Maukri turned to look at the second half-demon. "I've trained em' to be a team no matter what. They all know their duties and will perform them without fail; I'll trust them t' that much. Besides..." She stepped around, ignoring Galius for now; it wasn't any use to get a reaction out of a stone. "I'va been wit' them all for the last twelve years or longer, for some. I knew some day like this would come; just, I thought I'd be kicking them out of the nest rather than leaving it, but the same ends will still be met. They will need to fend for theyselves for a while, and they will. All of em' are strong, or they woulda ended up like the others we lost o'er the years. Besides, if all else fails, there still be the sub-basement..."
Truth be told, she really had wanted to get out and do something, but doing so on her own would be too risky. Not to mention suicidal; even with a discriminating group such as this, there was more safety than fighting a one-(wo)man war...
Carella hugged and kissed all that she found on duty goodbye, and left her regards for the rest. When she didn't see Maukri, she began to get worried... and then doubly so when she noticed her outside. "Oh great..." Carella mumbled, appearing as she was strapping her home-made crossbow to her back... now, it was more of a momenta of what had-been, rather than a weapon she depended upon through life and death, given that she was finally free of her human side pretty much once and for all...

Karsten kept quiet as he heard this. She had a valid point but he wasn't going to give up so easily either and he genuinely believed there was a danger the plac would fall if she left. He looked past the woman at Carella as she approached and spoke, "When I would go hunting for demons, I would kill the leader first. The rest of them just lost hope seeing their leader fall and became easy prey. If that uniform is more than a decorative dress, you should know this and so would every demon that wants your home destroyed."

Maukri had no answer; there was no need for one. Even if the improbable happened, they wouldn't know unless someone told them. Besides, what would they do when she was gone? Run away from one of the few auras of light left in this gods-forsaken city? Sure it would harm their moral, but they wouldn't go down without a fight; Maukri had trained them that way, and she knew they would follow suit. Besides, she had someone more important to keep her eye on. None of the other girls could destroy half a city if they went a little wild, after all. They were human; Carella was not.
Speaking of which, she wasn't far behind. Knowing the routine, she gathered herself in front of the boulder and gave it a solid shove. Surprisingly, it gave with hardly any effort on her part. Once it was propped up and back in place, she waited for the others. Mauki stood behind the huge rock, having drawn out a raggedy torn cloak from a pack she carried to cover her armor with. Moving first with her bow drawn and ready, she checked the path, making sure there were no undead freaks around. It was, after all, her territory, and was only right for her to be hurt/maimed/mauled/killed first should something go terribly wrong.
Once she'd assessed the path safe, she signaled, then waited for the others to pass by. She would bring up the rear, ensuring that no ambushes would come from behind. Without a helmet, she looked as crappy as the rest of them, albeit a bit cleaner; by the time this was over, she'd be just as dirty, if not moreso because of her fairly assertive fighting style...

Oddly enough, it wasn't hard to evade the pale soldiers causing havoc out front of the hospital. They were still focused on the gate, and seemed to have not changed their goal. It was interesting that they never seemed to tire, more to the mystery of what the hell it was that Warric used to brainwash them into being in this state. This was not the work of a man who used legitimate means to persuade the masses. Galius laughed to himself as he took point, he and his brother were very much alike. He turned around, looking back at the ground and moving toward the alleyways and starting his travel north, where they would be searching for the keep. Everyone knew where the keep was, even if they had never been there. The keep was all that remained of when Varamen had hope. Now it was a collapsing heap of stone and mortar. Galius was prepared for a long journey to this place, and once they were there, one of the hardest battles of their lives. This was it, this was what he had set out for. His revenge was at hand... Walking through the alleyways, he couldn't help but shake the feeling they were being watched... ((There will be a few jumps in time along this journey, so stop me if you need some character development. There are a few plot points I have stuck in my head for the journey )

