*Mariah gave him a rather disbelieving stare, shaking her head lightly.* "But how can you possibly kill what's already dead?"

Anton shrugged. "The same way you would kill something that's still alive. The magic which binds undead to this plane isn't as sturdy as you would think. Undead tend to be stronger and tougher than their mortal counterparts, but they also tend to be more clumsy and less intelligent." Anton rubbed his chin, thinking for a moment. "There are some that are immune to normal weapons, but most of those don't bother with the sea. The only one on the ship likely to have that immunity would be the captain, and she'd be intelligent enough to keep off the ship in case someone was able to destroy her."

*Mariah just shook her head as she tried to comprehend it all...* "I get the feeling that this stuff is way over my head..."

Anton smiled. "Would you like a simpler version? 'Slice, dice, or bludgeon them until they stop moving.' And whatever you do, don't be afraid."

"Sounds like that's easier said than done... Besides, isn't it true that they can put themselves together again? Or is that just another sailors' tall tale?"

Anton nodded. "They can reassemble... but only once per night. After that, if they fall again, its permanent. They'll probably fall back after being destroyed once... they won't want to chance leaving their bodies forever."

*Mariah briefly glanced at the other sailors, a frown on her lips.* "So it's just a matter of surviving long enough to drive them back..."

"Actually, I figure that they'll retreat as soon as they lose a single crewmember, permanent or not. They'll have their prize by that time, and they won't want to risk permanent losses."

"They're not going to take you without a good fight, sir. Necromancer or not, I'm not in the habit of abandoning anyone on this ship. So stop thinking so morbidly before I'm forced to break out the rum."

Anton smiled slightly. "Rum, eh? I've never actually had anything stronger than wine."

*Mariah laughed, forgetting her apprehension for a moment.* "Oh boy... You're definitely in for a wild ride then... Lots of heavy drinking on ships, especially this one."

Anton grinned. "So that's the reason why you discount all those stories, is it? Drunken hallucination?"

"Of course. Plus you know how men are... They're known for exaggeration when they've got an audience." *Mariah grinned at him playfully.*

Anton raised an eyebrow. "And women aren't?"

*Mariah gave him a look of mock offense.* "Of course not. We're far more honest and modest than men."
