Suddenly, she was out of the water and onto the floor once more, coughing up the water her body had just taken in with heaving breaths that pained her like nothing before. The cold snap hit her like a wet fish to the face; she instantly sought out warmth, and the closest source was the one who was holding her now. Moving with surprising speed and strength, she latched her arms around his neck, pulling herself as close to him as she could, accidentally knocking him down in the process. Her body shivered as the cold washed over her in waves, making her head hurt as she whimpered from being completely naked and wet against this freezing wave.
Valera watched the entire spectacle and had to cover her mouth to keep her laugh from becoming too audible. The entire proceeding was just too funny for her not to laugh; this lady was almost child-like in her approach, clinging to the man like he was one big pole. Knowing that he had to be uncomfortable by now, she whistled loudly to catch the other woman's attention. If she could distract her, then maybe she could calm her down enough that they could get her into something decent enough, though her own suit was out of the question, considering the slimy mess that was now inside it...
She heard the whistle, and saw the one that looked somewhat like herself beaconing for her. She responded with a worried cry at first, but then let go of the awkward man and slowly crawled over to the lady. She felt warmer anyways, and that's exactly what she wanted...
Valera guided the girl onto herself, letting her body rest against her own as much as she could while avoiding her bad leg. She was obviously cold, and was looking for a source of heat to warm her body with. Grabbing a blanket off a dresser nearby, she whipped it around and over both of them, hiding the girl's nude form as it captured the body heat between the two, quickly raising the temperature somewhere between uncomfortable and excruciating for Valera. But the girl relaxed instantly, resorting to soft, acknowledging head rubs against Valera's neck and insistent purrs, much akin to a cat she thought...
She herself let her hand slide to the woman's back, rubbing it gently in hopes of further calming the girl. And it worked; within a minute or so, she was fast asleep, her mouth opening and closing with soft, hot breaths down Valera's back. It was actually relaxing for her too, in a way, as the girl's body was like a heat-magnet, soaking in what would otherwise become sweat-inducing warmth from Valera's own body into hers. Once she was very sure the girl was asleep and wouldn't be waking up anytime soon, she gripped her firmly, able to feel her heartbeat, and even the blood pumping through her various vessels under the skin...
The heartbeat was what alerted Valera to the fact that something was amiss... it was faster than even her own, possibly why she was recovering so fast. And it was somewhat irregular, though not consistently so, much like her own... Now, there was no doubt in her mind; Valera had found a living goddess, albeit one with a possibly irreversible case of amnesia but still. Just imagining the implications this could have boggled her mind; merely attempting to think about what could be done to their forces should her memory be restored was impossible for her, beyond her comprehension. And this... this was no ordinary goddess, for sure; the markings told her that, and the fact that her body had resonated with this woman's own... she was a Valkyrie for sure, a race that had supposedly been destroyed and wiped clean from the earth before the rest of the gods...
She looked over to the man who hadn't even introduced himself (not that it mattered to her), whispering "I think we've just met our greatest grandmother-in-law... This woman, she's a goddess... its the only explanation I can find, and all the irregularities fit, but... Aren't they supposed to be dead? Why is she still alive, and hiding in a rock like that? Dammit... if only that request for transport had gotten through..." She was kicking herself for that, and probably would be for life. Still, the fact remained; she could not stay here, and they could not get out without calling for transport somehow...

(( Hey! I was the one who introduced myself first! *jab* ))
As the woman seemed to launch herself out of the tub and land on the floor, he was surprised by her recovery and her speed. When she bolted towards him next and hugged him, possibly to get some heat as her body had just come out of hot water right onto the cold floor, he was knocked back and was trapped under her. He had hit his head lightly on the floor and barely heard the whistle. He shook his head and found the woman was no longer on top of him. He looked behind him to see Valera holding the woman under the blanket.
He waited for the woman to fall alseep before approaching the Valkrys. He wasn't very surprised when she heard her mention that she was a god. He had been thinking about that since he had seen her emerge from the chapel floor but he wasn't sure. This brought more confusion and questions to his already rattled mind. "A real Valkyrie huh? Wow, I was right... Hold on a minute, Valera. So I guess I was really protecting her from... uh you. If thats so, what the heck is this?", he asked her softly so as not to disturb the woman and took out the stone box from his pocket. He extended it towards her then looking at the woman in her arms. "You might want to put her on the bed..."
There was another question he wanted to ask now and he did, "I also wonder now, who exactly hired me and why?"