As they walked forward, he again got the sense he had only got rid of when they had entered the sanctuary of the hospital. It was as all living... and maybe some not so alive, were watching them, waiting for something. It was as if the city waited on the outcome of this 'quest', no it was a hunt, for one, Warric. Karsten was questioned by the demon at this point. Why he was still with the group. The demon knew the answer as well as him, Carella. Before, she was the only sight he had but since the demon gave him that, he didn't really need to stick with this group. But they were the ones now standing up against Warric. He was not the root of the problem, sure, Karsten knew that. He was just another he would have liked if the reaper had stayed with him. This one was just a bit harder to kill, thats all. Now, he had another, who he cared about in this city, Carella. He would stick with her, till the end of this journey and beyond that. They were two of a kind, and that was the curse and the blessing. ((YES! This is a filler. YES! I got bored of waiting... ))

Carella sheepishly followed up behind Karsten, looking more like a child being punished than a deadly hunter who could kill with barely the flick of a hair. Taking a moment to look back and acquire a death stare to Maukri, she then proceeded forward, obviously irritated. Still, she made no motion towards her; some sort of respect for the elf seemed to be present for reasons unknown, even though she would most likely make life difficult for them all...
Maukri followed up, keeping an arrow strung as she moved. It would take a week at best to reach the city core, and any number of things could happen. The freaks were still at the other end of the gate, faking their assault continuously, as if they hoped to win somehow against wroth iron. The worst-case scenario would be if one of the girls got curious and opened up one of the upper levels, where some of the worst cases of freakism were kept... None of them were foolish enough to do that, and none of those half-dead freaks would know what's up there, so Maukri didn't worry about it.
A sudden burst of movement caught her eye, and sounds caught her ears; the bow creaked slightly as it was pulled back, prepared to fire at the first thing that showed its face. She wasn't one to be caught off-guard easily, even as the others wandered about seemingly aimlessly. Nor was she going to lead them; this wasn't her party, after all, and all she could do was follow for now. Besides, she had a few questions of her own she wanted answers to...

Galius stopped mid-step as he heard something move and heard Maukri's bow crackle as it was pulled back. He looked around slowly, keeping his eyes peeled for anyone who moved, and before long the silence was all that was there. Not a sound, it was a deafening silence...
Galius stopped wasting time and stepped forward, feeling a brush of air past his chin and then the hot feeling of blood coming down his neck. He reached up and felt his chin, something had cut him right under the chin. It wasn't a bad cut, but it was there. He looked around, unsure what was causing the trouble, but it was something that was near. The problem was, whatever it was, they couldn't see it. It couldn't have been Warric... could it?
Galius waited again, the silence in his ears was almost painful, until he finally felt the timing was right, and he began his phaseshift. In the grey haze of the warp he was doing, he had only a few seconds to see everything as it was. He could see his allies, but nothing else, as he quickly looked around the alleyways. It wasn't Warric...
Finally, he returned to his spot, little more than a few seconds of time spent in the shift. Whatever struck him was either gone, or waiting for them to move again. He stepped forward, but this time raised his blades with insane speed to both sides of his chin, a clang echoing out as metal struck metal. But as soon as the sound rang out, he was cut on the forehead. Blood come down his forehead as he scowled. Whatever was attacking them had them completely stuck. If they moved, they would be struck. Galius looked around, finally seeing something that alerted him. A gleam from the sun shined off something metal as he looked up. Above him was a woman in complete camouflage with the surrounding vines that had grown up over the concrete buidling. Were it not for the metal darts hanging from her fingertips, he'd have never seen her. She apparently didn't know he saw her either.
He pulled an arrow and nocked his bow, before turning suddenly and firing. The arrow soared trough the air and hit the concrete of the wall right next to her as Galius grinned. She jumped to the ground and clapped, a smile on her face as she stepped forward.
"Well done, seen me before the third strike. The third time I always kill them..." She said, her voice a painfully annoying high pitch whine. Galius gritted his teeth as he stepped forward, the darts from he hands shooting out towards him. He dodged to the side and grasped the strings that she used to retract them and pulled her from her feet. He ran up and jumped, kicking her in the stomach as she was getting up and then holding her down with his boot at her neck. He smiled.
Through chokes she hissed out, "You look like your brother... only... less... handsome...." She said, her breath getting shorter as Galius pressed harder. She reached for his boot trying to pull it away, kicking him in the back and butt as she tried to struggle free. He watched her gasp for air, the fear in her eyes as he let free so she could breathe again. He made her turn blue, and he did it three or four times before he finally let her speak again.
"I'm gonna make him kill you for this!" She screamed.
Galius laughed. His brother was satisfied sending his minions after him until he was dubbed a threat. She spat up on Galius' leg of his pants before saying something that made him hesitate.
"You'd kill a pregnant woman?!" She said, his foot loosening on her neck. But she made the fatal error of saying who the father was, "You kill me and you kill his son too!"
Galius put his boot down hard, she gasped for air as the pressure and lack of air caused her to begin turning blue. This time, he wouldn't let her breathe again....

