"Sandy come on, go outside for a bit, the sunshine is good for you." Ben called from their large back yard.
"Yeah, that's why it causes skin cancer. No thank you. I'll stick to the treadmill and personal gym we have, not go running in that death trap." Sandy rolled her eyes as she looked for a cd to put in her cd player.
"you're just a chicken." he egged her on.
"Benny boy, I am no chicken, and you trying to coax me outside, won't work, so bug off." she found her cd and turned on her cd player, blaring the music as she put the head phones on.
Her brother just sighed and did his own thing in the yard as Sandy climbed on the treadmill.
She had it on a light run, only breaking a light sweat.
Sandy had zoned out and Ben was doing his own exercises outside.
Then after the brief workouts it was back to lazing about the house, watching tv, and eating junk food. With no parents around, they really didn't care much what they did.
But neither of them noticed the person that came into their house.
He was standing in the room Sandy was in, and it took her a bit to notice him, just seeing something out of the corner of her eyes.
She finally turned her head and her eyes widened when she saw a guy standing there.
Sandy stumbled and tripped on the treadmill, her cd player fell to the floor and broke, but Sandy wasn't paying attention to that.
She was reaching up to pull herself up onto her feet before her pants got caught in the treadmill.
But before she could, the guy had grabbed her by the arm and pulled her up, turning off the machine.
Ben heard the crash of Sandy's cd player, and came inside to see what it was.
He glared at the guy still holding his sister by the arm. His sister just looked at the guy dumbstruck.

Andrew, an apprentice mage, was sitting at home waiting for the expected call. It was already 3 hours late and his patience was wearing thin.
"Patience is a virtue Andrew," he was often told by his teacher. "Magic uses a lot of emotions, you cant get overexcited or you'll lose control."
"Patience!?" he said out loud to himself. "How can I be patient for 3 hours?"
The young man jumped up off the couch and grabbed his sage's robe. He wrapped the silk, lavender cloth around him and pushed his arms into the long sleeves. The robe was adorned with dark blue lines runing along the length of each arm on the outside and the outline of a six point star on the back. He ran through the door, barely able to grab his belt and tied it around his waist then headed towards their residence.
He hadnt noticed ben outside and just let himself in as if it was his own home but jumped when he saw a girl on the treadmill. Apparently, she was just as startled and fell, gettign caught in the device and was about to get pulled in when he ran to her and pulled her up then turned off the machine.
"You ok?" he asked, not too sure what kind of welcome he'd recieve.

"um... y-yeah..." she looked at him confused.
"hey, who the hell are you?" Ben walked over to them and stepped between his sister and the guy.
"and what do you think you're doing in our home?" he continued glaring at the guy.

Andrew looked up at Ben surprised and stepped away from the angry glare.
'Their home?' he thought. 'Clearly the wrong place.'
"I'm sorry," said with a bow. "I think I may have taken a wrong turn. I was looking for the Chrowler residence."
He stood straight up and shifted his eyes between the two intermittently. Their similarities couldn't be ignored but his mind was already occupied with finding his teachers.
"Do you know where I can find it?"

"you're there... we're Ben and Sandy Chrowler... if you're looking for our parents, they aren't here. Haven't been for like... a month." Sandy peeked out from behind her brother, not really caring that their parents were still gone.

Andrew frowned at those words. They didnt tell him that they would be away, and especially when he was finally on holdidays. He leaned to the right and smiled at Sandy for just a moment then looked back at Ben with a serious stare.
"Any ideas when they'll be returning? My class is, or rather was, supposed to begin 3 hours ago."
He tapped his fingers impatiently against his blue jeans and for a moment he tried to contain his impatience lest that accident occur again. Last time he got this worked up he turned a table into a fireball.
"So um.." he interrupted before they could respond. "How are you two related? To the Chrowlers I mean."

"I just said we're their kids. This grouch is Ben, my little brother of 2 minutes, and I'm Sandy. I'm the nice one." she chuckled, tapping Ben's arm.
Ben rolled his eyes. "we don't know when they'll get back. They said they'd only be gone a week or two, but it's been a little over a month now."
"hey, fine with me. I like this whole home alone thing." Sandy went and picked up her broken cd player.
"yeah, that's just cause you and mom are going at it right now and you refuse to talk to her." he kicked her lightly.
She stuck her tongue out at him and took her cd out of the player before throwing the broken cd player away.

Andy listened to their bickering and shook his head. How could twins behave this way? It made no sense to him since he was an only child.
"Hm..a week eh?" he rubbed the bottom of his chin for a moment while getting lost in thought. "I wonder where they went t-"
He suddenly shook his head quickly and stared at the two in shock. What they said earlier had taken this long just to register in his mind.
"W-What!?"
His eyes moved between the two, looking at their facial features and realised that they did kinda look like his teachers.
"They had children!?"

"um... yeah... they've had children for 18 years now..." Ben looked at the guy, cocking an eyebrow.
"I said it twice." Sandy shook her head and sat down in a chair.

"Really funny," he retorted. "I just wasnt paying attention is all."
This sucked. The most powerful mages he knew of, actually...the only mages he knew of, had children? Theres no telling how powerful those two were. They could have been learning magic from age 5 for all he knew. This situation did present an opportunity though, maybe he could get his hands on the restricted spell books their mother kept away from him.
"Would you happen to know where they keep their notes?" he asked to begin his deception. "I'd like to brush up on the minor spells they were teaching me. Just to keep my memory fresh and stuff."

"notes?" Ben looked at him confused.
"spells?" Sandy looked at him just as confused.
"what are you talking about?" they both said simultaneously.

He almost collapsed from the laughter. The looks on their faces were just priceless!
"Man. I wish I had a camera."
He wiped a tear away from his right eye and slowed his laughter to a chuckle. This had to be a joke.
"No seriously. Cant you tell me where they hid those books?"

"what books? the only books our parents have are dictionaries and encyclopedias." Ben spoke to the guy, who still hadn't introduced himself, and Sandy just watched confused.

Andy's face contorted into a frown. This wasnt funny anymore. This could be his only chance to take a look at them and these two were hiding it from him?
"Fine then," he said in an annoyed tone. "Be that way. I bet once I'm gone you two'll be digging through them and learning who knows what kinds of skills."
His impatience and anxiety got the better of him and he started to tap the tip of his toes against the ground behind him, all the while his hair was slowly turning to its unusual white hue.
"Guess I'll just have to wait then. How long do they normally stay away for?"

"I don't know... they don't usually go away..." Ben backed up a bit, looking at the guys hair, and Sandy's eyes widened as well.
They didn't know what the hell was going on.
