Wolfe ignored Pinata for the moment. He had always been like that. Never taking things too seriously, despite the situation, unless of course he was right there fighting. Then he was a force to be reckoned with. The noise and the sudden shift had gone unnoticed by Wolfe till Pinata exclaimed about it. But Wolfe didn't even turn. It was what was ahead, over the cliff edge they were heading towards that drew him more.
The fact that a part of him was drawn to it was enough of a hint as to what it could be. Some dark. Right now, that also meant it had something to do with Ralf'url. Wolfe had been walking at a steady pace but now ran ahead to the edge and looked down in the great valley that lay ahead. "Uh oh...", he exclaimed.
The sky above was turning black with reddish lightening striking the top of the black castle/fortress that stood on the ground. The grass and the trees around it, in the whole valley were dead, as if burnt and charred. The castle stood tall, higher than any that could be built in less than a whole lifetime of a ruler. But this was not a castle built by humans. This was one raised by a demon, and in this case that demon was probably Ralf'url. This is what happened to the planes that were lost to the devil and hell. The demons would (literally) raise hell on the plane and he guessed this castle was the source. He could feel the corruption spreading through the ground and no doubt, Pinata could too though he would have the perspective of being against the force killing all natural life around it. Wolfe on the other hand felt drawn to the power destroying life around them slowly.
He had been in a castle like this only once before, and he had nearly died then. He had followed a demon he was hunting in a castle such as this. That plane already belonged to the devil so as to speak. It wasn't just the size of the force that resided in there that had surprised him but also the pull he felt. He had actually considered 'changing sides' while in there, his sense almost overpowered. But it was the thought of that one girl, the one spirit up with the angels in heaven that had kept him from switching. He could have everything in that darkness, everything except the one thing he truly wanted.
But this time he did have company. Pinata and... well, that's all for now unless Jodice and Mammoth decided to join them anytime soon. He turned to Pinata and explained, "That my friend is what happens when evil wins on a plane. It seems Ralf'url has grown impatient and raised his castle... and his army before defeating us. Someone must have made him impatient. Oh and when I say army, I really mean an army, of hellish minions. They are not much alone but in the numbers I saw the last time I was in a place like that... they get dangerous."
He paused, then added a bit cautiously, "We are going to have to go in there to get to Ralf'url and his commanders. A word of advice, don't believe anything you see, hear or feel in there. The darkness has a tendency to always be open to new recruits. The pull should be far lesser for you but still... if you are being persuaded that uh... Madeline's soul is in hell or they can fulfill your greatest desire... well, its not true." He didn't have any other way to explain what Pinata might face in there.
He looked up at the sky. Right, the castle had to be razed. He didn't know if it was even possible but he would try. But he couldn't do that unless there was nothing left to fight. Because after a spell of that power, he wouldn't have much energy left to do much.

(The disturbance Pinata sensed was actually Mammoth's arrival, but this is good so let's go with it.)
Pinata nodded, all traces of good humor gone from his face now as his single-minded focus on destroying the enemy -- the gift, and the curse, of the war wizard -- set in. "Thanks for the heads-up," he said. His voice had lost its light and fun quality as well, turning hard and military. "I've faced beings from hell before, but never in these numbers. We're going to need help from supernatural forces ourselves... hold on a second." He knelt, closed his eyes and started muttering in an old, forgotten language. Because Wolfe was roughly his age and at least as knowledgeable about arcane matters as him (if not more so), Pinata guessed he might be able to understand the prayer to the Mother Goddess... if so, he was likely the only other person in this part of the multiverse that spoke the ancient language.
A portal of shimmering white and green energy appeared behind Pinata, and an assembly of beautiful women -- with olive-green skin -- walked out of the portal, wielding wooden bows, spears and other weapons of the woods. "Dryads," Pinata explained. "Tree spirits... not only can they help us defeat this enemy, but they can help restore life on this plane afterward. In fact, they can start now." He gestured down into the valley below... although the dark magic of the castle seemed to be holding on more strongly the closer the structure was, at the very edges of the destruction zone the grass was starting to recover and turn a lush green once again. "Should I call for Jodice to join us?" he asked. Having someone of a white mana essence along would likely help immensely, though he would prefer to have all five colors represented. Mammoth would do fine for red, the color traditionally associated with barbarians... but they would apparently have to do without blue.
(OOC: The only reason I'm mentioning the colors of magic again is because it occurs to me that Vex has a lot of blue-mage traits... once Pinata finds that out he'll likely try to recruit him.)

