*The sun had barely begun to sink below the horizon as Lilith sat in a corner of the living room. Somewhat shielded from the light of the sun, Lilith quietly read the latest book she had been given, a collection of poems. She didn't pay much attention to the students who ran in and out of the living room or those that sat watching tv. They didn't seem to notice her either and those that did kept their distance. As the sun sank a little lower on the horizon, Lilith reluctantly lifted her head to observe it for a moment. Satisfied that it was no longer a threat, she lifted a hand to take off her dark sunglasses, revealing the blood red eyes behind them before continuing with the poem she was reading.*

Chance sighed and lounged back in his chair, already bored with the night. He idly tossed the die he carried with him in the air and watched it land on the floor: a six, as usual. It's hardly even amusing anymore, he thought. Especially when you can't even make any profit off of it. Glancing around the room, Chance found no one that he could talk to, as usual. He had a lot of friends, but none of them were close, and he preferred to kep it that way. People you got close to could always hurt you. He had learned that from his father.

*Lilith briefly lifted her head as she heard something land on the wood floor. She spotted a rather bored looking boy playing with a die. She watched him for a moment, surprised that she wasn't the only one sitting alone tonight. However, before she could think anything more on the subject, a lamp suddenly flickered on near her, flooding the area with a sudden light. Hissing loudly in surprise and pain, Lilith quickly flung her arm up to shield her eyes. She heard a voice as she blindly fumbled for her glasses, quickly putting them on.*
"Oops. Didn't see you there. Sorry."
*However, the bright light stayed on anyway. She knew that the other students didn't really care. Still, Lilith gave a silent nod, blinking a few times as she waited for her vision to recover. She bookmarked her page and gently closed her poetry book, turning her back to the light.*

Chance picked the die up off the floor, glancing at the source of the hiss he had just heard. He watched as she resituated herself, facing away from the light that had just been turned on, trying to put a name to the face. Only that was rather hard as she was no longer looking towards him. Had she not been in the corner and looking like she wanted remain extremely alone Chance would have tried to engage her in conversation. Instead he sat, staring absently at the young woman, (Or rather, through her.) wracking his brain for names, absolutely sure he had it up there somewhere but unable to find it in the absolutely endless bits and pieces of trivia that were stored in his mind as well.

*When Lilith could actually see again, she took a look around the room. Whatever students may have noticed the whole light episode had gone back to ignoring her... Just the way she wanted it. After all, people ignoring you is better than people teasing you or fearing you. She was about to go back to her book when she noticed that there was still one person looking at her... the guy with the die that she had noticed earlier. He seemed to be deep in thought about something and Lilith raised an eyebrow at him, wondering what he was thinking... and why he was looking her way.*

'L'... L-something... I know it starts with an 'L'.... Arg! This is driving me crazy..... Chance thought. He blinked and found himself undeer the gaze of those red eyes: he could still tell the color, despite the sunglasses. Chance grinned apologetically and waved before getting up and walking across the room to the corner.
'Sorry for the staring thing,' he said, leaning against the wall next to Lilith. 'I wasn't actually looking AT you I was staring THROUGh you. And it was because I can't seem to dredge up your name from the depths of my useless memory and it's bugging the hell out of me,' Chance said, not sure whther or not to expect a reply.

*Lilith was a little surprised at that. People rarely talked to her unless they were making fun of her or asking her to do something. Still, she was glad that this guy wasn't doing either... yet. Despite that he hadn't said much to her, she already found him a little amusing.* "That's all right... The name's Lilith... Although most of the kids around here just stick with calling me Vampyr."

'HAH! I knew it!' Chancesaid triumphantly. 'that your name started with an 'L', I mean. I make a point to learn people's names, but they all get lost at one point or another unless I actually talk to a person. But I'm rambling now, and you're probably in the corner for a reason, so I'll leave if ya want,' he shrugged, satisfied that he got his information.

*Lilith hesitated only a brief moment before she spoke up.* "I don't mind if you want to stay..." *She shrugged lightly.* "I'm not doing anything important." *She waited, almost certain that he would come up with some excuse to leave, just like the others.*

'None of us are,' Chance replied, rolling his eyes. 'Honestly, what could any of us possibly be doing here that's of any importance whatsoever? I mean, c'mon, it's US we're talking about here,' he said, gesturing towards the rest of the people in the room.

*Lilith smiled a little, glancing at the others in the room.* "Yes well... I'd like to think that someone's doing something useful here... even if it is highly unlikely." *She paused a moment, turning her gaze back to him. She was a little surprised that he hadn't left yet.* "So... You know my name... but I don't believe I know yours."

'Oh, it's Chance,' he said, grinning at her. 'No offense, but you don't strike me as an optimist, and that was undoubtedly a hopeful statement.'

"Heh." *Lilith lowered her gaze slightly, her voice blank of emotion.* "I'm attempting to talk to a person for more than five minutes. I've noticed that the pessimist in me usually scares people off... Or maybe that's just the fangs..."

'I had a friend who once said that idealists are fools and pessimists are cowards,' Chance said off-handedly, choosing to ignore Lilith's comment about scaring people off. 'I never believed him, though, and it just managed to annoy me and about everyone else who was around him at the time,' he said with a slight shrug.

*Lilith raised an eyebrow at that.* "Strange... I always thought pessimists were quite brave... always focusing on the harsh reality instead of just trying to make themselves feel better by ignoring it." *She shrugged lightly.* "You can't change the bad things unless you acknowledge them first." *She stared at him a moment. He didn't seem like the philosophical type to her...*