Valera looked up at him with questioning eyes. "Why you asking me? I didn't hire anyone for anything. All I was told was to come here and retrieve the artifact, if there was one, from that chapel... I don't think anyone knew it would be a bare-naked lady popping out of a stone filled with four-thousand years of some crud that's kept her alive all this time... Help me here."
Grunting as the pain went through her leg once more, she gently (or rather, as gently as she could) pushed the lady off of her and onto the floor before getting herself into a crouched position. Even after she'd shoved the needle full of knockout-juice into her leg, some residual pain existed from the undeadened nerves further up her leg, which caused some more misery. Especially since she wouldn't bother deadening them also, as she needed some feeling in her legs to stand up and keep standing. It took a minute, but the sleeping lady's form was soon in the makeshift bed, dozing away as if nothing had happened at all...
Taking a moment, she sat down in the chair she'd been leaning against, elevating her leg so as not to let it get too swollen while she sat. Now was the time to get some of her own nagging questions out into the open, as well as try and get some answers to those that she had none to, which was all of them. "So, you don't even know who hired you? It wasn't the fanatics who built that place, I can tell you that much; they've been gone for more than a century, according to what I was last told."
Keeping a firm grip on the chair, she raised one leg to an unoccupied part of the bed and laid it down, the mass of it sinking part of the bed down a few inches. "The name's Valera, by the way" she commented out of the blue, turning half-way to look at him from the corner of her eye. "Don'tcha have a name, or should I keep callin' you 'man'?"

(( Sorry Swytch, Jack did bring her out of the water... I forgot :S And like I said, introductions have already been done... ))
He helped Valera move the woman to his bed. She was completely out of it for the moment it seemed. He moved to the end of the bed and covered her with all the blankets he could find. He had been processing the new information she had just given him. If she was to retrieve the artifact, she might do it as soon as she is good enough to walk and that would mean he would become an obstacle in her way. He would have to keep an eye on her. Nothing like having the enemy in your house, he thought.
"Ok, first of all, like I told you before once, name's Jack Slater. Also, you are tell me she is the artifact?", he asked nodding at the form of the sleeping woman next to them. He pulled up a chair from the side and sat on it, facing Valera. He took out the stone box out of his pocket and brought it in front of him, as if offering her to take it, "So what the heck is this then?"
She had said that the fanatics had been dead for more than a century. "If what you say is true, I might have been hired by some ghosts cause I thought I was hired by those old geezers who used to run the chapel. So, now I am her bodyguard huh? The question still remains though, who hired me and why?", he looked in the direction of the woman. He then looked back at Valera and spoke, "Maybe you should get some sleep too."