*time to wake up Sleeping Pissy*
Nearly eleven hours had passed since she'd fallen asleep, and when Jodice did finally wake up she knew in an instant that something was wrong. Stretching, she cleared the gunk from her eyes and stared up at the sky; it was closing in on mid-day, but the heavens were still dark as the evening, but without the lovely sunset. Alarms, some of which she never knew existed, were going off in her head, and the very air itself was starting to make her sick. The spirits around her were obviously in a frightened state, even her attendant. And just to top it off, that lady gave her a mental knock, shouting in her head "Hey princess, naptime's over. The sh**'s already hitting the fan, and we've got a schedule to double-time on."
Well, at least she was in control of her body again, though whether that was a curse or just a nicety that her soul-bound hijacker was offering Jodice was yet to be determined. Stretching out as she stood, the woman gathered her things along with some rations that had been gathered by the ghosts for her while she was sleeping. Refitting her armor by herself was difficult but not impossible, and after about an hour she was off, even with the soreness left over from the night before, having left a message with the spirits for the others in case she was gone longer than a few days, which seemed likely. After a quick stretch, Jodice disappeared into the forest, though it seemed that actually disappearing from the current bunch was all but improbable...

Attracted by the surge of magic, a tall man shrouded by a black cloak sat concealed within a bush. Dryads... he thought. What are they doing here... He watched the nature spirits intently for a moment. He was sure they knew he was there, but why they didn't react to him was a mystery. He had come to this area seemingly at random, though now he wondered if fate had perhaps intervened. He smelled a wolf nearby, from the direction of the magical pulse that, he presumed, had summoned the dryads. Geared for war...what's going on?
He stood up slowly, careful to make slight noises before the dryads saw him. He stared at the dryad nearby - the only one that had reacted to him coming out of hiding. "Can you take me to the one who summoned you?" He lifted his cloak's hood up just a bit to give the dryad a glimpse of his feline face.
Following the dryad, he walked towards the smell of wolf and magic. He sniffed the air. A human too...this threat is bigger than I thought. A moment later he spotted Wolfe and Pinata. He walked towards them, his sapphire eyes gleaming from beneath his hood. He gave a quick nod of his head towards the two people once they noticed him. "Greetings. Might you know what all these dryads are up to? Or maybe what that evil castle is all about?"

"I summoned the dryads," Pinata said, eyeing the stranger carefully. He was wary of him, but could see no reason to lie to him about how the nature spirits had come to be here. "As for the evil castle... he would know more about it than I would." He jerked his head toward Wolfe.
"But first things first... who are you?" he asked. There was a fluid, catlike grace in the stranger's movements, which suggested he was built for fighting. It would be useful to know sooner rather than later if this one was a friend, or an enemy.