Maukri was fairly disgusted at what she was watching, but did she have much of a choice? She just kept her eyes open for the moment... but the harpy's squeaks and whines were getting under her skin as Galius squeezed the life from her. She knew she shouldn't feel anything for this woman, but having been around young girls for so long... finally, when she started turning blue in the face, Maukri turned back and said "For the love of the gods, at least get something out of that wench before you do her in. Location of enemy movement, traps in the way, even her name would be more useful than killing her outright. Unless..."
She turned, pulling the string back on the bow and moving it slightly in Galius' direction, finishing her statement with "Unless you've become like them..." Even though their opponent was anything but human, if the group lost that shred of what separated them from those freaks, then there was no point to hunting them down; if one of them turned in their direction, then they would pick up after its original owner died, and this city-wide massacre would never end. Besides that point, they needed to move, so either he got info and then killed her, or he kill her now, because they were vulnerable outside. If he didn't get a move on soon, she'd make sure he did...
Carella, meanwhile, didn't know what disgusted her more; the sight of a pregnant woman being strangled to death, or the fact that seeing her like that caused pains of hunger to whelm up inside her. She wasn't human at all anymore, granted, but for some reason that made it all the worse that she felt this way. That look of hunger was impossible for her to disguise, and all the more it disgusted her. She waited, though, not fearing Galius in the least, but more for not wanting to get between a dog and his 'meal', so to speak. If the wench died, she'd still be fresh anyways.

Karsten had stopped where he was, he had just thought of moving up to the roofs to scout for what it was when Galius was struck again. He decided not to do so. Whoever it was, was much faster than them, fast enough not to be seen. He heard the brief conversation and then the following toture Galius was inflicting upon her. He was a bit shocked when he heard about her being pregnant. He scowled as Galius continued to strangle her with his boots. Karsten moved forward, grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled Galius off the woman. He looked down to make sure she wasn't going anywhere anytime soon and then turned to Galius. "No, I have a beef with Warric too but this is beyond a line, the line if you cross, you would become your brother. The woman is right..." but there was a catch because Karsten smiled, an almost evil smile. He couldn't explain it here but he hoped Galius trusted him enough or at least his combat sense to take his slight hint and calm himself down. He relayed his thought to Carella, Of course she has to die, eventually, because we can't allow Warric's seed to grow in this city. But if she is carrying his child, he is not about to send her alone to face-off against all of us. Besides, she won't come down like she did to die at Galius' hand unless she was sure she was well protected. Just play along with me here. Oh and control your hunger Carella, the woman's hand behind you is starting to tense. I don't want to kill her... His focus shifted to Carella at this point and he smiled again. ((EDITED to remove a small error, nothing needing another read ))

Maukri was about to move to the woman when she heard something, and every alarm in her body went off. Ducking and turning in one motion, she just caught the flash of silver moving by her head; any slower and she would have been dead. Without even making eye contact, she pulled all the way back and fired. Several seconds later, a thump was clearly heard to her from a good distance. She swore, and wanted so badly just to kill Galius right here, right now; it was a set-up from the start, and he had walked them right into it.
The woman was most likely already gone, but she'd fall soon enough if her goal was to kill Galius; whatever family feud was going on, Maukri didn't give a d**n, but it seemed this Galius had something out for whoever the father of this woman's child was. All Maukri cared about was ridding this city of these pests once and for all. "SPREAD OUT!" she yelled, immediately taking cover just as one nicked her shoulder as she'd turned unexpectedly, that one aiming to take her firing arm out of action. "Stop bickerin' and start fightin', dammit!"
*hope that works >.<*