"There's that," she inquired, "and the fact that the last of the gods were wiped out eons ago. Or so we've all been told since we were children... and now, she comes along. But why now, of all times? The Hume are on the brink of war with the demons once more, and things are looking bad I know but we drove them out the last time, and this time should be no different. And she only awakened when I came near her... I could feel it within the artifact my body holds, and that sensation has never happened before. For whatever reason, she was awakened now for a purpose, but really... why? Why not a few years before when we were coming off the last war, when we would have had the time and resources to re-educate her? Man... does fate ever have a f*cked up schedule or what..."
Shifting to the side she could feel her bones rubbing together at the still-healing wound; it could be up to a week before it was fully healed enough to regularly walk on, and until then she would either be in rehab or stuck here, wasting her time and energy talking to a man who, not an hour before, had tried to kill her in cold blood. She preferred rehab. Shifting on her butt, she pulled a knife that'd been poking her there and began picking the grime out from between her fingernails, probably making Jack nervous. Valera needed to get back to civilization, and get there with the 'artifact', whether this walking experiment standing nearby was coming with her or not.
"Sleep? Maybe... I just know though that I won't be able to sleep very well right now, not with being so close from finishing this, and yet so far. Besides, there's still that squad out there... I figure in sending a message or two to whoever they are... and I figure on sending it in hot lead."
Knarve screamed in fury. The trail had gone cold, and so had her sense of humor for the idiocracy of this all. The hunt had started out being fun, but when the prey went and hid, as they had, well... now it wasn't fun anymore, and simply an annoyance that would feel her purified wrath once she found them. If she found them.
No, she had to. Mother demanded that they were brought before her, and in one piece... Knarve didn't understand why she wanted a few puny Hume to play with. Perhaps she'd devised a new toy and wanted guinea pigs to use it on? That would make sense... but then they could simply raid one of the surrounding villages that didn't have the Paradise City government protecting them. It would be easier on her, and would get results in a hurry.
Instead, she was chasing her own tail following these pesky Hume all around town. Still, there'd been an odd scent in the air; it smelled like a Valkyris warrior, but stronger, and many times more potent. It was something she'd never come across, and although it confused her, she ignored it for now. The last place she had the trailed scent was near an abandoned house, only one of a million or so in this city. Motioning to the small force behind her to spread out, they'd search for the three individuals who had to be around here somewhere nearby; even if they wanted to deny her, none would dare. Who would dare to deny a princess of her will?

Jack simply nodded as Valera talked about the story everyone knew, of the great war long ago and the death of the gods and the devil's warriors. It was not more than bedtime stories now but still a lot of people believed in them. He had kept an open mind, finally getting convinced after he had realized who the woman could be. Hell, the demons were real enough so he figured the gods would be too, no, needed to be real. As she talked about fate, he smiled and spoke, "You have no idea. First I get saved by one of you and now I am being chased after by the rest of you. You would gladly rid the world of me yet I can't return the favor. Thats fate for you..." He realized he might have said a bit too much, but what the hell, who was gonna believe her anyway.
When she questioned as to the timing of her appearance he simply shrugged and commented, "Hey, look at it this way, if she is a goddess, then we gotta assume there is a bad-ass son of the devil on the way to our world right now, or is probably here already. You know the balance and all that sh**..." Jack had been leaning forward towards Valera when she pulled out the knife from behind her. Jack instinctively leaned back on the chair before relaxing, only after he realized it wasn't meant for him, not yet anyway. She needed him right now as she was probably in no condition to walk for a couple of days, maybe more.
He smiled, admiring the spirit and determination of Valera, glad she did not have a beef with him. Even though she was injured badly, she still wanted to fight on and find the people or things who had killed her squad. "Don't you worry about that. I think they would be searching for us as we speak and oh yeah, before I forget, the area around this place is mined and booby-trapped with more explosives than required to take down every building in a hundred meter radius... and everything living around it. You didn't expect me to go without a bang if you guys ever cornered me did ya?", he smiled and omitted to mention about the safe room that would shelter him in case he ever needed to trigger that, though he stil hadn't figured out how he would dig himself out of the tons of rubble the room would end up getting buried under.