In the center of the stronghold, demons sparred violently in a ring near the strongholds inner section. No doubt Ralf'url hiding inside, watching from his peak, his army trained and prepared. His lieutenants, the strength and backbone to his army, continued to patrol the ranks of forces that were calmly tearing themselves apart. It is to be expected that they didn't fear losing soldiers as they could be easily raised from the ranks of the hellspawn.
Suddenly, as if a meteor, a silver blur slammed into the center of the sparring circle. The soldiers had stopped moving, all turning to the upturned dust and scattering rocks. On a knee, holding his blade, knelt the Champion of the Ancestors...
"Ya gotta be kiddin' me..." Mammoth said, looking around.
Great... Nice teleporting job. Stuck me in the middle of the enemy stronghold...
Mammoth stood slowly, cracking his neck as the demons began to encircle him. A lieutenant gave the order, and the demons charged him.
"TAKE A SEAT!" Mammoth yelled. He raised his leg and a surge of blue energy, looking like lightning, surged about his leg. This energy, neutral energy, surged from his body into the ground. As he stomped, a shockwave shot out, knocking all the nearby demons from their feet.
d**n... How the hell'd I do that? I guess I get to learn how to use this on my own...
Neutral energy, the purest form of energy. It is a combination of all colors, a magic without weakness, a pure energy. Not many aside from the ancestors were known to wield this energy, as it is the energy that commands life and will. It does not give life, but rather destructs the will of a being, the strength they have. It deprives them of everything, and if done enough, it can kill them. Strictly an offensive magic, it can be channeled by others if allowed, letting them feed from whatever mana source they themselves use. There was a reason the Ancestors were battlefield leaders...
But here, standing among the demons, stood the last.
"FOOL! You will die here!" One of the demon Lieutenants roared out. Mammoth laughed. The demons nearby were getting to their feet when he slammed his foot again, bringing them back down to their knees. Mammoth stepped over them and began walking toward the lieutenant who was able to withstand the shockwave. The Lieutenant, this one the same that crushed Arthos and sent Mammoth flying, charged. Raising his fist, he swung toward Mammoth's face.
A look of terror came across the demon's face. Mammoth, his entire right arm glowing a deep blue that pulsated with his heartbeat, clutched his hand, forcing him to his knees.
"I think it's time you sat down..." Mammoth said, running the demon through on his blade before dropping him. Finally, the path clear, Mammoth made a break for the gate. He couldn't take the whole army himself. Running with thousands of demons at his heels, Mammoth reached the gate, cutting two guards in half as he passed through. He turned around and slammed his foot down again, that the only thing he knew how to do. He would have to train to understand his powers. But he could feel the effects of using this energy. It was draining him much faster than usual.
Turning after he brought the demons to their knees he ran from the scene, slinging his massive blade as he ran. As he crossed the hill opposite the castle-keep, he saw some familiar figures.
"Good to see ya two managed to stay alive..." Mammoth said, walking toward them. He didn't see Jodice, he assumed she had fallen. He felt the loss of another ally, but knew he could not dwell. She was not a warrior, and her fall would be avenged, "Looks like ya guys could use some help..." Mammoth grinned.

((I'm editing this so Piñata doesn't have to edit his, and so we can keep it more congruent. This is gonna be a short one, since I'll be adding a new post at the end.))
The cloaked figure jumped a bit when he heard Mammoth's voice, and his eyes went wide once he glanced over at him. He gave a slight nod to him though, once he realized the other two were likely friends with him.

"Bloody well right we do," Pinata said, lapsing into the speech of his home country once again. He would have to stop that... one of these days he was going to meet another Englishman and reveal to them exactly what he was. "Jodice needed to rest, so we went on a scouting expedition," he explained. "We didn't expect to find... this."
He turned to the new arrival. "This is our friend, Mammoth," he said. "And you still haven't told us your name." While he was waiting for introductions to be made, he unclipped a flask from his belt and took a swig. It was best to go into battle as sober as possible, but it didn't hurt to balance that sobriety out with a few drops of rum.

Watching from a distance, Vex was really rather confused. More so than usual anyway.... There were several that matched the descriptions, yeah. A big guy in heavy armor(which they had apparently forgotten to mention was enchanted) and a planeswalking druid were mentioned and things with them were in order. But the dark mana user, was described as a lithe female with silver hair. Not some serious looking dude. Vex shuddered as an unusual thought crossed the mind, which was better left unknown.
"Now.... who be you?" He muttered in regard to the cloaked figure. It had a powerful aura, sure. But he was expecting another female for the final party member, and no woman he had ever met was that tall. Praise de powers dat be for that....This simply means that these other unusual people were addons or replacements. "Den where be the other two? Bah, I'm sure me be findin' out soon enough." He muttered, leaning on a dead looking tree. The surprise came when the dying thing snapped in half and Vex fell flat on his rump.

"Ah...sorry." Caelen stammered a bit...something about forgetting his manners. "I'm Caelen. I sensed a magical pulse, so I came to investigate." He gave a slight bow, glancing at Pinata's weaponry as he did so. "I...uh... didn't expect to find a wolf and hunter working together though." He stood up straight, eying the human with more than a hint of suspicion in his eyes. As luck would have it, however, a gust of wind blew through, parting his cloak and lifting his hood. His hand darted up to catch the hood. He froze in place, his hand at the tip of his hood, as he stared at the human. His hand had white fur, black stripes, and sharp claws; his elongated face had surely been shown briefly before he caught the hood. Well... cat's out of the bag now, I guess... His eyes likely gave away exactly what he was thinking.

