Many a time a slight change can be felt in the air, and on this morning a young man could feel it in his bones as he left his family home exiting through the front gate. As he closed the wooden gate door he traced his hand over the symbol of his family, the Okami name mixed with the kanji for flame.
"Fire dog," he smiled as he balled up his fist and punched the symbol. This day he felt a change in the air, he smiled almost maliciously anticipating a change the old doldrum of this mundane routine. Perhaps he would actually talk to one of the other kids of the other families, he just wanted something to change.
He turned and through his school bag over his shoulder dressed in his school uniform, black standard Japanese school suit. He didn't like black but it would do. He wore his red sleeveless shirt underneath the coat to add a splash of color, after he was no shadow.
He moved one foot in front of the other heading toward his school actually going to be on time for once, who was he kidding he knew he would be early. That worked perfect for him, no class representative to jump down his throat about being tardy all the time. Yet...that feeling of his felt partly ominous and yet exhilarating.

"I'm sorry, Smoke, but you have to stay. Please don't fight me."
For the twentieth time, Jeschaal tried to make the little black fuzzball stay put on her bed, but with a mew of complaint, the kitten jumped off and climbed back into her leather satchel.
"Hurry up, Jeschaal! You're going to be late if you wait around much longer!" Her mother's voice echoed up the stairs, reminding her daughter she needed to get going. Sighing, Jeschaal hollered back, "Coming, Mom!"
She gathered up the rest of her books and her satchel, being careful not to squish the mischievous Smoke. "You better behave, Smoke, or mom will have both of our hides if she finds out!" A muted meow was heard from within the bag, and then he was silent.
Skipping down the stairs, Jeschaal grabbed the bagel from her mom's proffered hand, mumbling "Thanks" as she took a bite. "Go straight to school, hun. No more critter stops, okay?" Distractedly, Jeschaal nodded and headed out the door, the screen slamming behind her.
With a whinny and nicker, the seven horses that belonged to the Nayreem family cantered towards the young girl as she began her walk down the long drive, and she handed out carrots and apples (of which she also snuck out) to the hungry mouths.
Not surprisingly, as she turned onto the main road towards school, the young girl's mind wasn't set at all on school.

By the time Noel's alarm clock went off, she was already awake and halfway dressed. She had always been an early riser and today was no exception. With a sigh, she turned off the alarm and reached for her boots. She had been told repeatedly by the principal that her fur lined boots were not acceptable footwear but there was no way she was leaving the house without them. It was bad enough she had to freeze halfway to death in the uniform's skirt.
She shuffled into the kitchen. Her father was sitting at the kitchen table, reading a newspaper absentmindedly while her mother was cooking at the stove. Wordlessly, Noel took her seat to the left of her father. Complete silence. A few minutes later Noel's mother handed her and her father a plate of scrambled eggs and took her seat across from Noel's father. The silence was accented by the sound of forks scraping across plates and the occasional shuffle of the newspaper.
When Noel finished, she took her plate to the sink and rinsed it off. She glanced at the clock. If she left now, she would be a half hour early for class. Better at school than here. she thought to herself.
"I'm leaving now," she said, grabbing a light coat and her bookbag. The temperature was reasonable outside, but Noel knew she would be cold. Her mother nodded at her. Her father didn't look up from his newspaper, but said, "Come straight home. We have things to discuss."
Noel grimaced and exited the house, closing the door quietly as she went. Discussions with her father were never enjoyable. She slowly started down the road, crossing her arms to help keep warm.

Lenore woke up late like usual, sleeping through her alarm again. Her mom had to yell and wake her up for breakfast, by then she really didn't have a lot of time before she had to leave for school. With a groan she rolled out of bed and grabbed the first thing she saw in her closet and got dressed.
This happened every day, but she never seemed to get used to it. She just never seemed able to wake up on time, no matter when she went to bed. So like every other day, she rushed to get dressed and ran downstairs for breakfast. Lenore didn't have time to finish it but it was ok with her.
When she had her school bag and cleaned up a bit, she hurried and ran out of the house, sprinting to school. She may always wake up late, but she'd never been late to school and didn't plan to start. The skirt of her school uniform used to make it awkward to run, but then she just learned to wear shorts underneath and it fixed everything.
She ran quickly and it wasn't long before she saw the school grounds come into view, but she kept the same pace till she was practically inside the building.

