He stopped smiling as the nurse walked in. He looked at Karina for a second as she asked him to leave. Looking back at the nurse, Shane smiled as she mentioned that he could come back. He nodded and said, "Thank you nurse." He then turned to Karina and winked, "You can bet on it, I'll be back." He then turned towards the door and walked out closing the door behind him after wishing goodnight.
He then walked back through the corridor. Time seemed to have passed by so quickly with Karina. Now he realized he was feeling tired and was just able to make it to his bed before falling on it and immediately falling asleep.
((Sorry for the rushed post but I see nothing going on at night in the hospital ))

Jason arrived back at the hospital, with some friends who ran a contracting business, around 12 AM. They quickly and carefully removed the sign with the hospital's name from the front of the building, and placed it in front of The Janitor's locker with a note taped to it that read: "Merry f**king Christmas. Love, Dr. York."
Jason knew he would get in trouble for this, but the opportunity to pull off such a great joke was worth it in his opinion. He went back home, caught some quick shuteye, and went into work a few minutes early to see what people made of the missing sign. He was actually a little disappointed that he got into the locker room and completely changed without encountering The Janitor... but he knew that soon enough the two of them would have words.
(OOC: Now we'll find out whether Roara's still following this thread.)

Karina smiled at Shane when he left, and watched the nurse fuss around with things, checking to see how she was doing. After she left, the girl slid down into the covers, and, surprised she was as tired as she was, fell into an untroubled sleep.
She was woken up sometime in the night by some banging around, but quickly fell asleep again, the sounds not having been loud enough to fully wake her unconcious mind.
((hopefully she's still on. it'll be weird when we'll have to ditch LJ in the island and everywhere else she's involved...))

(( Zyphan, Roara not Rosy ;D ))
Shane barely moved or heard anything as the commotion went on outside somewhere in the hospital. He had a surprisingly dreamless sleep. He woke up quiet early in the morning, as the clock in the room confirmed it was only 7 am. His friends always wondered how he was able to get up and make it to the 8 o'clock class on time everyday. He yawned loudly then held his bandage as he felt a slight tinge on the wound after opening his jaws too far across.

Jason left the locker room and started out on his morning rounds. He realized that taking the sign down had done nothing to remove that accursed Beatles song from his head, and found himself singing "Hey Jude" quietly under his breath as he made his way to Shane's room.
He wanted to check on the patient with the active infection first... Karina actually seemed to be less critical, despite the greater overall extent of her injuries. Of course, that was from a medical standpoint... the temptation to rush to Karina's room instead had been strong, but that had been for personal reasons that had little to do with how badly hurt she was. He heard movement inside the room, and knocked on the door instead of just barging in. If the young man was awake, he deserved a little common courtesy.

((oops. my bad.))
Karina didn't want to open her eyes, yet the light coming through the windows was preventing her from drifting back to unconciousness. Grudgingly, she finally opened her eyes and glanced at the clock- seven thirty. Wow. Must be the meds or something. I usually never wake up this early, She thought as she tried to sit up higher in the bed, but her muscles were stiff and she could feel little stabs of pain everywhere.
She wondered for a bit whether Shane was up, but she decided that he would come when he could. Seeing the book again, Karina picked it up and began where she left off, once again getting lost in the plot.

Shane looked towards the door and could see Dr. York standing outside his room through the small section of the door that had glass fitted in it. He spoke, "Come in... good morning Doc!", cheerfully remembering the time he had had with karina yesterday evening. He decided not to say anything to Jason as he didn't really think there was anything to tell him.
"Really Doc, you already here. I didn't take you for a workaholic...", he added to his greeting, grinning.

"I'm not usually, but I had some things to get done so I came in early today," Jason replied as he entered the room. He checked Shane's chart for new notes... he was due for his next dose of antibiotics, so Jason had a nurse bring some in with a glass of water.
"So, what about you? Did you and Karina have fun last night?" he asked in a neutral tone. He didn't have to expend much effort keeping jealousy out of his voice... though he did still have feelings for Karina, she was no longer with him, and if she wanted to see someone else he wasn't going to try and stop her. Those guys who treated women like property had always bugged the sh** out of him... he just hoped Shane wasn't like that.

