This came from an RP Jess and I were involved in for a little (hun, you've gotta let me know if I need to change anything!), but it's been changed a bit to fit here. If you want to join in, you've gotta ask her or me. Now let's see if I can give the setting a decent intro...
A man walked briskly down sunlit corridors, paying no attention to the pulsing of the scenery outside caused by the field that enclosed the halls. He wore a blue and silver officer's uniform, and his mannerisms matched, right down to the slight scowl on his face. His men had been making fine progress with the excavation, and now those old-fashioned religious nuts wanted the whole operation not only to be stopped, but reversed!
When he reached the main chamber, a room enclosed in white marble, he threw open the doors. The eyes of several figures locked onto him, but he gave no hesitation before nearly yelling, "What the h*ll is the meaning of this?" He held up a few sheets of paper, the command he had received. "Why can't the excavation proceed?"
Those watching him showed no sign of agitation, and the others remained silent as one said, "It is explained in the papers in your hand."
"All that's in here is a bunch of mumbo jumbo about some supposedly evil artifact and the 'end of all things.' Sorry, but I don't think that will be a problem." The officer's words were dripping with sarcasm.
"Are you in need of replacement, Connerly? You seem to be having trouble."
His eyes darkened. He didn't care how much good this blasted Order of Deo had done for the peoples of the known galaxy, right then he would have liked little more then to ring the neck of the lot of them. Unfortunately, to argue would result in the loss of his position and mostly likely the label or heretic, and to fight would mean death; old they may be, but the Elders of the Order were some of the most skilled with their laserswords and wielded potent "holy" magic. Even if he could somehow manage to get rid of those before him, there were plenty more to take their places.
"No," he said through gritted teeth, "I too still fight for Deo. But there is something great in those mountains, and I'm sure it could be used for the good of all. Even all you have done - "
"What you found must be left alone. It will do no good - only destroy us all."
Connerly bit his tongue to restrain himself from making a mistake. After a moment he said, "I understand. We will begin replacing everything as soon as possible. It may take awhile, though, operating on Rujin has left us more open to attacks from pirates and heretics."
Before another word could be said, he turned on his heel and walked out just as quickly as he had walked in, hoping that if the rumors of strong empathy were true that they would accept anything from him as a bit of lingering frustration.
There was much for him to do, and not much time to do it in. The excavation had to be finished before the Order realized that it hadn't been reversed. He knew something was there on Rujin, the most central planet in the galaxy. He had to know what.
Simplest way to explain this would be to say it's like Star Wars, but with magic instead of the Force. The Order of Deo are "good" magic users - most of what they do is fairly harmless, but they are fully capable of defending themselves. Its led by a sort of council of Elders, but there are many others that go about keeping things running smoothly, and others in a sort of academy, learning how to harness their magic and the ways of Deo. There's also the bad side, users of very destructive magic who frequently follow a more devil-like figure. Them and people who are just generally against the Deo thing, whether or not they have magic, are dubbed heretics. (Name suggestions? I'm trying to make it not too much like the source, especially since I'm not sure of all the sources it used...) Anyway, my brain is kinda running out of stuff to say...

A slight rhythmic crunching of dirt and small rocks was the only sound to be heard in the tunnel, and nothing could be seen in the dark - except that Nyx's goggles were set to infrared, allowing her to make her way through the underground labyrinth that, if all the correct turns were made, led to the cavern the woman called home. She wasn't headed home, though, but checking around for wanderers who might have gotten lost in her caves. It had only happened once in her years there so far and she had taken care to ensure the man would never remember how to get back, but it would be when she stopped checking that she'd end up stuck with the reek of a rotting body in all this enclosed space. Anyway, lost animals turned up now and then, and she preffered to get them out before they were starved mad or started to decay after dying.

