All right... This is for those of you that needed some help role playing in Jade Empire. I'm going to list what I know, so this may not be complete. If anyone sees something important that I left out, please pm me so I can add it into this post. If you have any questions, post them here.
The first thing to keep in mind here is that Jade Empire is NOT China. It is heavily influenced by Imperial China, but it is a fantasy world all its own.
Before I can get into anything else, there is one important part of the game that needs to be stated. There are two philosophies of fighting in the Jade Empire: the Way of the Open Palm and the Way of the Closed Fist. Open Palm teaches harmony and peacefully existing with one's surroundings, only fighting when it is necessary and taking time to help others in need. Closed Fist teaches that only the strong survive, and to help others is to make them too weak to help themselves. They preach discord and looking out for one's self to become stronger and more powerful. Which path a player follows greatly affects everything in the game, including fighting styles and character interaction.
Fighting styles are broken up into categories: martial styles, weapons styles, transformation styles, support styles, and magic styles. There are over thirty different styles that you can get in the game, but I don't know them all so I'll just be listing what I've seen. Once again, normal Chinese styles don't seem to apply.
Martial Styles:
Thousand Cuts- the master of this technique is able to perform a rapid succession of quick punches, never giving their foes enough time to counter with an attack of their own
Legendary Strike- this combines lightning fast punches with powerful kicks
Leaping Tiger- combined with leaps and flips, this style makes the user's hands take on a claw-like appearance, effectively scratching and cutting into the enemy
White Demon- this style trades speed for pure power, so its movements are slow but strong
Drunken Master- a master of this style drinks wine before or during fighting, his movements becoming unpredictable but effective
Weapons Styles:
In the game, the player is given a variety of weapons to choose from, and each comes with its own particular style with the same name as the weapon. Since during roleplaying, you're probably not going to be using the exact same weapons from the game, make your own weapon, name it, and you'll have your own weapon style.
Magic Styles:
Dire Flame- the user's hands form balls of flame which are hurled at enemies, creates explosive fire bolts, or calls forth a dragon construct that spouts flame at enemies
Ice Shard- throws large shards of ice at enemies, encases them in blocks of ice temporarily, or calls down an ice storm to slow opponents
Stone Immortal- (Way of the Open Palm only) those in harmony with the world around them can coax the earth into attacking enemies with crystalline missles, encasing enemies in stone, or even opening the ground beneath an enemy's feet
Tempest- (Way of the Closed Fist only) this style can blast enemies away with gusts of wind or trap them in a swirling whirlwind that keeps them from attacking
Transformation Styles:
Transformation styles simply allow the user to change their form into that of another creature. Here are some of the ones available in the game: Horse Demon, Jade Golem, Toad Demon, Red Minister.
Support Styles:
Paralyzing Palm- blows precisely target the nerves governing major muscle groups, disrupting energy flow inste
ad of injuring tissue and leaving an opponent stunned
Hidden Fist- (Way of the Closed Fist) a collection of rather dirty and forbidden techniques that render the practitioner's foe disoriented and unable to fight back
Heavenly Wave- does no physical damage but makes an opponent's movements sluggish and incredibly slow
Storm Dragon- while this style's attacks don't cause any direct damage, its motions summon forth electricity to course through its victim, doing small but constant damage over time
Spirit Thief- deals no physical damage but steals an opponent's chi, adding it to the user's
