Fear grows in darkness; if you think there's a bogeyman around, turn on the light.
~Dorthy Thompson.
***
A screen with a picture of light-blue and white, like a security camera lays on the side of the road. It sends out the same message it has been for five years. But, now someone is watching.
On the screen, a female adjusted the angle of the camera and sits in the chair, her long dark hair matted with sweat. She clears her thought, wipes her eyes and begins "Fear. We all have it, deep in the recesses of our minds, it lays in wait. Waiting to come out."
***
In the future, a government known as the Link Rouges require everyone to obtain a chip implanted in the cerebral cortex, located right under the forehead. This chip allows the LR to control the masses, forcing them to live as slaves and brainwashing them.
***
The screen speaks again. "As a result, those who are 'wired' have a small scar on the middle-right of the forehead. Can you see it, my scar? I've been wired, but mine's malfunctioned- for the better. Those who have the operating chip are enhanced, and must obey their Shade Masters. The rebellion is starting. But now... now-" The female looks off the screen, shocked, and her pace quickens.
"Look, take this recording to the Steel, they're the resistance, get this to them. The calculations are all there, now go!"
There are shouts, sounds of a struggle, and a quick shot of a black face with blood red eyes snarling at the camera.
Then there is static.
***
Fear has come out, the chip is wearing down the walls of our the jails we keep our fears in. The chip is malfunctioning, and our fears are becoming real. monsters, ghosts, ex-spouses.
They're coming for us in the form of Shades, and near nothing can stop them.
Which side are you on?

Humans are humanoid, and those with chips (devices used to control the humans) have a small scar on their forehead from where the chip was implanted by the government.
Steel Agents: Malfunctioned chips. The resistance, they hate the Shades for killing humans and loathe the LRA's for allowing it to go on for so long.
LRA's: No chips. Link Rouge Agents, the government. they implanted the chips and forced everyone to work. Ignored the Shade problem so long as the Shades keep the killing to a minimum.
Wired Humans: Functioning chips. Civilians. Humans brainwashed by the LRA, and are literally controlled by their fears by a process called 'puppeting.'
Humans are humanoid, but Shades are too, the only difference is that Shades can shape shift between their ghost-like form and their human-form. Shades have red eyes in their 'human' form, that's the only difference between Shades and Humans.
Shades can have talons, sonic screeches, or other abilities based on their fear. ALL shades however, have the ability to puppet, or control their Wired humans- to a certain extent.
Shade Forms can range from animal-like to totally humanoid- silhouettes in dark blues or purples, and black/gray.
Shades feast on humans, and tend to be selfish when it comes to care/eating a kill. They don't really work in groups unless forced.
CUSC: Civilian of the United Shades Community [USC]. These Shades tend to be a bit less aggressive than Loner Shades.
Loner Shades: Shades gone 'rouge' or, have decided to help a human/ally with a human and are kicked out of the USC.
