Taurëndil sat in the corner of The Five Fine Fish tavern in Immersea. His sword was leaning sheathed against the wall behind him, and an old cloak wascovering his armor as he reclined in his chair, watching the fire thoughtfully. The Five Fine Fish was an adventeror's haven, and people of all races and professions could be found gracing it's tables. Finished with his drink, the Knight of Ilmater began to play slowly on his lute. It had been a way of relaxation for him since he was a child. He could sense no evil, and gave himself wholly into his music. He was therefore startled when he looked up from his music and noticed someone watching him.

*Zahrah smiled when the man she had been watching finally noticed her. She'd had a few moments to study him... He didn't look like he would own much of value but he was worth investigating... Besides, a bit of music was always nice... She was seated at the table nearest him and turned in her seat to speak to him.* "I'm not bothering you am I? I couldn't help but listen... You play beautifully..."

"I'm not bothering you am I? I couldn't help but listen... You play beautifully..."
Taurëndil smiled. "No, not at all. You just startled me a bit, that's all." He took a closer look at the woman, noting her attractiveness and dark skin. "So, what brings you to Cormyr, M'lady? If you'll forgive me for saying so, you don't look like a native to the Forest Kingdom."

*Zahrah smiled brightly.* "No, not at all... Although I sometimes wish I had been. It's a shame that I stand out so much... Let's just say that Cormyr holds more opportunities for a woman like myself..." *She slowly took a sip of her drink, her eyes never once leaving him.*

"I find it hard to believe that you could go go unnoticed in any crowd>" Suddenly remembering, Taurëndil said "Oh! I beg your pardon, I seem to have forgoten my manners. I am Taurëndil, a knight in the service of Ilmater and an officer in the Purple Dragons."

"I didn't know I sat in the company of such an honorable man... I'll have to be on my best behavior..." *She laughed a little.* "I'm Zahrah... No noble titles to go with the name, I'm afraid..."

"My titles aren't exactly noble either. I almost had a noble title as well..." Here Taurëndil's smile faded and he looked down, fingering his instrument. "I was betrothed to a noblewoman of the house Obarskyr."

*Zahrah's eyes widened slightly at that... She picked up her drink, slowly moving to take a seat beside him.* "Was? What could go wrong with a perfect match like that...?"

Taurëndil sighed. "Ever since the war and the death of King Azoun, Cormyr's enemies have taken advantage of our weakened state. Many nobles have lost their respect for the ruling house, Sembia takes advantage of us to try and steal our trade, and the Fire Knives take advantage of the chaos and attack their old enemies." At Zahrah's puzzled expression, he went on. "The Fire Knives are a group of assasains with a grudge against Cormyran nobles in general and house Obarskyr in specific. The night before we were to be wed... she was murdered."

*Zahrah lightly bit her lip, feeling a little guilty for asking... However, she wasn't normally one to enjoy feeling sympathetic for others and tried to shut the feeling away.* "My apologies... I didn't know..." *For a moment she was tempted to ask if he loved her, but she could already guess the answer... She was a noblewoman. Money, some fame, and probably good looks. What's not to love? She leaned against the table, watching him.* "How long ago was this...?"

"Three years. It's been three years since her murder, and no one has found the person who killed her. The only tthing I have left is my faith and my country... and even my country is not what it used to be."

*Zahrah took another sip of her drink, hesitating a moment and trying to choose her words carefully.* "I've never been one to live for faith or country... There are better things in life... Surely a man like you has plenty of people that love him..."

Taurëndil smiled grimly. "Better things in life? Perhaps. But it's given me a sense of purpose. Something... to hold on to. No matter what may happen, I take comfort in Ilmater." He fingered some more patterns on his lute. "As for plenty of people to love me... there are probably less than you would think." He leaned forward, out of th shadows, the scars covering his face showing up in vivid lines. "After you get seperated from your company and lose your helmet, let's just say these kinds of things happen."

*Zahrah nearly flinched but she managed not to. She'd seen worse before... She didn't once look away from him.* "Strange... I have yet to see one reason why people wouldn't love you... Not even those..." *Her eyes roamed over the scars for a moment before focusing on his eyes. It's a shame he didn't get married to that noble... Then I'd really love him. Still, he's not bad for a knight...*

Taurëndil looked down, speaking half to himself. "Fair indeed, and yet not quite so." Shaking himself a little, he looked back up. "And what, pray tell, would be the reasons that people would love me?"
