"Fair enough," Erin said. "But don't come crying to me when it falls apart." She made a few check marks, circled a few items, and signed her signature. She handed the paper over to the doctor. "There you go." She half smiled and opened another piece of Orbit, popping it into her mouth. Afterall, she had to have something to do since she quit smoking.
Lenny was sitting around the ER's EMS entrance, waiting for a call. It was still early, but he was surprised they weren't getting any calls from dispatch. He decided he'd go check in on the car crash patient from earlier. He saw her in her room, idly staring at something. "Hey," he said with a smile on his face. "How are ya feeling?"

Karina looked up at the voice, and returned Lenny's smile. "Not bad, just a little bored. I never knew hospitals could be this boring." She had forgotten that a friend of hers had been here not too long ago for a broken leg, and they were talking about all the white walls and how....desolate....everything seemed. "How long do you think I'll have to stay here while I recover?"

((Ok, I am bored of waiting for the surgery now. :S ))
Shane got up from his drugged sleep after some time. The headache had gone although he still remembered it and how bad it had been that time. He stood up waiting to see if the headache would come back but it didn't. He saw Duke working on his terminal. He kocked on the glass and smiled.
"I am kinda... just gonna be roaming around the place. Thanks for the morphine back then", he told him and almost ran out before Duke could saying anything. He just turned without thinking into a hallway but remembering how to get back if he had to. He looked around, into the rooms if he could as he walked past.
He was soon passing some the rooms where they put the patients. He peaked into one to see a small girl sleeping peacefully on the chair. He didn't think it was good to just barge into the girl's room so he moved on. As he kept walking ahead, he heard some people talking in one of the rooms. He knocked on the door before peeking in. He smiled when he saw the guy who he had met at the reception with a badly injured girl. Even though she was bandaged up, he could tell she was beautiful. The injuries had not hidden her figure and he realized been staring at her and hadn't said anything.
He kept smiling as he spoke, "Hey there. I just heard you guys talking and thought I will...uh...", he didn't really have a good reason to be there. "I am Shane. Can I ask, what happened to you?", he asked looking at the girl.

Why am I getting so much attention? Karina had met three, no, four people all in one day, and they all wanted to see how she was doing. "Well, the doctors say I got into a car crash, but I couldn't tell you whether they were right or wrong. I'm Karina, by the way."
Shane, was that his name? He seemed quite okay to her, but who knew? "Why are you here? Doesn't look like you've been in a car crash either, by the looks of the missing bandages." She was trying to make a simple joke, and hoped he would get it, not just think of it as a snide remark.

He smiled at the comment. "Nice to meet you Karina. I am here because...well I was roaming around the place because I got bored of waiting for my surgery. And I heard you guys talking in here, so came in to say hi. The surgery is because there is something wrong with my head... uh, I dont mean I am crazy or anything... hmm, its called an annuerism I think."
He had looked up trying to think of the term. He looked back at her before continuing, "Anyways, how long you gonna be staying in here?"

"A while," Jason said from behind Shane. He squeezed past the taller man -- neither of them was very wide, so he could get by without touching Shane -- and slipped into the room. "Hi, Karina. Results on your scan came back... I'll just pin them up here, then go over them with you when you have more privacy." He didn't want to embarrass her by telling her there was a slight chance of minor brain damage and surgery was a distant possibility in front of all these other people. He set them on the X-ray reader in the room and turned the light on so Karina -- and, more importantly, Lenny -- could see them.
"Doctor, or patient?" he asked Shane, who he hadn't met yet.

"That sucks. About the surgery, I mean." She was about to answer his last question when Jason walked in, and just by his body language it didn't look good to her. Karina watched him hang up the results, wondering what was good and what was bad. "Is it that bad?" She hoped it wasn't anything drastic, like a brain anuerism like Shane, but she doubted that. The worst could be like internal injuries or something done to her spine or nervous system.