"Never even knew you were here, 'til now. Never even heard about any of those male test subjects escaping from the..." Valera cut herself short, knowing that painful memories would only be brought to the surface if she kept going. Changing the subject quickly, she turned to another important matter at hand. "Look, do you have a radio or something? I seriously need to quit playing games here; the situation's gone out of hand, and if I can't call in backup to get this place cleared out, I've got a feeling that we're gonna be stuck here for a long, long time. Longer than you'll want to be holed up for- EEEK!"
Interrupting her was a rather large mouse, which scurried from under the 'bed', beneath her chair, and our a crack in the wall across the room. The whole thing had Valera up on the chair in a heartbeat, and screaming for half a second the next; she hated mice, thinking them to be filthy things when not in cages or labs. She'd forgotten completely about her broken leg, yelling at Jack "What the hell is one of those things doing in here?!"
Knarve was about to turn around and look in a different home when she heard a rather loud scream coming from somewhere nearby. It could possibly just be a couple of angry Hume fuming at each other and things got violent, but something about that voice seemed familiar... and close. It's worth investigating, she thought to herself.
Searching the house once more, she found an interesting dilemma out back; a large, heavy, steel door was locked in place, and could be any number of things. It appeared to be locked, and since she wasn't in the mood to play games, Knarve simply gave the thing a hard, solid kick. It didn't budge an inch, which infuriated her; again and again, she kicked the d**ned thing, becoming more and more frustrated with every successive kick. Finally, she gave her foot a rest, having only made a minor indent in the door. She'd have to find some way around or through the opening, even if it meant slicing open the very earth she stood upon...
Actually... that's not a bad idea she thought to herself, a wicked grin on her face. Whistling for the rest of her underlings, she set them to work on exposing the top of the underground structure. From there, she would tear the roof off the place, in the most literal fashion possible...

His left eye twitched and his smile dissapeared as she mentioned the lab where it was all done. He had somehow made himself forget and was actually surprised how fresh the whole experience was in his mind, every last detail infact. He wanted to go and kill them all but the one who had saved him had stopped him. He did not like it but he was not the one to forget so easily how she had risked her career and probably her life to save him. He had agreed never to venture to the compound again and, never to hurt one like her, which was the toughest thing considering the jobs he started taking up eventually. Everything had gone fine till Valera had come along and acted a bit too brave, even for a valkrys.
He heard her mention the radio next. Sure he had it but it was not going to work from under a metre of earth and a wire mesh to throw of the basic detectors on top of them. Not to mention the disaster it would be if she called reinforcements here. The explosives would be enough for a quick execution. But he understood that there was no way he could keep this woman, this goddess here with him and even think about protecting her, till she recovered anyway.
He was about to reply when he was surprised by Valera as she freaked out over a rat. He smiled, barely able to supress a loud laughter that would have probably driven the valkrys to stab him to death. He shrugged and lied, "My cat kinda caught fire a couple of months back when she swallowed some thermite and well... I will spare you the details. I am kinda glad to see you still remain somewhat human..." He had never owned a cat and he was more relieved to see even this tough and ruthless Valkrys had a weakness and fear.
"Fear is good...", he said but stopped speaking as he also cracked his neck turning to look at someone hit the steel door repeatedly. The feeling of being trapped in his own trap came to him again. Hell, whoever was hitting the door was able to apply more force than a sledgehammer. The door actually had a dent it in by the tim the noise stopped. The silence that followed was worse. What the heck was going on outside?
If he hadn't been so tense he probably would have laughed at the idiocy of whoever was trying to break in. The door opened outwards and kicking it in would have done nothing more than to dent it with the kind of force being used and thats what had happened. Of course, it was kind of unlucky for them that they didn't try the door. He never locked the door. It was a kind of joke, a deadly one at that. The moment someone opened to door outwards, without disarming the wires carefully hidden away to the side, inside the hole, the pipe bombs placed outside would obliterate anything that stood within 30 metres of the door, unless it was an armored tank of course.
He suddenly looked around frantically and began arming himself again. "Uh, we seem to have a problem standing outside that door and believe it or not there is no other way out of this place, sorry. This was supposed to be a place for the 'last stand', not the first one. There is a secure chamber under my work table. You both get yourself in there, I will...", he stopped speaking at this point not really knowing what to do. The room was not big enough for all three, maybe just enough for two, or so he hoped. He looked away from Valera and looked down at himself as he tied his belt with the numerous explosives. He didn't want to show his indecision to her.

