Doctor Martin walked into the MRI room's open door and looked at the tech. "What's the deal, Nukem?" He crossed his arms and waited.

Jason rolled his eyes. "We have a rather spoiled little girl here who likes to terrorize the staff. She's probably just reaming out one of the nurses about the bad food," he told Karina. "I'm going to just roll your bed into the CT room instead of sending for a wheelchair, since I don't know the extent of your injuries yet." He unlocked the wheels at the bottom of the bed, which had a safety when it wasn't supposed to be in motion, and rolled her out of the room to the CT lab. "Howdy," he said to the tech, whose name he couldn't immediately remember. Nukem must have been manning the MRI room today though, as this was somebody else. -------------------------------------------- "Sure," Duke said in response to Shane's invitation of a game. "Once we're sure you're in playing condition, we'll get you in some games... we've got a hoop mounted behind the hospital, a bunch of us play. Though you can probably kick most of the staff members' asses, since they're old and out of shape." He shook Shane's hand as the boy introduced himself, and said, "Nice to meet you. Duke Nukem... I mean, Johnson. 'Nukem' is a nickname some hardcore gamers stuck me with when I first started working here."
As Dr. Martin entered the room, Duke turned to face him. "There's something on this guy's scan. I figured you'd want to take a look," he said. "Symptoms include headaches and blackouts." He gestured to the MRI readout, which still showed the abnormal red area on Shane's scan.

Dr. Martin took a look at the MRI and thumbed his nose. The blackouts were no doubt due to increased brain pressure. look...got it. "What we've got here is one of the larger aneurysms I've seen in my time here. Let's get him back to his room, and we'll get him a surgical consult. Now, it's important we get this quick, Nukem. This thing's liable to burst at any moment." Seth Martin walked out of the room and made his way to the chief of surgery to schedule a Consult (OOC The chief of surgery can be anyone.)
Erin was unamused at the young doctor's chipper attitude. She twirled her locks of brown hair idly as the bed was wheeled in with a patient who clearly had seen better days. Erin decided it was either domestic abuse or a car accident. She didn't care which. "Save it," she said, turning towards the CT scanner and rolling her eyes. Erin helped the girl into the CT scan machine and told her to do her best to relax. "I can take it from here, doctor. I'll page you when I've got the results."

"Thanks, Erin," Jason said. "Take good care of her, okay? We go back a few years, Karina and I." He ordinarily would have remained behind to flirt uselessly with Erin, but there had never really been any point in it as she was way out of his league, and flirting with another woman in front of Karina would just be plain tacky. --------------------------------------------------------------- "Looks like we'll have to postpone that game," Duke said to Shane, sounding genuinely sad about it. "They're going to want to operate immediately, and though I have no doubt you'll survive the procedure, you'll be laid up for a while afterward." He really didn't doubt that Shane would survive... he was young, aside from the aneurysm a perfect picture of health, and if he played college ball could probably take some punishment. There was no reason to think that a skilled doctor would have trouble getting him through this procedure.
(OOC: I'm stumped for new character ideas today... if nobody's weighed in as the Chief of Surgery by tomorrow or Thursday, I'll put up a profile for him and post as him.)

"Don't worry, Dr. York. I'll be sure to violate the hospital's policy about equal treatment of all patients for you." Erin started the machine up. The machine began to whir as it began to take pictures of the girl's head. Erin popped a fresh piece of Orbit into her mouth and waited.
Lenny caught up with Dr. York as he was leaving the CT area. "So, what do ya think, doc?" He crossed his arms. This was his slow time, and he should have been catching some sleep before the calls started up and he spent the next 12 hours in the Truck, but something about this Karina girl was tugging at him; he needed to know she was safe.

"Operate?" He was shocked about the news. "I thought it was just a simple headache. Hey Duke, how long before I can go back to college again and play ball? The season is about to start and I hear the scouts are coming this time. I really don't want to miss the games..." He was sounding increasingly worried now. He wasn't expecting to be opened up when he came in only an hour ago!
He suddenly stopped talking, falling to his knees, holding his head in his hands. When he looked up at a surprised Duke, tears were following down his eyes. He shouted, "Ahh, its unbearable... Duke, do something!"

"She's pretty banged up, but I don't think anything's seriously wrong," Jason told Lenny, hoping this reassured the paramedic, who he had always gotten on rather well with. He looked back into the CT room briefly to see Erin slipping a pack of Orbit gum back into the pocket of her scrubs, and was reminded of Orbit spokeswoman Vanessa Branch. Only she's hotter than Vanessa Branch, he thought. Turning back to Lenny, he said, "Maybe she's got some broken bones, but it could be much worse." Jason hated auto traumas... most of them were far more badly injured than Karina was, and many of the accidents themselves could have been easily avoided by just hanging up the f**king phone. ----------------------------------- "sh**," Duke muttered under his breath. He had been about to give a long and what he hoped was reassuring description of the average recovery time for this surgery, when another headache struck Shane, seemingly worse than the previous one as he hadn't cried out before.
Duke helped Shane up and laid him back down on the bed-like surface outside the MRI machine, then said, "I'm not technically allowed to administer pain medication, but I keep some here for emergencies." He checked Shane's chart briefly -- no known allergies, good -- and then drew up some morphine, just a couple of cc's to take the edge off. As he stuck the needle in he said, "Don't let me forget I gave you this, Dr. Martin will want to know it's in your system."

