*Lilith glanced over at Chance for a brief moment, frowning slightly. She lowered her gaze to stare at the ground, crossing her arms over her chest.* "I have good reasons."

Chance bit his lip and looked away, wishing, for the thousandth time that'd he'd think before he said whatever thing just happened to pop into his head. Usually it worked, and most times it was good for a laugh, as whatever came into his mind was usually something out there, but it did mean that someone would get offended once in a while. 'I never said you didn't,' he said, glancing at Lilith. 'I just am kind of used to being around people who I'm at least acquainted with, is all.' So much for luck, he thought.

*With a small "hmph" Lilith turned her head away. However, she paused a moment, realizing that she might be getting a little too defensive... She was so used to feeling like she was under attack all the time... She hesitated a little, risking another glance at Chance. Sighing softly, she made another attempt at some sort of decent conversation.* "So... What's with the die? I noticed you tossing it earlier..."

'What?' Chance asked, glancing at Lilith. 'Oh, that's nothing,' he said, shoving his hand, which still held the die, in his pocket. 'Just something I have a tendency to do when I'm bored, he mumbled, staring at the ground.

*Lilith sighed softly and dropped her head again, closing her eyes. She was beginning to wonder if she would ever be able to have a conversation with anyone. It was so frustrating for her... People never knew what to say around her and she never knew what to say around people.*

Not able to think of anything to say, chance simply sat in silence. He felt like he should leave, but had no desire to, especially since he could tell Lilith obviously wasn't used to people talking to her. He hadn't meant to draw into himself like that, it was just something that happened whenever anyone got irritated him, usually because it was his fault, but he could never find any way to apologize. I should be used to saying sorry by now, though....... Chance thought.

*The silence was becoming far too awkward for Lilith. Normally she didn't mind it at all but this time was different. Trying to think of something, anything to talk about, she slipped her jacket off and laid it over the back of the bench next to her, revealing her pale skin which she had to keep covered all day. Her blood red eyes focused on Chance again as she ran a hand through her hair. One more try... If this doesn't work, I give up...* "How long have you been at the institute?"

'Not very long, I guess,' Chance answered, rather vaguely. 'Maybe a year,' he shrugged. Then, somewhat inconclusively, he added, 'I was kind of too much for my father to take care of.'

*Lilith stared at him a moment, her eyes softening slightly. She was a little surprised by that although she supposed that she shouldn't have been...* "That makes two of us then..." *She turned her gaze away, hesitating for a moment.* "Only I was sent here four years ago..."

'You got sent here? You're lucky, then. I had to find this place and get here on my own,' Chance replied before he could stop himself. 'That's why I didn't come sooner: because I couldn't drive up until about a year ago.' There's no harm in telling her a little. I just won't mention what I don't have to.

"You mean you wanted to leave...? Hm... Although I didn't complain at the time, I definitely didn't want to come here. My father shipped me off after I-- after my mother went into a coma." *Lilith paused a moment, not wanting to mention the fact that she had caused that coma. She looked at Chance again, hoping to get him talking so that she could avoid that fact.* "Why did you want to come here?"

'Like I said; I was too much for my father to take care of. And I guess I felt bad for it, so I left and here I am now, in all my splendor and glory,' Chance said, rolling his eyes and hoping Lilith wouldn't ask any more questions.

"Hm..." *Lilith resisted the urge to sigh. And I thought I was the one dodging questions...* "Well... Somehow I think we're better off here anyway... whether we wanted to leave or not..."

'Eh.... probably,' Chance said, shrugging slightly. 'I take it that your folks knew about your 'gift', then, did they? Considering the fact that they sent you here.'

"Heh. Kind of hard to miss... I wasn't exactly a normal child. Most mutants show their mutations at a certain age. I was born with some of mine. Like light sensitivity... I refused to open my eyes for weeks after I was born... and when I did... Well... This color isn't exactly normal you know? And then I'd cry every time I was in a brightly lit place... The light sensitivity got worse and worse... I was almost permanently blinded at one point. Then when I was 10 my skin developed the same sensitivity to sunlight. And then the fangs... There was no way I could hide any of it. Things just kind of went downhill after that..." *She didn't mention her other mutation... She didn't know if he knew about that and she certainly wasn't about to tell him.* "Did your father know...?"