Galius' anger would have to wait. The arrogant Maukri was content to sit back and then once things went awry she opened her mouth, as if she had done anything to stop the situation. Her attitude was getting on his nerves, and he was nearing the urge to sever her head from her neck. However, there were a few concerns other than her, those being the people attacking. These were not the pale soldiers that usually attacked, however, these were normal uninhibited humans.
Rolling to the side, Galius shot an arrow past a pillar nearby that rammed into the wall next to one of the attacker's heads. Bracing himself on the wall as the woman he was strangling rose up to run, he fired an arrow at her that caught her in the back of her calf. She fell to the ground with a cry of pain. The attackers swiftly moved forward, providing cover fire as they reached her. The largest man in the front swept her up as the others held down the group with arrows. Galius rolled out and fired an arrow that slammed into the crotch of the frontman, who fell to the ground screaming in pain before a second arrow landed on his forehead. But Galius couldn't keep up the pace as he felt an arrow slam into his shoulder.
He reacted quickly, rolling back to cover, knowing they would get away if he or his allies didn't act fast...

Even though it had all happened to quickly, he was almost expecting it and had thought of what to do. Galius seemed to always have the nack to draw attention of hostiles around him and just like Karsten had hoped, he did this time as well. Karsten took the opportunity and leaped up to a roof to the side to try and flank the attackers but they had thought of something similar as he found himself face to face with about half a dozen of these fast moving humonoid creeps, their hands disfigured and patched with sharp, broken crude blades, no doubt infected with poison or disease. They were going to flank them in return!
He spoke privately to Carella again, Let the woman run back to Warric but help the others get through these creeps and move after her. I got my own problems here...six of them... He said this as the six seemed to have been stunned by his suden appearance. Now that they were out of it, they began circling him. But he was smarter than to risk these odds and jumped out of the circle they were trying to form around them. He kept moving, trying to keep all of them in front of him, getting one across its face with his first strike with his claws.
He kept hopping on roofs trying to stay away from his attackers claws, managing to throw another to the ground below on the metal boundary, right into the spikes, impaling him. They were trying to rush at him together now, growling loudly. He took out the axes he still had on his belt and got the two closest to him with one each. But he let go of the axes as the two fell down off the roof and growled when he felt an arrow embedd itself in his left shoulder.
Without giving him a chance to even recover, the two that were left jumped him and pinned him under him. He felt a pain rise in his side and could guess it was one of them trying to tear him in half. One of his hands were pinned under the body of one holding him down. He raised the other one and punched the thing in its guts and kept it there. Very soon it screamed out loud and tried to run away as the other back up in, almost afraid. With his other hand also free now, Karsten took hold of the head and the process accelerated. Very soon he had nothing but an ashen skeleton in his hand which he threw off himself and got up. The last one was no where to be seen. Perhaps seeing the fate of the other, it had decided to bolt which was probably good as Karsten needed the time to heal, after he took out the arrow.
((Is swytch around?))

Taking advantage of the distraction, Maukri moved around one building, paying no heed to the hail of fire that had been raining around her. Pulling three arrows, she strung all of them, a special feat which she had created this very bow for, and waited. Upon hearing the scream of the front man, she whipped out from around the corner, releasing each arrow in rapid succession. Two found their targets in the forehead, but the last one just glazed the head of that one carrying the wench.
Growling, she pulled another arrow and gave chase, ignoring a dagger to the shoulder. Having stared down Death more times than even an abnormally violent Varmenian(?) meant there was little fear in her heart, and a single, non-debilitating wound wasn't her concern. However, when a plate whipped right off, she ducked for cover immediately; since it was bolted and tied down solidly, such a thing shouldn't happen... "Great, now we have mages in this" she thought to herself. It was time to end this, and quickly, before things got out of hand even further...