*kinda in a block about where to go with this so i'll just skip straight to the action x-x*
Valera was about to make a smart-assed comment back about the mouse thing when a humongous blade pierced the ceiling, narrowly missing her head by inches to the right as it continued its unabated descent, the sound of screeching metal against concrete and fireworks display of sparks sending her off the chair and to the side. The horrible wrenching sound even awoke the girl, who immediately cried out in fear as the huge, single-edged sword hung there for a moment.
Valera had to marvel at its unique design; the back of it was covered by what appeared to be leather-bound metal poles that not only acted as support, but most likely were used to grip it at any degree, right up to the curved tip. Runes adorned its sides, most of them too archaic for her to understand, but there was one thing she was sure of: they were demonic in nature. 'Warrior class' she mumbled under her breath, moaning. If things broke out, none of them would last very long. Not even a Valkrys stood much of a chance going alone against a warrior-class demon, and by the looks of this one's blade, it was a Bezerker, the highest class possible with the most strength, speed, survivability, and killing power. They were all royally screwed.
Abruptly, the blade retracted, but only so far before it came back in, taking some of the rubble down as its edge slid about a foot further, then it retracted again. "Its sawing the roof off" she yelled out, limping over to the bed where the frightened goddess laid, crying her eyes out in complete and total fear. The girl was light, but the extra weight on her leg was not light at all. Still, Valera managed to get her over to the hiding space and lowered her into it first, shouting back to Jack over the noise "Don't you have an oversized shirt or something to put her in?" Truth be told, Valera was becoming jealous of the girl's seemingly canalop-sized breasts, but she wasn't about to admit her insecurities now; as long as she masked it with a bit of humor, then no one was the wiser, so she thought. Not that there was much room for anything else, but now wasn't the time to reflect upon that kind of decision; they were all about to die if that thing managed to get in here.
At least the girl seemed to be complying; she stared up from the floor, watching Valera intently with those huge eyes of hers, which almost unnerved the Valkrys in and of itself. By the gods, she was one of them, but she was about as dumb as a sheep right now. Perhaps being asleep for so long had wiped her memory clean? Valera hoped not, because her kind could do much for the Hume, and learning from her (if her memory returned) could be the key to defeating the demons once and for all...

Jack looked up at the roof as a blade seems to penetrate it. He was shocked for a moment wondering who could drive a blade with that kind of design through rock and earth into his home. He thought he had figured out everyway someone could enter his home but not this! He didn't exactly think he would become so popular that a fighter such as this would come along to tesr through his roof.
He looked down at Valera as she spoke about what was happening. "Thanks, I hadn't noticed!", he shouted back through the noise. He quickly took out a few charges and started placing them on the pillars that were holding up the roof. It if came to that, he would make sure the attackers didn't escape either. He then remembered something and went to his table near the safe room.
As Valera led the visibly scared woman into the small enclosure and asked for clothes, he quickly ran to a cupboard and took out a couple of shirts on top along with a two pair of jeans. He then grabbed the coat for the woman as well seeing as she might have trouble in the cold outside, if they survived that is. He handed this all to Valera and winked, "Shame really, I was kinda enjoying the view... from the both of you."
He then took out the bomb he had picked up from the table and handed this to her as well. "When the roof collapses, you would be trapped inside with a lot of debry on top of you. Plug these extension wires into the two holes inside the door of the room and press the switch. It should clear a bit of it." He had never tester it as the explosives embedded around the door would have blown off the roof on his home, like what was happening now. "Now get in..." he said finally holding the door to the room in the floor for her.

