((that sucks. glad to have you back, though))
"I'll show you and O'Connell where I got the fruit when he comes back, if you want. There's still lots more where this came from, and I there was something else there, too, but I couldn't explore any further due to my ankle."

No sign of her. O'Connell was beginning to be worried. He took a few deep breaths. Maybe she drowned he thought, futiley. He knew that Kassia could swim like a fish. Sully cracked his neck and returned to the doctor and the girl. "No luck so far," he said. "How's her ankle?"

(Thanks.)
"I think it might be broken," Jason told O'Connell. "I'm not too good at outdoors stuff... any chance you could help me make her a splint?" He hoped the ex-Marine's first-aid training extended that far.

"sure," he said. "got any Ace bandage?" He immediately began looking for two pieces of flat wood or metal to use. All the while he kept his eyes out, hoping to hell that she wasn't out there. Hoping futily.
She awoke, looking around. Her stomach was growling, and she had a headache. She tried hard to remember...
O'Connell. A name. A name on a god-forsaken island. There was wreckage everywhere. She had been on a plane. She was going...somewhere.
Kassia's brain hurt. She had thought enough for now. Time for food. She looked around at the bodies everywhere. Such a selection... An evil smirk flashed across her face for an instant, then nothing.

Jason dug an Ace bandage out of the FAK. "Here you go," he said to O'Connell. Still wanting to search the plane before dark, he looked at his watch. The face was cracked, and the hands had stopped moving. "So much for taking a licking and keeping on ticking," he muttered, taking off the watch and throwing it aside in disgust.

O'Connell placed two flat pieces of metal on either side of Karina's swollen ankle, then wrapped the Ace tightly around it, covering the sharp edges with extra care. "Be very careful on that, it's not exactly Doctor approved," he said. He tried his best to control it, but found himself looking around nervously, in spite of his best efforts.

Jason inspected the splint, which was actually quite well made, and nodded. The sharp edges were going to be tricky, but O'Connell had gone out of his way to make them less so, and Jason's respect for the air marshal rose another level. Not the biggest people person on his best day, he sucked at reading them, so he completely missed anything that might have been off about O'Connell's behavior.
"I'm gonna need your help searching the wreckage," he said, including Karina in that statement as well, as long as she was up to it. "I'm hoping to find something we can use -- bottled water, extra first-aid supplies, food, maybe a sewing kit so I can suture that gash on your leg." He looked meaningfully at the bandage on O'Connell's leg -- the wound might get infected if it wasn't sewn shut to protect it from the less than civilized environment.

Karina inspected the splint, and she was quite happy about it. Walking would be tricky for long periods of time, but she would manage.
"I can help, no biggie. Should we split up? It would be easier, but if night comes and that thing comes again, we shouldn't be seperated."

"NO!" Sully said, more forcefully than he'd meant to. "No, we should stay together," he said. "I can help you walk, if you need."
Kassia cracked her neck and wiped her mouth off. Her belly was full, and some unlucky cadaver's arm was reduced to bone. It would have been almost erotic to her, but most civilized people would say that Kassia lacked that particular capacity. She made love like a black widow. She looked around, surveying her immediate surroundings. Her ears perked up, as she heard a shout in the distance. Warm ones; how nice...

"He's right," Jason said. "If this island has wolves, there's no telling what else it has."
He stood up in preparation to go toward the plane, but waited for the others to follow. He looked toward the beach again, and immediately regretted it -- he could very clearly see a shark lunge forward and take a bite out of one of the bodies in the water. Shuddering, he turned away.

"Thanks, O'Connell." She surveyed the beach from where they stood, plane wreckage and dead passengers everywhere. "So...where do we start?"

O'Connell looked at the rising sun. "we should head west, and then move east in the afternoon, keeping the sun to our back." he said. And started off down the beach westward.

Jason followed O'Connell, walking close to Karina in case she needed help. Between the splint and the stick she had been using for a cane, she should be okay, but he wanted to make sure. He found a mirror on one of the bodies -- it was cracked in the middle, but it would do the trick. Checking out the dried blood on the side of his head and using a tongue depressor from the FAK to scrape it off, he decided the wound wasn't really all that bad -- just a scratch. Head wounds bleed a lot, so it looked worse than it was, but he had been lucky. He applied some Neosporin and a Band-aid, discarded the now less-than-sterile tongue depressor, then moved on.
"Something just occured to me," he said to O'Connell. "We'll need to hunt for food. Which means we need weapons. You're better at that sort of thing than I am -- what kind of things are people allowed to bring on planes these days that we can use to take down, say, a boar?"

O'Connell smirked. "In a post 9/11 world? nothing," he said. "Hopefully the primers on my bullets will dry out and still be useful. Until then, we can live off of the plants here. Maybe make some spears and try to catch fish."
And he saw her. And his heart sank.
Kassia peered out over the wreckage of the plane. She knew he had seen her. No worries, just be civil she thought. She made her way over the wreckage, toward the group. "Good, survivors," she said with a smile.

Karina smiled, glad to see she wasn't the only female who survived the crash.
"Hey. I'm Karina. Glad to see you're still in one piece."
