I dunno what I feel I should be doin'. Best to wait 'till the thrill of victory is gone." Mammoth said. He wasn't sure if Pinata actually was interested or not, but he responded seriously anyways. Mammoth leaned on his crutch, trying to take the weight off of his sore limbs.
"I'm gonna go get some fresh air. Yer likely to be the first outta here... So, if I don't see ya, good fightin' with ya..." Mammoth said, a smirk on his face as he looked to Pinata before very slowly making his way outside of the infirmary...

"Caution is certainly warranted sometimes, where women are concerned," Pinata said. "But defeat is easier to live with than regret... wait until the thrill of victory is gone, but don't wait until she's gone." He watched as Mammoth turned to leave, and replied to the rest of his speech. "Good fighting with you, too," he said. "I couldn't think of a better person to safeguard the legacy of the barbarians." He left unspoken that if Mammoth needed anything he could count on him... he was pretty sure they both knew that about each other by now, and he figured Mammoth could probably take care of himself well enough for the most part anyway, once he healed back up to full strength.

Heaven help her, how could strength leave her so fast?! Even just standing made her dizzy now. Unwilling to admit defeat but unable to repeat that spell, she remained at the edge of her bed, thinking. Jodice hated saying goodbye, even if it wasn't permanent; she'd done enough of that recently, more than she cared to ever again.
When even sitting became difficult, she laid down. It had to be the sudden drain of power from her that was doing this. Even using a little bit of it to change her clothing had done this much... she needed to recharge, or whatever it was called. But that meant she'd have to stand up first.
And where the hell was her mother when she needed her?! That woman, ghost, whatever she was now, hadn't peeped one iota since Jodice had passed out amongst the castle ruins, and she was beginning to get worried. Bugger that; where was that other chick, the one that'd tried to kill her before turning to help her? Bleah... if it was this hard to stay connected with those she was going to be bound to, how much harder was it going to get when she had dozens of these jerks all around her? Nevermind... Jodice didn't want to ponder that. Sighing, she grudgingly remained in bed, at least until she had enough strength to wander outside once more. What she really needed and wanted right now was to move, to prove to herself that she wasn't crippled by whatever had happened...

Mammoth breathed in the fresh air of the small town they were in. Upon asking, it seemed that they were in a city designated as a site for training and meting out holy arts. Asking a warrior who passed by, Mammoth found out that they were only a few dozen miles from the battleground.
Mammoth nodded, staring around at the bustling city. It was by no means a big place, but because of the safety, it was rather busy. Citizens were out and about, and the holy guard maintained a firm watch. They seemed to be trustworthy, which was refreshing that they had not been corrupted from the recent struggles.
Mammoth asked the guard of the infirmary how the aftermath of Ralf'url's fall had gone. The soldier seemed confused, saying only that the demons had started killing each other, and slowly were becoming a non-threat. Mammoth nodded, satisfied. None needed to know what occurred, how close the world itself was to destruction. It would only cause fear, and only lead to the public and the masses looking to a select few to save them. This way, they believed it was a combined effort of their soldiers that paved the way. It would be a new found sense of confidence not seen in this nation for a long time. They could be happy, they could be proud, and they could be ready for the next thing to come along.
There were no heroes to be hailed, nobody to praise, only the collective effort of their soldiers to be proud of. There was no need for anyone to know who actually had won the fight, something that it seemed the holy soldiers who found the group agreed with. With a gaze toward the sunset, Mammoth smiled.
((And I think that should do it. We can get details on how everyone healed, etc. in the next thread?))

(Sounds good. I think you ended it really well there. Any idea what we're doing in the next thread?)
