Anton walked slowly along the docks, tugging nervously at his hood to make sure it covered his face. He doubted that anyone would recognize him, but he couldn't be sure and didn't want to take any chances. He wasn't yet far enough from Halruaa that he could count on no one having met any of his ancestors. He looked at the different ships, trying to identify one that might be willing to take on a paying passenger. "The Liberator..." he muttered to himself, seeing the name of one of the ships. "Worth a try, wouldn't you say, Noor?" He walked forwards, trying to decide who to talk to about passage.

*Mariah whistled a little tune to herself as she scrubbed the wooden planks on the deck of The Liberator, completely oblivious to the world around her. She walked barefoot over the wood as she washed it, enjoying the feel of the cool water on her feet. A soft breeze blew in from the water, tossing her hair lightly and making her smile as she worked.*

Anton looked around, but could see no sign of anyone who looked like they might be the ship's captain. Finally, he decided to simply ask a crewmember. "Excuse me!" he called to the woman who was currently scrubbing the deck, "Would you know where I can find this ship's captain?"

*Mariah looked up when she heard someone calling out to her, striding over to the railing. She stared at the curious stranger, a friendly smile on her lips despite the man's rather forbidding appearance.* "Probably the nearest tavern. But he said he would return soon, so you're welcome to wait around here, mate, or you can search for him yourself. His name is Captain Sinclair. Large human with a short gray beard streaked with blonde. Hard to miss him."

Anton nodded his thanks. "I'll wait here for him then. I'm not that fond of taverns." He looked up at her, pulling back his hood. "Perhaps you can save me some time. Do you know if this ship ever takes on paying passengers?"

*Mariah just nodded with a laugh.* "If you've got the money, there's no way anyone on this ship is going to turn you down." *She grinned at him, much more at ease without that hood covering his features.*

Anton smiled, relieved both that the ship took passengers and because she hadn't recognized his features. "I go by... Akhlaur" he lied, feeling more at ease, although not enough to reveal his true name.

"Akhlaur, eh?" *Mariah swung herself up onto the railing, sitting on it lightly with her legs dangling over the side.* "Mariah Finne, the humble sailor, at your service."

Anton smiled, and then started as he got a closer look at her features. "You're an elf," he said, somewhat in surprise.

*Mariah laughed at his surprise.* "Really? I hadn't noticed... No wonder why my skin's a little on the green side..." *She grinned at him playfully.* "Actually, I'm only half. My father's perfectly human... Well, maybe not perfectly... Humans are never exactly perfect, are they? No offense to you of course, mate."

Anton shook his head. "I'd be the last person to disagree with you on that point," he said with fervor, thinking of his family with disgust." He gave himself a little shake, and then smiled slightly. "And here I thought you were just feeling a bit seasick," he said playfully.

*Mariah placed her hands on her hips with a mockingly indignant expression.* "Me? Seasick? Never. I was born in the sea, thank you very much. Never had a touch of seasickness in my life, hand to the gods, which is more than most of these old seadogs can say." *She smiled at him, nodding toward some of the other sailors scurrying around the docks.*

Anton grinned, and then raised an eyebrow. "Born in the sea? You mean you were born on a ship?"

"No, I mean I was born in the sea. Underwater. Kind of cool if you think about it... even if I did almost drown..." *Mariah laughed softly at the man's confusion.* "My mom was an aquatic elf. I'm quite a rare little half-breed."

Anton's eyes widened. "That's... rather impressive. I've never actually talked to an elf before, much less one who was born under the sea."