As he felt the morphine enter his system, he could feel the pain subside immediately. He finally relaxed his body which had tensed up during the bout of pain. He said, "Thanks Duke..." and trailed off as he closed his eyes to rest a bit waiting for the surgery.

Kirika waited till the nurse left, then began working on the restraints. She wasn't very strong, given her age, but she was smart; using the metal spoon as a lever, she wedged the release open just enough for her to grab it, then stuck it in so that the release button was pressed when she strained to turn the spoon sideways. A few minutes later, she had the release open and was free.
Removing the thingies stuck to her, Kirika stuck them together and pulled the hospital gown closed, using a nearby tape dispenser to make sure it wasn't accidentally whipped open by a sudden draft. Peeking out the door to make sure no one was coming, she scuffled out the door, with Operation Ice Cream fully underway!
Turning a corner, she flattened against the wall (having watched too many spy movies during her short life, she knew exactly what to do), peeking around the corner to make sure there wasn't anyone else around... Keeping her footsteps as quiet as she could, Kirika held her nose as she passed a particularly smelly room, gagging a little after she'd passed, and headed in the general direction of where she thought the kitchen was...

Seth Martin was walking out of a patient's room. He'd just told the sap that she had Lupus. What a shame, too. All her brightest years were officially gone. Oh well, at least she didn't have something like ascending bowel cancer or organic brain demens--
And he saw the girl sneaking down the hall, doing a very poor Bond impersonation. As much as he'd like to let her go and ruin everyone else's day, the girl had been quarantined for a reason. He reached onto a passing cart that an orderly was pushing and grabbed a breathing mask and latex-free gloves. Snapping the mask onto his mouth, he began down the hall after the girl. "And just where do you think you're going, Kirika?"

Kirika squeaked, effectively ruining all surprise she'd been working up. She wanted to run away, but a coughing fit stopped her short after two steps... She started making whining noises, covering her mouth as she tried to stop the coughing in vain. "I just wanted... ice cream..." she mumbled out in-between coughs, feeling worse by the second...

"Ah, I see...Little kids are a pain sometimes." She felt a little weird as Jason rolled her down the hall and into the room, but thought she would be ridiculous saying so. Saying nothing as Erin did the scan, she merely waited until it was done, feeling very weird indeed with a strange maching whirring in the background. Hopefully, nothing horrible was truly wrong with her.
((ps...keep in mind I want Karina to stay in hospital for a couple weeks or more. just a heads up for those making all the scans and stuff. i don't care what's wrong, just so long as she can stay patient a bit longer.))

((yeah, i'm trying to find something that will require physical therapy or something))
Dr. Martin handed the girl a surgical mask. "Well all you had to do was ask someone," he said. Although the girl couldn't tell, he was feigning a smile. He put his arm around her and sheltered her back to her room. "Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?" he asked once he got the girl back in the room. "I'll bring you ice cream, but you have to promise to stay in your room, k?"

(Poptart, you might have missed it, but I asked in the planning thread how many characters I'm allowed to play in your Vampire: The Masquerade campaign.)
"No problem," Duke said, not realizing till he had finished speaking that Shane had drifted off. -------------------------------------------------- Jason's pager suddenly went off like an air raid siren. He pulled it out of his pocket, looked at the screen, and whistled. "I've gotta go help the old farts remove an aneurysm," he told Lenny, turning around and heading toward the surgical floor. He was actually older than Seth Martin, but referring to the good doctor and his ilk as 'old farts' was a good way to fit in with the other residents and make them forget how much older he was. Not to mention that Lenny would probably get a chuckle out of it, and he seemed like he could use a good laugh.

"But... but..." she began protesting, putting the mask on her face It was no fun having everything delivered to her, of course. She liked sneaking around, but she wasn't stupid; a coughing fit that could put her out wasn't something she could fight against. She clung for a second at the sight of the bed; at least he could leave her in the room without having to be on that ugly thing they called a 'bed'. Stuff was always hooked up to her tiny body, and it was always cold, the restraints hurt, and it just generally smelled funny. She didn't want to think about what may have happened there...
"Do I havta be in tha bed?" she whimpered, "It scawrs me!" Kirika clung tighter, tears trickling down her face; just looking at it scared her, the thought that she'd be restrained for that much longer here...