*does the ~time warp~*
Hours had passed already, and tinges of what seemed to be electricity sparked the air, manufacturing that tinny smell that lightning makes when it strikes close enough to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Jodice hadn’t ever sensed such things before unless they were direct, as with lightning; now, she could see patterns forming, pulsing all around her as she questioned – no, interrogated – the ethereal hitchhiker. ’What is all of this? Am I actually seeing a storm brewing here?’ ’You could say that,’ the voice replied cryptically, ’But what your eyes see now is the pulse of life around you, the very thing you have a limited ability to manipulate. However, your concern is not with what is living, but this will help you to see what your eyes cannot, to see intent, to see the unseen. Cool, huh?’
She cringed, not really knowing what to say as Enia continued with a scoffing sigh ’Kids these days… Anyhow, I’m sure you’ve already begun feeling the effects of yesterday. It had t’ happen. Even after that, your body still won’t take well to what it must do. Whatever limited energy you have now will negatively affect you until your physical self can withstand such force. Until then, try not to get yourself too worked up… what happened that one day, with you going all power-psycho, that could kill you right now if you try it again. We have an understanding?’
So focused Jodice was on Enia’s ‘voice’ that she didn’t hear the sobs until they were loud enough for anyone to hear. She stopped, looking around until she caught a glimpse of it; most of what she saw had been either a fairly bright green or a shade of wispy blue, but this was red, distinctly so, and moving away from her. But seeing only bright, spider-webbed basic colors wasn’t helping her at all; she asked Enia ’Hey, how’d’ya shut this thing off or-?’ Before she finished, the green and other zig-zagged colors all around her abruptly faded, turning back to normal as soon as she’d thought it. ’Loving mana-sight yet?’
Jodice didn’t respond; even with what little light there was, she could see blood on the leaves in the northerly direction that the figure (as she was sure it was human-ish) had gone. She followed for some time, and when the trail dried up she was about to give up hope when a yelp came from up ahead. By the time Jodice was near, she could feel a tingling in her fingers, something she’d felt before but had ignored back at that camp where her friend had died…
Jodice allowed the Valkyrie spirit to guide her when she demanded it, erupting from the underbrush to run through one of several lesser demons surrounding the fallen figure of her pursuit. Letting go, she dispatched the rest in short order, then turned to the scrambling figure who was desperately trying to get away. Jodice didn’t need any supernatural abilities to sense the fear radiating off of her, but why? Her hand was swatted away as the cloaked figure continued fighting back, albeit poorly as one hand was clutching a bleeding wound that didn’t look right. The next time the person tried to push away, she grabbed the arm with lightning reflexes, a gurgled gasp escaping from the one she was trying to help.
Even with such a rough, unrefined edge, Jodice surmised in a heartbeat that it was a woman, and as that begun to sink in, a bloodied hand shot for her face. It was slow and not well aimed, easily dodged, and only when she examined closer after deflecting the assault did Jodice see the poisoned twin-pronged needle fall away, one that matched a particular snake-bite-like mark on her neck. Anger rose within her as the girl’s hood fell back, pure terror on her face. “You… you’re the one who…” ’Not now’ Enia warned lightly, ’But the timing couldn’t have been better. Here starts your first lesson, kai’mei.’

A lot of things happened simultaneously. Wolfe watched curiously as Pinata communicated with the goddess to ask for some assistance. Now Wolfe was even more glad Pinata was around with him this time. They would definitely need those dryads if they were ever to undo the damage that just the existence of that fortress was doing to the ground. He did sense the shift in the energy pattern, even within that hole of black energy in front of him. It didn't make sense to him for a minute before he saw Mammoth rushing out, a lot more powerful and changed, for the better.
Wolfe gave the big man a rare smile as he claimed to have come to help them. "Way to make an entrance..." Wolfe observed the man for a minute. He had met a few wizards possessing the same energy, neutral energy. It somewhat went with the temperament of the man how they used the energy. He could probably guess easily how it would work for Mammoth. "Watch what you throw that thing at. A devious entity... like Ralf'url can use that energy against you if you screw up."
He had seen Mammoth's attempt to use the energy a minute ago. Wolfe shared a glance with Pinata that said something like, 'I think our reinforcements are unpredictable.' It was time for a crash course in magic for Mammoth, "Listen, if you want to use that power quickly, start by channeling it through your strengths or element or your... thing so to speak. In your case, your physical attacks will let you channel it on its own but you waste a lot of it if you don't direct it with your will and leave it to instincts. So learn with practice. I am guessing you will quite a lot of that soon. Oh and whatever you do, use short bursts, do not channel it, not towards the higher demons, they will adapt to a flow if they are powerful."
That was the lesson, now how good Mammoth was would determine if he was going to die or live for the next few hours. The minions behind him had never come up the hill. They had detected Pinata and him. Wolfe turned when he saw another creature approaching. Another magically endowed being for that matter. He was clearly clueless of sorts about the situation but was also not on Ralf'url's side which was all that he didn't want right now. Where was Jodice and the goddess.
Then there was another source that Wolfe hadn't been able to detect. It was somewhat silent which was odd until Wolfe remembered some of the encounters he had in his life before on other planes. Wolfe didn't attack the figure who was lying quite dazed flat on the ground, after appearing to have taken a shaky tree for support. "Hey, you there... you on our side... or trying to flank us?"

