'I don't want any help. Besides, now you sound like those cheesy brochures the guidance counselor at my old school used to hand out. Whenever she could catch me there, that is,' Chance fell silent for a second. 'And as for my dad, according to your rules, he was just as lost as I am and maybe all he needed was "a push in the right direction." If I was the only one around to give it, then that makes his problems mine, now doesn't it?' he asked, looking away.

*Lilith frowned and immediately turned her head away, her arms folding over her chest.* "Fine. Maybe I'm just wrong about everything. Why listen to me? I'm the social outcast here right?" *She paused a moment, knowing that she was letting her emotions get the best of her. She continued, calmer and slower.* "But if I remember correctly, you're the one that was wishing you could learn to stop making those mistakes... And apparently your way of thinking hasn't helped you achieve that. Trying a new way of approaching things couldn't hurt."

'It doesn't matter anyway,' Chance sighed. 'I mean, I'm on a seventeen year streak. Why stop now?' he asked, leanng his head back against the bench and staring at the sky.

*Lilith sighed, lowering her head and closing her eyes.* "Because it's not what you want... And if anyone deserves to have what they want right now... it's you..."

'I don't even know what I want,' Chance said, laughing, despite the fact that this was probably the most serious converstaion he had with anyone other than his wall in years. 'It's not worth trying to change, especially when you know it won't work.'

"You can't know until you try... Look me in the eyes and tell me that you want to keep living the way you have been and hurting yourself... If you can honestly tell me that then I'll leave you alone about it..." *Lilith lifted her head to stare at him, her face blank of expression.*

'I don't know any other way to live,' Chance said, shrugging. 'Besides, I'm just here until I'm old enough to leave and scrape together a living on my own.'

*Sighing and deciding that she wasn't accomplishing anything, Lilith grabbed her book and jacket and rose to her feet.* "People can teach you other ways to live..." *She paused a moment to look at him.* "If you're not too stubborn to let them..." *With that, she started walking back toward the mansion.*

Yeah, sure, like that'll ever happen. He scrubbed a hand through his hair and frowned. Conversations shouldn't be this stressful. Then again, that doesn't matter, because I've succeeded in being such a jackass that Lilith'll probably never speak to me again. I guess that doesn't matter much either, though. Chance kicked at the ground with his heel for a moment before glancing over the back of the bench towards the mansion. He sighed quietly and leaned forward letting his head fall into his hands. Eh..... f**k it all, anyway.(((Please pardon his French. )))

*Lilith was silent as she entered the mansion, ignoring everyone around her. She was too upset to worry about them right now. Another social failure... But at least this time I was the one to walk away... Why can't he understand...? Why can't anyone understand...? She sighed as she entered her dorm, closing the door and locking it behind her. She set her poetry book on the nightstand before hanging her jacket up in the closet. Sitting down on her bed, she hugged her knees to her chest, trying to relax in the darkness of her room.*

Chance got to his feet and quickly exited the garden, heading back to his room. His rommates weren't there, which was good, otherwise they would have interrogated him about where he was going as he grabbed his backpack and changed into a heavier shirt. Chance thought that if he had to answer anymore questions then he would freak and go on a homicide spree. He made his way through the mansion quickly, not stopping to talk to people he knew, even avoiding them, if possible. Leaving the mansion was easy enough, and he was would be back well within the curfew. Once he was back outside, Chance sighed and started walking to the nearest convenience store, hoping his luck and quick fingers wouldn't fail him. Convenince-store checkout were always morons anyway. ** The bell on the door of the convenience store went 'DING' as Chance pushed it open, but the person behind the reguster didn't even look up from whatever she was reading. He walked through the aisles of assorted cellophane-wrapped goods to the back of the store, which hosted the typical humongus refrigerator that all places like it had. Chance pulled the door open and swiftly slipped some cans of an all-to-familiar substance into his backpack. He was about to turn and leave when he grabbed a can of Coke, just to reassure the chick that he did, indeed, buy SOMEthing. ** The walk back to the mansion didn't take nearly as long as the one to the convenince store, which was odd, because it was colder out, too. chance made his way back to the familiar settings and inerior of the place he had known for the last year, stopping to talk to a friend or two on the way back to his room. His rommates still weren't back yet, which made sense, as it was still fairly early. Chance dropped the back pack on the floor next to his bad, toed his shoes off and flopped over on his mattress, where he promptly drank himself to sleep. ** The next morning Chance opened his eyes to a painfully bright light in the room. He groaned and rolled over, shoving his head under his pillow, feeling rather like puking. Even the ticking of the clock, which read 9:54 AM was too loud. Nice to know my friendly rommates will be there to wake me when it's time to go to class, he thought, despit the fact that his head felt like it was stuffed with cotton. Doesn't matter, I suppose, I wouldn't have gone to class anyway. Not with a massive hangover, at any rate. Chance sighed and sat up, only to shove his backpack, full of beer cans, under his bed and scramble beneath the sheets miserably. (((MWAH HA HA! AND NOW YOU KNOW THE EVIL PLAN!!!Brilliant, huh? Blah......)))

*Lilith stayed up all night reading her poetry book by her window in the starlight, occaisionally stopping to think about everything that had been said between her and Chance. By dawn she had decided that perhaps she had been a little too hard on him... and wrong to just leave him like that. As the morning's first light streamed through the window, Lilith grabbed her jacket and pulled it on, leaving her dorm. She grabbed a bite to eat in the dining hall before going to her first class. However, she could hardly focus, growing more and more uncomfortable with how she had acted toward Chance. At the end of class, she made a decision... After quietly and shyly asking the professor for directions, she walked through the mansion until she came to the dorm that was supposed to belong to Chance. She hesitated outside it, quite nervous and unsure of herself. Taking a deep breath, she reluctantly lifted her hand to knock softly on the door.*

A soft knock on the door (Which actually sounded rather loud.) brought Chance out of his state that was some kind of a mix between sleep, half-consciousness, and just flat out refusing to recognize the rest of the world, beyond his pillow, that is.
Dragging himself out of bed was quite a task, and by the ned of it Chance was thoroughly regretting being too lazy to take an Aspirin. He opened the door and blinked at the light the came in. 'Mm.... bright..' Chance mumbled, turning his head away for a second. 'Why are you here?' he asked in surprise, when he realized who was standing at his door. 'I mean, yeah...... you know what I mean,' he said, rubbing his eyes.

*Lilith frowned as she looked over Chance. She practically forgot all about the apology she had planned, her eyes concerned behind her sunglasses.* "I wanted to stop by before I went to sleep... I wanted to..." *She stopped, shaking her head. Her explanation and apology could wait.* "Are you all right? No offense but you look horrible..." *She was briefly tempted to reach out and feel his forehead to see if he was sick but she refrained from doing so.*

'Thanks,' Chance said, stumbling back over to sit on his bed. 'I'm fine. It's nothing to worry about. Uh.... ya wanna sit down or something? Not that there's much room,' he added, glancing around at the piles of junk he and his roommates had accumulated.
