The man ran down the cobbled street shouting out for help as he went but it would do no good. The streets were silent and the nearest guards were at the dcity gates over a mile away. Elduriel knew this as he opened the small purse that contained the man's hard earned money. A number of gold and silver pieces and a small copper ring were enclosed within, a considerable haul so late at night.
Elduriel proceeded to move to the shadows as the odd person emerged from their home to view the commotion as the shouts for help subsided. This night had brought much fortune to the amateur thief and a drink was deserved before the taverns closed for the evening. Elduriel stopped at the Highlander Inn and pulled up a stool at the bar and ordered a pint of ale. After paying with his new earnings and taking a swig of the ale, he enquired about any available rooms for the evening. The bartender replied with good news claiming that many rooms were on offer. Elduriel paid the man for one such room and continued to drink. While he had been sitting at the bar drinking, a young woman had pulled up a stool next to Elduriel. She was dressed finely in smart attire and decorated heavily with jewellary.
She glanced at Elduriel a few times before she finally spoke.
"I'm sorry to disturb you but may i ask you a question. Are you an adventurer of sorts. I happened to notice your clothing and the dagger you keep at your waist"
The bartender gave the woman a glass of mulled wine as the woman handed over some coins.
"You don't want to drink that stuff, it might cause that exceptional intelligence to deteriate" Elduriel snipped at her
The woman was undetered by his insults
"I'll take that as a yes, you may not be as insulting when I tell you what i'm about to tell you especially if you have a desire to fill your pockets to the top with gold."
"I might be if you're lying but i'm listening."
"Very well. I recently lost an object that is very important to me. It is an amulet that used to belong to my father and has been in my family for..."
"I can feel the insults returning" Elduriel uttered as his eyes glazed over
"Well anyway. I know of its location but i need someone to retrieve it for me"
"I'm not an errand boy, lady"
"No, it's in a dungeon not far from here. I'm too afraid to go there. It's apparently populated with monsters of all varieties but i thought you might have the experience to tackle it. There is also treasure there of which you are more than welcome to."
"There better be or i'll melt that amulet down and sell it as scrap metal" Elduriel grinned evily
"Does that mean you'll do it. You can take any treasure you wish, all i ask is that you return my amulet"
"Since i'm such a kind, caring person, i'll do it"
"There is one small problem though"
"There usually is, I hope it can be dodged"
"Certainly, the dungeon will only open when three parts of a seal are placed on the door. They act as a key that allows passage inside. I have one of the three parts but you will need to locate the other two. They can be found in nearby towns. That's all you need to know. Once you have the seal, go to the dungeon and find my amulet."
"Very Well, i'll see you here when i get it"
"Thank you kindly" And with that the woman left.
Elduriel began to ponder the job. It was unlikely that he could do the job on his own, he would need a group of skilled companions to assist him. He continued to drink his pint of ale wondering if anyone in the pub would be willing to help for a share of the treasure
