The night was dark, and wolves howled in the distance. A shadow moved quietly along, hidden in the trees. From where it was, a light in a window could be seen. The window belonged to a little cottage, and the cottage to a small family.
The family lived away from anyone else, too ashamed to be in society. The father was of elven blood, and the mother a simple human. Here, they could live happily and in peace with their halfblood child, a teenaged girl they named Kyra.
The father, sat in a chair, for some reason unable to sleep. He held a gun, afriad in the night of an unknown threat. His wife and daughter lay asleep in their rooms. He didn't want to wake them unless he had to.
His ears twitched. Something was out there, but he didn't know what. He knew that when he was younger, he hadn't been the only thing to come in the crossing from Earth. There had ben a few other elves, and other things, thing much worse.
Wind coming in through the window became chill. He stood to close it, but glanced out it first. A shadow grabbed him before he pulled back in though, pulling him out of the house. He shot at it, the sounds echoing throung the night. His wife ran to the family room, trailed by the girl. All they heard was a bit of scuffling outside the window, then silence. Both stared at the open window, fearing what might come through. The girl clutched her mother like a small child would, terrified.
They heard another window open, and backed into a corner. The mother held Kyra close, shielding her. A shadowy from stood just outside the light, two blazing red eyes locked on them.
"Get out!" the mother said, trying not to show fear. "Leave us alone!"
It ignored her words and stepped forward.
"Get out!" the woman repeated shakily. "OUT!"
The figure flashed sharp, gleaming teeth, and continued coming closer. The woman ran, half carring her daughter, to the window. Near histarical, she pushed Kyra out the window and screamed, "RUN!"
The dark man grabbed her mother then, pulled her head over and bit into her neck. Kyra stared for a moment, until the glowing eyes focused on her. She turned and ran as he returned to her mother's throat.
Crying, she blindly ran, tripping and stumbling over different things in her way. She almost ran right off a cliff, but stopped inches before. She looked down, and looked back. In the trees she saw the two glowing eyes. She almost stepped back, but remembered the cliff behind her. She saw she'd cornered herself, and had nowhere to go. The figure came for her, and did to her as it had her mother.
In a moment of panic, she lashed out at the vampire, knocking them both off ballance. Both fell back, he to the ground, she off the cliff. As she fell, she hit a couple times against the cliff until finally splashing into foaming white rapids. The water rushed her limp form down the river, until finally it calmed and pushed her ashore. From there, she was dragged by a hermit to his own home.
She woke as the next night began, remembering nothing of the night before. And as time passed, she forgot more and more, until she knew very little of her past.