A mechanical oddity stood in the way of further investigation down one of the myriad corridors within the labyrinth. Covered in various runes from the ancient times, runes that have long since been forgotten by just about everybody except the eldest of the Order of Deo.
The door, of course, lead to the object of which the Elders of Deo wished to remain locked there... An object which could possibly shatter the foundations which their order stood upon. Of course, the only person that knew what lie behind the door now lay dead in front of it, a rotted skeleton with a hole in its head.
As the officer approached it he smiled, "Finnaly... here it is." He looked back at his assitant and nodded, "Do you have the scroll?" The other man nodded and produced a rather largescroll made of thick, rotting papyrus. On it were various runes and symbols, which the officer understood clearly as a map to some sort of hidden artifact of Deo... something quite important. It was known simply as 'The Ark' and could do woderous things... to his knowledge.
He scanned the Scroll, but found no way to actually operate the ancient door, but he was absolutely positive that this was the door he had been searching for- the markings matched the description on the scroll exactly. The only way he could fathom actually opening the door was a massive hole about the size of a human hand and arm. "Hmmm..." He rolled up the scroll and looked at his assistant. "Mortimer... stick your arm in that opening will you?"
The little man shook his head, "Sorry sir but..." And recieved a prompt whack on the head, "Ack! Alright! I'll do it..." And then he shuffled over and timidly held out his arm, looking back at his boss. The officer waved at him to do it, as he re-opened the scroll to read further down, his eyes catching somethign he had missed. "No wait!" Too late, the device spun and clamped down on his assistants arm.
Within moments, crimson blood seeped from the hole, soliciting a girlish scream from the assistant as his life was drained from him slowly... the device releasing him only after its thirst was met- he was saveable... but barely. "Sh*t! Mortimer... those wounds..." Several perfectly lined up wounds lined all four sides of the mans arm, turning black and getting bigger as his arm slowly degenerated. The officer drew his pistol and quickly ended the mans sufferng- another body added.
"d**nit... this is to dangerous..."
----
Machines whirred to life ahead of Nyx as she searched the tunnels, a long forgotten corridor coming to life at her approach... I can't really say more since it'd be power playing...

The way Chaser went was one that she generally one she avoided. She knew well how easily the tunnels could cave in over time, and these ones in particular she knew to be weak. What all the metal was for, she didn't know; there wasn't any record of buildings in the area, and anything secret would surely be better kept - or at least better guarded. As it was though, she had been avoiding the area. She knew for sure that something had died down that way, likely some animal caught in a small cave in, or simply lost until it dehydrated. The stench had previously been too strong to handle where she was now, but it had faded after enough time. Even so, she had a mask over her mouth, in part for the stench, and in part because she had no clue what might be in the air in that area.
The thing that had smelled so bad was obvious once she saw it. No animal native to Haldric had a skeletal structure like that, though. Whatever it was, it was humanoid. A closer look told her that the person hadn't dehydrated or starved, either. She examined the hole in the skull briefly, using her foot to move it so she didn't have to touch the little bit of remaining flesh, and determined that whoever it was had been shot. As she saw no gun there, she knew that meant there had to have been another person. Surely the other was gone by now, by the idea that someone and come and left in her tunnels... But perhaps not, perhaps there was another way out. Still, it connected to her tunnels. She was going to have to see about caving that in to black it off.
Nyx started to turn, but paused, looking at the door. The thing looked far more ancient than the corpse laying there, but footprints in the dirt showed that people had been through it relatively recently. Curious, she pushed on it, being that there wasn't really a handle to pull and the device by it had apparently been shot as well. It didn't budge. She tried again and heard something cracking, but still it didn't move.
"Well fine," Chaser said to herself, giving up. "Prolly better I keep out anyway, place is likely to fall in."
A final kick and she was going to- She would have walked away, except that her kick had apparently knocked the door loose. Chaser stared for a moment, then whispered, "Curiosity killed the cat." As if to avoid jinxing herself, she finished the saying in her head: Satisfaction brought it back.

The door gave way to a large room that whirred to live with the approach of a warm, and hopefully living, body. Ancient machinery lit up, bathing the room in a cacaphony of multi-colored. flickering lights. Ancient, rune-covered devices whirr and click and tick as a large sarcophugus in the center of the room slowly rotates around as it is risen into the air to about chest-height.
The sarcophogus sides slide away, along with the top, as the machineinclines it to a more vertical position, and laying down on the slab is a...woman!? Various restraints hold her fast to the machine, multicolored tubes attached to different ports on her body, the largest of which connecting to a hole at the base of her neck. She remains lifeless, as another machine-like arm circles around and stops in front of her, a claw like contraption with the imprint of a hand extending outward to beckon the newcomer i with its mystery.
The device which is extended towards the newcomer has one long, clear tube extending from the rear of the device, coils around the robotic arm like a serpent, goign down the length of the slab in order to coil around the woman's leg, climbing up the length of her body and into the direct center of her chest- where the heart would be.

(( Thanks to timing, I totally missed the edit in your first post... looks like you took care of it, though. ^^; ))
Nyx wasn't sure what she found more shocking: all the machinery about, or the fact that it was all apparently functional. She looked around in wonder at the lot of it, but nothing drew her attention so much as did the woman on the slab. The female form appeared humanoid, actually even human, but Chaser couldn't figure the thing to actually be human. No, it looked more like a doll... a rather mature doll, but a doll none the less. Her curiosity tugging, Nyx allowed herself to begin touching things...