*well, here goes nothing X-x*
~BREEE! BREEE! BREEE! BREEE! BREEE! BREEE! BREEE!~
Blasted alarm clock... A hand reached out, attempting haphazardly to silence the bloody thing, missing several times. About the fourth or fifth time, though, Mercutio finally succeeded, lazily crawling out of bed with a massive yawn, scratching several places inappropriately before finally looking at the time... and then realized that he had exactly six-and-a-half minutes to make a ten-something trip to school. Swearing loudly in several languages, he was up and dressed in thirty seconds flat, rushing to the bathroom in vain hopes that he could partially tame the wild shrubbery that was his hair. Once it was affirmed that Nero had no control over the blasted thing (another thirty seconds wasted), he was out the door and running, backpack flailing behind him like a club-laden banner.
Just to clear a few things up, it wasn't that he cared about being late. Fact was, he barely cared about his grades, so long as he passed with a C or higher; the only real thing he cared about were the parties he attended after school was out. No, it was more or less the fact that he had been late so often that the teachers were beginning to notice his grades slipping... and the fact that his 'parents' (a word Nero used to loosely define those people that had, or were, raised him) stated that he would be grounded if he was ever late again this semester. But the young man had other thing on his mind - such as wooing that cute senior girl sitting in the third seat from the far wall at the front of class during his third class, maybe taking her out for something to eat after school, even though half the other girls had turned him down "to study". Seriously, this country needed to get it's priorities straight - or maybe he needed to.
Dodging traffic and pedestrians alike, Nero got stares from everyone as he passed by, not that he cared anymore; having learned long ago that these people were paranoid of anyone who didn't look like they did, he'd stopped caring about what they thought, especially at times like this. Stupid school uniform... why did they have to tailor these d**ned things to be so tight?! He could barely breath in it, let alone the fact that it was hugging his manhood just a little too close. And on top of that, all these school 'inspections' expected everyone to have their clothes all nice and neat and everything. Seriously, it's school, not a freaking office! Just more frustrating things to worry about.
Cutting across several fenced-off backyards to knock off a minute or two, he stopped momentarily to assess the situation upon reaching an alleyway. Pulling out the fancy-ass phone he got when he arrived here, Mercutio figured from the GPS that he was still a good three or minutes away. Great, just great. If the neighbors called the police, he wouldn't be one bit surprised, or blame them. Still, he had to at least be through the front doors before the last bell rang; one more tardy and he would have to repeat another year, a most unpleasant proposition. So authorities be darned, he would make it there on time, one way or another.

Shinnon was racing down the mainstreet towards the school with all his thoughts focused on that feeling before and as expected the closer he got to the school the stronger it got. It was like a pull deep within his gut telling him to get his arse to the building of unrelenting torture, i.e. the school itself.
Suddenly just as he felt the pull in his stomach lurch forward just as a young girl came out onto the main road. That was the only impression that he had before he collided head on with her and hit his head on hers.
He fell to the ground hard, clutching his skull as he sat up a look of anger in his eyes as started,"What in the blazes do you think you are doing?!!!! Scatterbrain! I about...." he trailed off as he got a good look at her for the first time and noticed she was wearing the girl school uniform from his "distinguished institution."
He shook his head shakely..."Ummm are you alright..."

Jeschaal wasn't paying much attention at all to where she was going, until pounding footsteps brought her to her senses, and she turned just in time to see a young man running full force- straight into her!
Their heads collided, and they both went sprawling, and then the young man was yelling angrily at Jeschaal. "I-I'm sorry!" Was all she got out before he took on a gentler tone. "Ummm are you alright...?" Her head pounding, Jeschaal had to fight away a sense of dizziness. "I think so... My head hurts though..."
"Mew," a muffled meow came from the bag at her side, and Jeschaal quickly opened it up, to find Smoke unscathed, but startled, inside. "You okay, sweetie? Sorry about that."
She looked back up at the young man with her ruby eyes, still a little dazed. "Are you okay? We collided pretty hard..."

Noel was one of the first students to arrive at the school. She was so early that some of the teachers still hadn't arrived yet. She went to her locker, got her books and started for her homeroom class, but was stopped by one teacher she didn't particularly get along with.
"Miss Rigentes," she said, crossing her arms, "You've been told multiple times that your choice in footwear is a violation of the school dress code."
Noel looked down at her boots. The school dress code called for black flats for girls, which her boots clearly weren't. Of course she had a few pairs of flats but she never wore them.
Before she had a chance to respond, the teacher continued, "I am growing tired of correcting you on your infraction. Report to the principal's office and explain to him why you refuse to follow the dress code."
The teacher continued her way down the hallway. Noel stood for a second, then threw her books back into her locker with a groan and started for the office.

Lenore made it to the school and slowed to a walk as she got inside the building. She panted slightly but soon calmed down as she got to her locker, getting whatever she needed before going to class.
She didn't so much as she got to class and got out her notebook, not talking to anybody.