Lenny looked at the images that the doctor put up. He could see the swelling of the frontal lobes, but wasn't sure what it implied. "patient," Lenny replied for the kid who had just showed up in the room. "And you really shouldn't be walking around with a Brain aneurysm."

Shane was surprised by Jason sneeking up on him from behind. As he walked past him, he could that sense that Jason wasn't happy about something. He guessed it was the result for Karina, but the tone was almost... hostile towards him. He looked from Jason to Karina and back.
Before he could answer, Lenny answered Jason. "Yes, I am a patient...", he added anyway,"and I get the hint I am not supposed to be here. I guess I will go back and find Duke." He turned around smiling. He saluted the two men and winked at Karina as he turned and walked out the door.
As he walked back the way he had come, he thought he stopped to peek into the small girl's room to see if she was still sleeping.

"Brain aneurysm?" Jason asked Lenny, raising an eyebrow as his chance to apologize to Shane evaporated... the boy was gone. "I'm supposed to be doing surgery on that kid in a couple of hours. What the hell is he doing wandering the corridors?"
He turned back to Karina. "You've got some swelling here in your frontal lobe," he told her. "We're not sure of the extent of the brain damage yet, but it's right in the motor cortex so I'm worried if we don't repair it surgically it might cripple you." Not good news, and he hated to deliver to someone he was very likely in love with, but that was the way the tortilla was crumbling for him today.
(OOC: Had tacos last night. Got tortillas on the brain.)

Her hope at possibly some good news crushed, Karina's face fell, then turned to slight worry. "I'll have trouble walking and stuff, is that what you mean? How bad is the extent of my accident injuries?

"Broken bones, which we can set and immobilize... a couple of them might require light physical therapy, but your limbs will make a full recovery in a few months at the most, probably sooner than that. The brain injury is the only worrisome part," Jason told her.
"As far as symptoms from the brain injury go, trouble walking is a possibility... there's also a chance that you'll develop a hand tremor or something else in your arms or hands that will make it difficult for you to feed and dress yourself, and you could experience a speech impediment of some sort as well. But that's all assuming that the swelling doesn't either A) go down naturally, or 2) get repaired surgically." He hoped, by switching from A to 2, to lighten the mood and maybe even get a laugh out of Karina, who was looking pretty down all of a sudden.

Dr. Martin walked into the room where Lenny and Jason and Karina were. "My God, York. This is a hospital, not a singles bar." he said, thumbing his nose. "Don't you have a surgery to prep for?" He looked at the images on the wall, then looked at the girl. "Don't you have two surgeries to prep for? Get the ball rolling." He walked out of the room to check on his patients.
Lenny looked at Dr. York as Dr. Martin left the room. "That's cold man, you let him treat you like that?" At that point his radio sounded off. "Hey, we finally got a call. I'll be back with some new playmates," he said. and rushed out to the ambulance.

Jason was about to tell Lenny that no, he didn't let Dr. Martin treat him like that, and that later on today something very bad was going to happen to the older doctor's car... but then Lenny took off, leaving him and Karina alone.
"I do, in fact, have a surgery to prep for," he told Karina. "But before I go, I want to leave you some reading material in case you get bored." He set the book Wendy had brought him along with his forgotten wallet -- Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings -- on the bedside table. He was actually kind of glad he had let her move in... she kept good track of him, and he was the sort of person who would forget his arms if they weren't attached. "It's one of my favorite series... not sure whether you're into the same stuff as me, but hopefully you'll like it. I'll get someone down here with consent forms so we can get your surgery scheduled, but I might be a few hours with this one." He got up to go and get ready for surgery.
(OOC: He's still in the room right now if Karina's got something else to say. And Poptart, you need to post in San Vina.)

Shane peeked in to see that the girl was still fast asleep. He started walking again back the way he had come, soon reaching Duke. "Hey Duke, I am back...", he said waving his arm at him.