Pinata watched as a sudden gust of wind blew Caelen's hood back. A weretiger... that's interesting, he thought. The comment about him being a 'hunter' and the distrustful way Caelen had glanced at his silver sword started to make sense now, and Pinata felt it was time to explain some things.
"You have no more to fear from me than my friend Wolfe here," Pinata said. "The silver's only for protection... old habit from having lived on a plane where werecreatures were something to fear. I'm not a hunter unless someone forces me to be, and since you would have already attacked me if you were going to I'm guessing you're not an enemy." He stepped toward Caelen in as non-threatening a manner as he could manage, and extended a hand. "At any rate, it's nice to meet you. But be careful... there are demons about."

Caelen relaxed, letting his hand drop from his hood. The hood fell back, revealing his head completely. "A different plane eh? Sounds like an interesting story... I guess I'll just have to help get rid of the demons if I want to hear it." He grinned slightly; then he flicked his head towards the wolf. "He actually goes by Wolfe? Oh...and I never caught your name." He retracted his claws and started to reach his hand towards Pinata's, as if to give him a handshake, but he stopped half way, sniffing the air. His gaze darted to the side, following the direction Wolfe was looking. "And I thought I was the stealthy one..." He chuckled, then turned back to face Pinata and continued with the handshake.
Standing straight again, Caelen looked around. "I don't know how much help it will be...but I can use enchantment and illusion magic." He started putting on a pair of clawed gloves. "I've also got these. It's as good a replacement as any for real tiger claws." He held up his gloved hands, focusing his gaze on them. A moment later they began to glow faintly with a soft blue light. The light around the claws seemed to be just a bit brighter. "So, what's the plan?"

