I know for a fact my 'Mechs never got shields... although I did load them up with a ton (actually, I think it was technically 2.5 tons) of Anti-Missile systems.

Yep, I think shields are more a Star Wars/Star Trek kind of thing. Though I wouldn't be surprised if, for vacuum-intensive environments, the people of the Mechwarrior universe have magcon (magnetic containment) shields, or something similar to that. All that would do is maintain artificial atmosphere/gravity in a vacuum, though... it's worth nothing as protection.

They do have things to help contain atmospheres, but artificial gravity was never made, even by the clans (and the inner sphere isn't even worth considering...they blew themselves back to the stone-age almost XD ). The clans don't research it because it 'helps the weak', and the inner sphere is just nowhere near it... honestly the mechwarrior universe is the least 'advanced' futuristic world I've ever seen. The only things they have are medical techs and myomer (the metal muscle that mechs are built with) and some weapons systems. It's kind of sad >.>