As Nyx's hand touched the device which extended forward like an arm it clamped down upon her hand, a painful sensation would then shoot up through her arm as it poked a single hole into each digit- enough to drain a small ammont of blood.
The crimson fluid ran through the tube, coiling sinisterly around the female form as it went, finnally reaching where it connected to her body, and the device stopped syphoning blood from Nyx- the tail end of it disappearing as it entered the doll's body. The pressure exserted upon Nyx's hand from the vampiric spout of power would then turn to a burning sensation as it cauterized the wounds...
Lights around the place where the tube connected turned on- blues, reds, whites and yellows all flickering and blinking. Some in unison, others at random intervals. As a matter of fact, all the machines in the room started getting much louder afterthe exchange of blood.

"Wha... Sonuva-!" Chaser let out a few curses and tried to pull her hand back as firt she felt her fingers stabbed, then burned. As more machinery seemed to come to life, she managed to pull her hand free - or maybe it had simply released her. Whichever, she was more concerned with what had happened to her hand. She looked at the marks on her fingers and thumb and flexed them all a few times. It hadn't felt like anything was injected, at least, but she still intended to check for toxins when she got back home.
Her eyes scanned the room again, aware now that, yes, things were operating, and that yes, it was a bad idea to touch things. Listening to the noises, she also started to think that maybe it would be a good idea to get the heck out before the place caved in. Who knew just what was going on? She started out, then paused and looked back at the form on the table. It was so human-like, and so perfect... It seemed a shame to leave whatever it was there. Chaser doubted it was alive, but even if it were just a life-sized doll, it was a pretty thing and could likely get her some money if nothing else. But, no, she made enough already, and she didn't really trust the ancient-looked structure. Anyway, there was the trouble that just touching had already caused...

It took a moment or two... but the doll moved. The movement was small, but it moved none the less- its left hand twitched. Before long, the device in her hest fell, as the liquid-like material sealed over the wound in its absense. The sounds started to die down...
And her eyes began to slowly open, as ancient restraints release her head. Drooping, her head lolls to the side a little as her eyelids slide back to reveal beautiful Pristine purple orbs se within the facade of humanity. Lips pat to mutter something, but its incoherent and barely audiable.
She maneuvers her head to look at Nyx, locking her gaze for the moment. Green runes flashed accross those eyes for a long ammount of time as they lock with Nyx. Her lips move, forming words that aren't yet spoken. One of the restraints holding her hand gives way, as she lefts it up and reaches out for the person whom freed her from her slumber, as if to say 'help me'.
As if on comand, the tubes feeding into her body turn clear and fall away, as well as some of the restraints holding her back. Once freed, the doll begins the long plumet to the floor- long hair wavering behind her as more and more wires and tubes are pulled from her back and legs.

When the figure started moving, that was when Nyx's feet rooted themselves to the floor. She stared silently, watching, and was unsettled by the way the thing stared at her. Chaser saw something - she wasn't sure what - green moving across its eyes, and she decided then for sure that it had to be some sort of machine. But... she'd never seen, never even heard of anything quite like it. And when the thing started to fall, it was instinct than made Nyx move forward to try to catch it.

The doll shuddered and winced as arms were wrapped around her, blinking in her confusion. She looked back to see the woman who had woken her up in the first place, holding her in order to keep from hitting the hard slate floor. Smiling, she looked back down at the ground and attempted to stand, first maneuvering one leg... and then the other.
Once she stood up, another arm extended and dropped a little amulet around her neck, causing the frightened machine to look up nervously. And then she looked back at Nyx and smiled, finnaly speaking after a beam of light flew forth from her amulet into Nyx's eyes. Once the light receeded she spoke, "Thankyou..."

Nyx blinked and released the... thing, stepping back from it. When the bit of light hit her eyes she blinked a few more times and shook her head, finding it a bit unpleasant and being completely at a loss for what was going on.
"Uh, yeah, whatever..." she muttered, the words even more quiet and distorted since she had yet to removed the mask over her mouth and nose. She was starting to really regret having kicked that door. After a moment, when her mind stopped trying to work things out without knowing enough, Chaser looked the female over. Not bothering to hide her suspision, she asked more clearly, "Who are you, and why are you here?"

The female canted her head to the side, "I do not understand your inquiry mother, please rephrase your question." With a curt nod, the android looks around the room. "As to where I am it appears I am in some sort of machine chamber mother... though I do not yet understand the extent of the machinery here... it is a possiblity that, indeed, this is a holding cell of some sort... as you have released me from a prison like existence."
Looking back at Nyx she bows, soft girly voice eminating once more, "I am proud to serve you mother..."

Nyx stared at the female figure before her, dumbfounded. Most of the thing's responce was much like any responce one might get from any robot, but... "mother"? "Prison like existance"? She pushed that aside in her mind, just wantng to get to the bottom of this. It was just a mechanical puppet, after all.
"You can't expect me to believe you don't know who or where you are. You were just hooked into this bloody place, and it..." She trailed off, having no idea how to finish the sentence. "Alright, let's try this... What are you?"