"Well Doc, I just want to say that even though I am not too happy about being in the hospital when I should be on the court trying to woo scouts, I would hanging out with Karina has certainly kept me out of the depression I would have gone into considering the problems waiting for me outside. She is a life saver to me right now and hell man, no offense, and you probably had good reason, but I don't know why you didn't try to make it work between you both. I mean, I have only spent a few hours with her but yeah, she would need a restraining order to keep me away from her now...", he grinned to show he wasn't completely serious about the last part.
"We were just playing cards till one of the nurses came in and shooed me away from the room. So, what will it be today Doc, shots, drips or pills? Oh and if I have your permission... as my doctor, can I go see Karina when we are done?", he bombarded Jason with all his questions at once.

"Sure," Jason said. "Unless one of my superiors overrides me on that -- or one of her doctors has a problem -- you can hang out with Karina until visiting hours are over. As far as your medication goes... we'll keep giving you morphine as needed, unless you feel like you're feeling good enough to take something slightly less strong, and of course we'll be keeping you on the antibiotics. As long as you don't have any trouble walking, you can move around as you wish. I'd suggest not spending so much time with Karina that she actually does take out a restraining order, though... even women need their space sometimes. That's the only reason I work... my current girlfriend would shoot me in the face if I hung around her all the time."

"Oh...ok... Alright...", he said nodding as he told him about the dosage and then his girlfriend. He was actually some what glad to hear that Jason had a girlfriend. "Thanks for the tip Doc...", he added later grinning. "I think I don't need morphine anymore, something softer... should be ok. So lets get the thing over with I guess...", he said. He was getting a bit impatient and wanted to go see Karina again.

"All right, I'll write you a prescription for the Tylenol/codeine mixture we use to wean people off of morphine," Jason said. "It's slightly weaker than the morphine, and an oral medication instead of an IV drug, but it'll still keep you pain-free if you really feel as good as you say." He hoped Shane did really feel that good... it was difficult to tell sometimes with young men, as their pride often got in the way of the truth. Still, this one seemed to have a good head on his shoulders, and probably knew better than to lie to his doctor if he wasn't completely comfortable.
Jason wrote the prescription, jotted down directions to the hospital's pharmacy on the back, and said, "Take this to the pharmacy, they'll fill the prescription right there in front of you. Take two pills as soon as you have the bottle in your hand, and then one more in about... eight hours. If you start to feel any sort of significant pain before your second dose, take two pills for your second dose instead of one. If you have any sort of bad reaction to the medication, hit the nearest call button... or, if the phone's closer, page me using the number on the back of that prescription pad. Once you've got your pills, you can head back up and see Karina... I should be out of her room by then, though I do have to stop in and check on her once I'm done with you. Will you be needing anything else?"

"Gotcha Doc. I will give you a call if the pain becomes too much to handle. I guess I will see you later.", he said with a smile thankful for the change in prescription. He walked out of the room while trying to comprehend the writing of the doctor and gave up after a few yards in the corridor. He wondered how much this was gonna cost him.

Jason hit Karina's room next. He knocked before entering, as he had with Shane, to make sure that she was decent. When he stepped into the room, he saw that she was already awake and reading. He grabbed her chart from its slot on the foot of the bed, and flipped it open to see if any of the night-shift staff had made any notes. Karina had apparently had an uneventful night. He nodded in a satisfied sort of way, then asked her, "Did I make a good choice with that book? I wasn't sure what you liked, so I just randomly picked one out of my home library." He hoped she liked it okay... if you weren't a fantasy geek like Jason, it was kind of hard to get into at first, at least until the pace picked up and the one-liners started flying.

Karina looked up as Jason knocked, and smiled. "Yeah, the book's great. It works great to get the mind away from this dreary place." She set it down, and looked up. "Is there anything special planned for me or am I just set for bed rest until I can get better?" She knew she had the scan done the day before, but she wasn't sure, like one of the other docs said, if she would have full control of her legs again. If that was the case and she would have to stay for physical therapy, then hopefully Shane would be able to come in and stay with her or something.