Valera climbed down quickly, letting Jack close the door behind her. There was plenty going on around her, and even though she was fearful, Valera tried to calm herself as much as possible for the sake of the goddess sitting naked nearby, shivering fearfully. She pulled the frightened woman to her breasts, making soothing noises to her, brushing her hands through the lady's silken hair; even though she was jealous of this woman's natural endowment, Valera wasn't about to push her away for what she could not help...
However, she did push her away to put some clothes on the girl. Although noises continued on outside of their sanctuary, she kept her concentration upon Valera, allowing her to place the articles around her. Within a minute or so, she was warmed up again, cradled in the Valkrys's arms like a frightened child...
With a final whack on the earthen ceiling, Knarve punched through, but did not follow immediately. She would give these Hume a moment to step back before she made her appearance; in her experiences, these timid creatures were easily frightened, to the point that even those that they depended so much upon in battle were awed by the sheer power of pure-blooded demons... Finally, she dropped down, one hand on the enormous greatknife, the other assisting her landing, keeping her from landing too hard and losing the advantage she had, or at least the perceived one.
Fluidly straightening herself, Knarve took in her surroundings at a moment's glance; the scents were all here, including that strange, unknown one, but she only saw the man standing there. "Out of my way, knave" she commanded, unhitching her blade from its hold as she took a fearless step forward. "I have only come for the woman and the artifact. Mother wished me to find what has been hidden for so long, and she will most certainly want to know how that lady unlocked it from its hold so easily. She commanded that the Valkrys be taken alive; you, however, hold no bearing in that plan. So..."
Licking her lips seductively, Knarve slowly pulled the blade from its sheath, gripping it about midway after she had it out, aiming the tip straight at the face of the man right in front of her, the sounds of leather rubbing against bare skin resounding about the hollowed-out area; "Which way should I cut ya? I could carve a T-bone, or perhaps spare some ribs for a nibble? So many choices to make and not much time to make them... A pity, really, because I prefer a show before my meals, but one cannot have everything they want in this world, now can they? But I really don't much like having fireworks in my stomach, what that it gives me indigestion and... all..."
The reason for her delayed ending was that her ears had picked up a faint and distant sound. It was one of steel blades beating against the wind with the ferocity of a hurricane... One of those she'd killed earlier had apparently called in reinforcements after all, which boded ill for her. "Blast! And things were just starting to get good too... I did hope to make this experience an enjoyable and very painful one, but it seems I'll have to settle for a quick ending. Oh well..." Changing grips as she spoke, Knarve ran through several patterns of attack, anticipating what this suicidal freak might have in mind with what little she knew of explosives...
*Jess, if you still exist on this plane of pseudo-reality, now would be as good a time as any to reappear...*

He closed the door behind her and as he turned, the roof collapsed on him. It was by some miracle that he avoided a rather large chunk which would have fallen on his head had he been only a step forward. Though the sudden impact made him jump back a bit and hit his work table. He fell down and quickly got up as no one seemed to have followed immediately.
Thinking quickly he moved the table a bit forward, on top of the trapdoor to hide it the best he could. He only had time to pull his guns out as a woman or rather something that looked like a woman jumped through the hole. He would have shot her but his aim faltered seeing her fearless stance and the blade she had pulled out. This was a full blooded demon, not something that could be killed with his bullets. Most he could do was piss her off. He readjusted the grip on his guns finally keeping them back and trying to regain his composure as he stood between the her and the Valkrys and the godess.
Why he was here in the first place, he couldn't quiet fathom or how he had placed himself in this situation for that matter. Hell, it wasn't a human who should have to face off against this one but rather a god. The woman in the safe room behind him was a symbol of weakness the gods had shown a long time ago or so he guessed it would have been. Yet again it came upon the humans to fend for themselves and in this case protect those that were meant to protect them.
Thinking all this had given him his madness or confidence as he thought of it, back. He stood there facing certain death like he was ready to get into a fist fight with her if she asked for it. He smiled, which would seem unnerving even to a demon in these circumstances. Monologue. He would have the demons would know better than to tell their whole life story and mission statement before getting to their actual job but he guessed being so powerful and confident about getting their mark gave them toe luxury to blabber out like this.
He had to get her attention off the other two and on him if they were to survive. He spoke, "Thank you for that information. Seems you are just Mommy's little girl trying to get a pat on your head from dear old Mommy." He paused as he heard the blades of the choppers cutting through the air. Just a bit longer, he thought. He raised up his hand as she first tried to intimidate him trying to describe what he would look like as she finished with him and then switching the grip on her blade.
"Hold on a second. Since I am going to die one way or the other...", he said pulling out a detonator, " ...what, you expected me to describe what I was gonna do is it?" He finished speaking, smiling at the end. He waited a while trying to figure out how he would get past this woman without getting hacked to pieces. He suddenly got a brainwave and decided to give it a shot, "How about you let me go and I let you do your work in peace?" He suddenly regretted mocking her before.

