(Yeah, Poptart's busy with some real-life thing or something. I don't know whether he's stopped posting in this thread entirely or just hasn't had time lately, though.)
Jason stopped humming "What's Left of the Flag" and reached over to open the door. He knew Dr. Martin wouldn't like him letting Shane in, but he was getting rather sick of Dr. Martin, so he really didn't care.
"Feeling all right, Mr. Warson?" he asked, nodding at the taller man.

Shane walked into the the room. "Sorry, but I am not the kind who can just lie around on the bed doing nothing. I am better, at least I don't seem to be sitting in a roller-coaster anymore", he commented as he shrugged. "So did I disturb you both or something?", he asked in an innocent sounding tone, a grin forming on his face. "I can step out if you like...", he said turning towards the door while looking at Jason and Karina.

"I'm sure you're probably bothering Dr. Martin, but everyone bothers him so don't take it personally," Jason said. "We were checking in to make Karina's condition hasn't worsened... it hasn't, so feel free to hang out with her unless Dr. Martin's got a legitimate beef about it." Jason could see no good reason for making either Shane or Karina sit in their room and do nothing. They might as well try to get an interesting conversation, or perhaps a game of Magic: The Gathering, going.

The Doctor scowled as the patient stood outside the room, but when the York decided to open the door, he changed to a facetious smile and a high pitch laugh, which carried no real sentiment of joy with it whatsoever. In truth, it didn't bother him whether or not patients were up and about, because that was a thorn in the chief of medicine's side. What bothered him was that he just didn't like Shane all that much. It was nothing against the kid, just his outward demeanor towards patients that weren't his.
"Don't get too comfortable, Dr. York. We've got rounds to make in about....now." Dr. Martin shouldered his way past the Doctor and walked out the door to collect the charts for rounds.

"Hey Shane. How'd the surgery go?" She frowned at the remark Dr. Martin made, but ignored him. He seemed a tad on the sour side today.
((sorry for my own absence. spring break and i've barely been home long enough to eat and sleep each day i've had off.))

He looked around at Dr. Martin as he walked out. "I don't think he likes me very much...", he commented turning around to face Karina. "Hey, well I think something went wrong during the surgery cause I seem to have infection on my head now", he said pointing at the bandage. I think Dr York will be able to explain better. Actually even I don't know how it is..."
He looked at Dr. York waiting for an explanation. He was concerned about how long he would have to stay here. The season was about to start soon and he didn't want to miss any of it.
((I am wondering how to make him stay longer at the hospital since he seems to be ready to be discharged, right? Any ideas? ))

(Well, the infection has to run its course before he's discharged, and he can volunteer weekends at the hospital as an orderly or something after that if you don't want him to get too f**ked-up physically.)
Jason told Karina, "It's just a staph infection. Antibiotics should kick it, but it might take a few days. It could have been a lot worse, all things considered... but still, I'd rather you didn't have the infection at all, Mr. Warson. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm a few seconds late for rounds and that vein in Dr. Martin's forehead is probably about ready to explode." He smiled and left the room.

His face fell at Dr. York response. "Few days?", he mumbled as if not ready to believe it. He thanked him as he left the room and walked up to the chair and slumped down on it. "Well, I am screwed. I guess I will have to call my coach later."
He paused for a long while before regaining his composure and smiled at Karina. "So, you two got a thing going?" He hoped a conversation with her would keep his mind off what he didn't want to consider or think about.

Karina smiled, and blushed a little at the question. "Well...we did. Quite a few years ago our plane crashed on an island, and we were stuck there for some time before rescue. We sort of fell in love while there, but our lives went back to normal once we came home."
She sighed, knowing it was probably for the better they split after coming home, but still wished they had stayed together. Or at least in contact. "I haven't seen or talked to Jason, er, Dr. York, for a few years now, so it's a little weird being near him again."

"Wow, that sounds like a good movie I would want to watch.", he commented smiling. He decided not to ask more about the crash itself. No doubt if there were deaths, it would bring back bad memories for her. He dared to probe a bit further, "Come to think of it, this encounter with your old flame would be weird for you. So when you say it went back to normal, I am assuming I don't need to fear for my life if I try to hit on you?", he asked in a matter-of-factly tone, trying to suppress a grin from breaking out on his face.

Karina supressed a smile, and shook her head. "Well, it might bring up complications, but no, I don't think you'd be in great danger if you tried to hit on me." She wondered how Jason would react to that, his island girl gone flirty with another guy... The entire ordeal would actually be interesting to see the outcome, see how the doc reacted to Shane's actions towards the car-crash patient.
"You might want to take it slow though, just to see how he reacts. It will be interesting when he finds out what you're doing." She was starting to take a liking to this guy, but it was still in the friendship mode, easing slowly towards more-than-friends. Shane's personality and how things went later would determine other things going on.

He smiled, glad he had just gotten her approval to flirt with her. He thought she might have an attraction towards him as well. He knew he would find out soon enough. "So... what would you say I get us something better to eat than the hospital food? Don't ask me how, just tell me what you'd like... pizza, chinese... salad if you'd prefer it...", he asked listing out the items on his fingers.
He smiled and continued, "I can also get you a few books if you like but I would prefer it more if you didn't have anything to pass your time. That way, you would want to talk to me more.", he finished, grinning as he did.

She thought for a second, wondering how Jason would react to this, but she was curious about Shane. "Chinese sounds good, though I am curious how you're gonna get it, since I doubt they'll let you leave with an infection like that."
She paused, and thought of other ways to pass the time besides books. "If you could somehow get your hands on a board game, that would be better than books." Karina smiled at him, glad to have someone who was also bored and looking for entertainment in the same hospital. "Just don't let Jason or the other doctors catch you, whatever it is you decide to do. I'm sure they won't be happy you're entertaining a possible brain-injured patient." At this comment, she rolled her eyes and laughed, hoping he'd get the joke since the one guy is worried there's something wrong with her brain.

He smiled and nodded, "Chinese it is then. I will tell you how I managed arrange it if I am successful. How about that? The board game could be tougher since its bigger and a lot harder to sneak in the hospital. Besides, we both seem to be 'brain-damaged' so it might not be a very good idea to play something that requires a lot of thinking." He paused and laughed as he pointed at the bandages covering both their heads.
"Relax, I am not leaving the hospital. I don't have a deathwish." His tone became a little sarcastic now. "I can't tell Dr. Jason? Aww, I was hoping to invite him to our d...dinner", he said smiling, happy he had avoided the slip. He had almost said 'date'. He continued with a serious face though still sarcastic, "Can I trust you to still be here when I come back?"

Karina pointed out that she wasn't exactly in walking condition. "I don't think I'll be going anywhere anytime soon, Shane. You won't have to worry about me going anywhere." She smiled again, and agreed with the no-board game point he brought up. "Then bring in a deck of cards. Go Fish shouldn't be that hard even if we're both 'brain damaged', right? But whatever you do, be careful. We don't need any angry docs running after you." She smiled again and laughed, glad to have the company.