*crimson's a bit easier to see than red, no? white just glares too much, even on the scheme I have (blue/green combinations), so I stuck that in :\ and 'demi' means 'half', just in case there was any lingual confusion there*
'First lesson?! What the f- She's that- and what the hell's a 'kai'mei' anyhow?' 'Yeah, your first lesson as a soul-bearing demigoddess. As for that latter bit, I think you can guess.' Had Enia been physically next to her chuckling like that, Jodice might just have lobbed a fist into her face. She was pissed, but remained quiet.
'First order of business, stabilize the lady. Whether you like her or not isn't your problem because she's about to die anyhow; her body isn't your concern, but if it passes out before you're done it won't help. Before you protest, let me remind you of your last failure to do as such. If she isn't already gone, your friend is well on her way to being a very corrupted soul. What you are about to do here and now is what you will do from now on. From this point onward, you do as I say, when I say it. You hesitate, and you can imagine what happens.'
Over the next several minutes, Jodice reluctantly followed the directions she was given to the word. Too exhausted to fight back anymore, the woman watched with ever-dimming eyes as her body was healed to the fullest extent that the makeshift remedies could provide. 'What'er ya doin'?' she finally managed to whisper, just loud enough to be heard over the rustle of leaves around them. "It's... complicated" was the only reply given, and the only one she needed. 'Wh....why'er ya helpin' me?' the woman pushed several times in various forms, but Jodice was too furious to answer. Finally, she pulled off one of the gauntlets the woman had been wearing, to which the woman had fits and protests but hadn't the energy to stop her.
Then, everything went black for both of them.
When she opened her eyes again, Jodice couldn't see in front of her, and began to panic until she felt a warm hand grasp her left arm, tugging her, insisting that she follow. "Perfect timing," Enia's voice stated as she yanked the girl through the darkness, though this time it was loud and clear, not the usual echo-in-her-mind sort of thing. "Where are we? Well, we're currently inside that girl's head, so to speak, although a bit lower than that. Your job right now is to keep her from becoming what Narhowen became; an Abomination, a soul bound to a demon but not devoured by one, although that soul has no free will of its own. Yes, I do know everything you're thinking, 'cause at one point I was thinking the same way. And before you state it and make yourself look stupid, no one deserves this sort of punishment."
Enia had Jodice read like an open book, obviously, so she kept her mouth shut and followed, passing by many strange things that seemed to jump out of the darkness around both of them. Instead of dragging her closer to the center, she was pulling Jodice away from it unwittingly, yanking the girl out of the way just as a few throwing daggers wizzed by, inches from her face. "These dives will be tedious at first, but once you get the hang of it, it won't be necessary to waste as much time keeping the person in question in good health.
"If you should ever live through everything that yer gonna be going through, then they'll happen practically on their own, without much effort from you. Sounds scary, I know - scared the willies out of me the first few times it happened automatically at first - but like everything else you get used to it. This is your crash course, as things on the outside are developing far too fast, so get used to the pacing. This is just the basics; the better stuff will come after the danger to this plane has passed. Oh, and please try to keep up."
"Like I can even get lost, with you gripping my arm like that!" Jodice twisted a bit, but the grip held, and she swore she felt her arm going numb. Just how strong was this woman? "You ain't gettin' lost, or rather I ain't lettin' you get lost, not on your first attempt. There'll be easier lessons, and some that'll be this fast and hard, or worse. Just grin and bear it, or die trying." "Thanks. Really needed a pep talk right now..." She knew that the woman was letting her run off like that, but it still felt good to be able to get a shot off once in a while.
"She's near." The sudden stop sent Jodice cartwheeling off her feet, but Enia still clutched her arm, only shifting enough to prevent the weight of Jodice's 'body' from tossing her off-balance, she unable to hear the ever-so-faint sobbing until she listened. "Quit screwing around,” Enia snapped, finally materializing before her child, “It’s time to make yourself useful." It was the first time she'd shown herself to Jodice, and the young woman could only gawk at the resemblance; except for the hawk-like stare she was giving right now, her fuller bosom, different clothes (including red armor plating w/ a full helmet, what appeared to be a silken war skirt, and engraved boots, all of it looking brand new) and a different hairstyle, the two could be mistaken for each other.
The two most outstanding differences were that her mother stood almost a full head taller than Jodice did, and her eyes shone a brilliant green. Of course, Jodice didn't notice most of that at first; her eyes sat uncomfortably upon the woman's chest, that sinking sensation girls get when they feel outmatched whelming up within her. Enia, assuming something was actually wrong, looked at herself momentarily before uttering a quiet and demanding "What?"
Snapping out of her momentary trance, she blushed, turning away. Enia scoffed, her ethereal form shimmering and fading slightly as the eye burn from such brightness appearing so suddenly in the dark wore off, then pulled Jodice forward regardless once she’d found her feet. “Keep your head, for all three of us. As I’m a resident of your body as well, not to mention no longer active, I can’t complete this task. It won’t be easy, not by a long shot. But its either this or another Abomination, so suck up whatever problems you have with her and try to make friends.”
By the gods, if Jodice wasn’t pissed off already, she was now. Before the hand even made it half-way, though, she was stopped, Enia verbally slapping some sense back into her as she lowered the hand with her own “Feel free to beat on me later, but focus right now. There won’t be a quiz if you f**k up, and if you manage not to, there’ll be no need for one.”
Sighing with resent in her voice, Jodice turned her head to face her, gulped back a knot forming in her as she asked “What’d I do when I get to her? Is there something I should say?” “You’ll know” was the only response she got before a nudge was given. Somehow she knew that was that, and anything more would be stalling. Pushing back her hair as well as her precognitions, Jodice pushed onward into the darkness, slipping from her mother’s hand without turning back as she followed the sounds through the black, instinct as her one and only guide.
*new post, ‘cause this is prolly pushing the limit of reader attention, as well as my own x-x*