If his intention was to infuriate her, then it worked. "What?!" Knarve cursed quietly, poison dripping in her voice. Even when he gave her the tempting offer, her blade never moved. "After insulting me as such, you expect me to let you live, Hume? Such imputant arrogance! Quite the contrary, if I find them and take them alive, it is only to shut that whorish woman up! She pisses me off to no end... but I'm sick of talking. Go ahead and play with your little toys; after I'm finished with you, you'll wish you'd never been... eh?"
While the lady outside had been jabbering on and on, Valera had time to sneak out of the hole just far enough that she could see around the side; in her free hand were two grenades- one being a fragmentation and the other a flash-bang- wrapped together by jeans material, one of them missing its pin. Relying on sheer luck (as she couldn't take the chance of being seen), she'd tossed it hard, watching the item sail out of sight and hearing the woman utter a cry of surprise at seeing the two flying right for her. Valera just hoped that Jack had enough sense to find cover before he was blown to pieces...

Jack was just following her gaze to a point behind him or beside him when his brain kicked in to move his body. If the demon was surprised, it was certainly nothing from her arsenal that she had seen and he himself hadn't planned for anything to pop up like that so it had to be the work of the Valkrys. He had just thought of thanking her when he caught a glimpse of what was sailing through the air.
Two grenades, thats all he could make out. He didn't think Valera was stupid enough to throw it without pulling the pins, or at least one of them. Being someone who worked with explosives a lot, made him appreciate the simple device. He guessed it was a flashbang and a frag grenade. As he scrambled to get behind the nearest pillar, he thought how he had never thought of this before.
A simple miscalculation on his part at this point, in the hurry he certainly was to avoid, at least, the second blast, made him hit the pillar and bounce off, fortunately towards the table he had used to hide the trapdoor, which now seemed to be open with the Valkrys sticking her torso out of it. He didn't notice that the impact had made him press the trigger on the detonator in his hand as it had hit the pillar. The realization came as he readjusted his hold on the detonator to keep it from falling out of his hand, and in the process, release the now pressed trigger.
As he rolled behind the table, his eyes went wide with horror. The mental countdown began in his head as he waited for the second blast before he would now have to try to make it out of his hole which would about to turn into a small fiery hell in 5 seconds. The safe room would save the two but he and the demon were sitting ducks. He just hoped the grenades would disorient and hopefully injure or kill the demon so he could make it out. There was the additional issue of dealing with whatever minions she had brought with her who were probably waiting outside right now.

The grenades bounced once in front of her and, just when she realized what they were, detonated. Between the two, there was enough kinetic energy to knock the feral lady back against the nearest wall or debris pile screaming, clutching her eyes as she attempted to see again. It was all futile; she was temporarily blinded, and the place was about to be blown halfway to Narnia.
Meanwhile, Valera had ducked back inside, hoping that Jack had a clear way out now. She'd seen him fall on the detonator, and abandoning all thought of saving his ass, had promptly pulled herself into the hole, awaiting the detonation. However, she had had the smarts to leave her gun right outside for Jack, in case he did make it out alive...