Breezing past two students having a conversation about half a block from the school entrance - Mercutio had to refrain from staring at the redhead for too long - he slipped through a side gate that happened to be open, dodged trees (though a few roots tripped him up more than once), vaulted over several shrubberies and a bike railing, and slipped through the door just as the bell rang. Racing for his locker, he had just made it to the silly thing when he remembered that his algebra homework was still at home, actually finished for once. Well, at least they couldn't beat on him for being late - not that it was going to save his grade or anything.
Sighing, he still somehow managed to sneak into his first class without being noticed by the current teacher, though more than a few fellow students were giving him the stink-eye. instead of yelling or giving them the finger, Nero just gave them a tough-guy sneer, taking his seat behind a girl with striking jet-black hair just as the teach turned around. Pulling the annoyingly-large text book out, he set it down as carefully as he could, opening it to the last page he could remember it being on.
*taking a few liberties here... tell me if I get something wrong x-x*

((Might be too early to start the school day, seeing as some of the characters haven't made it to the building yet. Should be fine though.))
Noel walked into her classroom, with a detention slip in one hand and her books in the other. She was very frustrated by the whole thing, but her face displayed no emotion. The principal decided to give Noel a detention because this was the seventh time a teacher complained about her shoes and, as the principal stated, "it is explained clearly in the student handbook which shoes are appropriate and which are not."
She slipped into an open seat towards the front of the room and placed her books on the desk, slipping her detention slip into one. Then she unbuttoned her coat, but didn't take it off. She knew some of the students were staring at her, but she didn't care; she was freezing.
I'm going to have to call home at lunch she thought as she flipped the book to appropriate chapter. Who's clever idea was it to have after-school detentions? ((FIIILLER lol))

Lenores eyes wandered to the guy who snuck into the class as he took a seat behind her. She sighed softly, this kid again...

Shinnon was a little startled when she address the bag not knowing what was inside, though as he looked her over and caught sight of her ruby eyes his mind went to the rumors he had heard of a student in the school who had a fascination bordering on fanatacism for animals of all shapes and sizes often showing up to school with some sort of furry friend or another.
He scratched his head as he thought,'So this is the one that they talk about with all the pets...she seems normal enough I don't see what all the fuss is.'
He extended his hand and helped her up gingerly and smile, soemthing he was surprised he did considering he wasn't accustomed to it.
"I'm alright," he said as he rubbed his head,"Your head has got to be as hard as mine and trust me that's saying something..." he continued as his cell suddenly went off reminding him of the time and he freaked...
"CRAP!!!!" he said as he looked it over, he had thought he was going to be on time but the run in with the cute girl had threw him off..."We're going to be late...."
He grabbed her hand and practically picked her up as without realizing it he dashed towards the school, he generating from the bottoms of his feet causing him to heat the air as he hit the ground causing a sort of bounce with each step finally seeming like he was running faster than humanly possible...
It wasn't long till they got to the school gates and he calmed down completely unaware of what he had done until he would take off his shoes of course. He had let go of her hand at the gate and left her in a rush apologizing for bumping into her and was chargrinned to see his shoes in the mess they were. The soles of them completely melted...he changed into his school shoes from his locker and got to his class not quite late but sneaking into the room just in case he had to deal with that loud mouth teacher of his again. He didn't want to burn up any more clothes...

Jeschaal gave him a smile when he helped her up, and put Smoke back into her satchel. She glanced at his phone, and she panicked when she saw the time, too, although what he did next astounded and surprised her.
The young girl did her best to keep up, although she realized she had heard something of this kid, who always lit things on fire, though they had never had any classes together. When he left her at the front doors, she stood for a second, watching him run off, before Smoke's little meow brought her to her senses and she too, rushed to class, being careful of the kitten as she took her seat. Though the teacher ignored the previous late-comers, Jeschaal wasn't spared as the teacher noticed her entrance.
"So nice of you to finally join us, Ms. Jeschaal. Stay after class, if you would, please."
With a simple nod, Jeschaal, red-faced, silently took her seat and pulled out her book, pushing a curious Smoke back into her bag.

Shinnon could have swore that one of the students caught him coming in, but he paid little attention to as he had scorched his shoes AGAIN! His father was going to freaking kill him if he found out he needed a new pair of shoes. However, he just looked at it as an excuse for him to use some of his own money he had been saving to buy something aside from "Traditional" shoes. They never lasted too long with him....
"Mr.Okami, would you please like to explain to the rest of the class what you find so amusing about the overthrow of the Shogunate...hmmm," he heard snapping out of his reverie and growled without realising it.
He had been smiling at the prospect of upsetting his father and actually being able to get something he wanted for once and him being lost in thought had apparently come at a very inoppurtune time. The teacher seemed to be glaring at him, he knew she hated being interrupted let along ignored.
"I'm sorry Ms. Suzumiya...I...wasn't really paying attention," he said not caring where this was going. She sighed as she adjusted her glasses.
"Mr.Okami, I decided to overlook your tardy today and cut you a little slack but then you decide to completely ignore my lesson and daydream. See me aftershool today. Maybe a little time cleaning the erasers will help you learn priorities," she said out loud scolding him in front of the rest of the class. Shinnon growled again low in his throat but it worked well to his plan. A little extra time today to find the others, if he looked hard enough....
