LJ stared at the guts.
"Hey... That's kinda cool looking," she said, trying to hold her stomach. She spun around quickly so she wasn't looking at it anymore, and her headache came back in a sudden rush.
She groaned and grabbed her head. To cover herself up, she directed the attention towards Karina.
"Um... How long do you think she'll be out?" She kneeled in the sand and massaged her temple.

"I have no idea," Jason said. "She seems like a strong girl... probably not more than a few minutes, maybe half an hour at most."
He looked over at LJ... he had heard her groan, but hadn't seen what had happened to her. "You okay?" he asked her.

Opening her eyes, Karina realized she wasn't standing anymore. Instead, she saw Jason above her, and O'Connell doing something she couldn't see. She sat up, and realized what the older man was doing. "Ugh...That's gross. Did I just pass out?"

"Yeah," O'Connell said. "Don't look over here."
Kassia cracked her neck. "I didn't figure you to be so...squeamish," she said with a glint in her eye.

Karina shrugged, and turned away from the open carcass. She was still seated next to Jason. "I don't know what came over me. At home, when my dad took me hunting and fishing, I would always watch him or clean my own fish." She motioned to all the carrion on the beach and in the water. "Maybe seeing all this made me lose it just now."
Karina spotted the wood pile, and noticed, too, that the sun was getting low in the sky. "We should probably cook that thing while it's still light out, and please make sure it's cooked all the way. I don't want to get meat poisoning or anything like that out here." The young girl used a nearby tree to stand, and headed off along the tree line in search of more fruit. "I'll be back in a little while. If the sun begins to set and I'm not back, look for me." Karina hollered over her shoulder.

"She's independent, not?" LJ laughed under her breath. She stumbled onto her feet, still holding her head.
The world was spinning around her and she was struggling to remain standing. Next thing she knew, she was falling; before she even hit the ground she was out cold.
((I haven't been feeling too hot lately, so to make up with me not being on much, LJ's gonna be out of commission for a while.))

Jason went through the same procedure he had with Karina, checking LJ's pulse and placing a hand on her forehead to see if she was running a temperature -- difficult to tell in this heat, but still, it was an instinctive motion more than anything else. Satisfied there was nothing wrong with her internally, he checked externally to see if he could spot any new bumps or bruises in the areas not covered by clothing. He reflected that it was a good thing none of them were wearing much, as it made this type of examination much easier (not only that, but it would help keep them from overheating in the blazing sun).
Finished with his examination of LJ, he turned to Kassia and said, "You're not going to faint on us too, are you? It seems to be a recurring theme with women on this island."

"it would take a lot to make me feint," she said. As she said so, she began to swoon to one side and hit the sand hard....
After a moment, she looked up at Jason, "Did you fall for it?"
"I wish it was true," O'Connell remarked.

"No, but it was a good joke," Jason said. As O'Connell spoke, he wondered again what the hell was going on between these two. That last comment sounded like something a disgruntled ex-husband would say to the former wife he no longer loved. He resolved to ask O'Connell next time he could get the man away from Kassia... the woman didn't seem very approachable.

Karina wasn't really watching where she was going. The tropical plants fascinated her in a way the plants back home didn't. Her bag was brimming with fruit- starfruit, mangoes, bananas, and a few coconuts she found on the beach. The sun was getting low, and she knew it was time to head back, but she caught the scent of something sweet, and was currently following the smell.
As Karina emerged from a group of palms, she saw a large grouping of Plumeria trees that were emiting the lovely scent. I should bring some of these back with me She thought, reaching up to pluck a few of the white-and-yellow blossoms. Reaching up on tiptoe, she stopped as a rustling behind her caught her attention. Turning, she froze as two pairs of yellow eyes came into her sight.
"God help me." She whispered as she slowly lowered her arm and put her back to the tree. Taking a deep breath, Karina closed her eyes and hoped that for all she was worth whatever was behind those bushes wouldn't eat her. She yelled as loud as she possibly could into the pre-dusk air, "JASON!!"
((felt like posting something like this. i was really bored. is it ok?))

(Sure, it should be fine. I mean, I don't see how it could possibly violate any of the site's rules... you're not godmoding or power playing, there's no graphic sex or violence, you're obviously still in character... seems fine to me.)
Jason's head snapped up as he heard someone call his name. It sounded like Karina's voice. For a moment, when he realized where he was and that there was only on female member of his group unaccounted for, he mentally kicked himself. Then he turned to O'Connell. "I'll be right back," he said. "You can come with if you want -- I'd be glad for the help -- but I can understand if you don't want to leave the women alone." He arched an eyebrow, making it perfectly clear that he was actually saying he understood that O'Connell wouldn't want to leave Kassia alone with the unconcious LJ.
Drawing his knife, he ran into the woods. "Karina! I'm coming!" he shouted, not caring that if an animal was attacking her he had just drawn its attention.

"I'll let you handle this one, chief. But remember, pedophelia's still a crime," he said. And then he and Kassia were alone.
"So when will you tell them, Sully," Kassia said.
"Tell them what?" He replied.
"about me."
"No one deserves to know about that," he said, and left it at that as he continued cleaning the animal.

Jason laughed. Age of consent, as stupid as the arbitrary number was to him anyway, was the last thing on his mind right now... he hadn't even really thought of any of the women on the island in that way yet, although he imagined that once loneliness set in he probably would.
He heard something coming toward him, and led with his knife as he crashed through the next wall of foliage. He felt the impact of the blade hitting something solid, heard the body hit the ground, and looked down to see what it was.
"Uh-oh," he said. Lying at his feet was a man. Not someone from the plane... this man was wearing a grass skirt and bone jewelry, and not much else. His dark-skinned body was striped with white paint at seemingly random intervals. And Jason's knife was sticking out of his neck.
No time to worry about the natives getting restless. Karina was in trouble. Jason cursed, grabbed the knife and yanked it out of the tribesman, continuing his headlong rush into the jungle. "Karina! Where are you?" he called, hoping to be able to track her by the sound of her voice when she replied. If she still can reply, he thought, worried that whatever had caused her to cry out had already gotten her.

Karina heard a crashing in the brush around her, including Jason's voice. Apparently the two creatures watching her had too. "Jason! Over here! There are two...things...here. I don't know what they are. Be careful, cause they've heard you." The young girl remembered that she was carrying a pistol and grabbed it from her waist. She lowered the bag of fruit to the ground in case flight was necessary- not like she could get anywhere fast on her broken ankle.
One of the animals crept closer to Karina, though it stayed in the shadows, disenabling her to see what it was. The outline of a canine beast came to mind, but the girl couldn't tell whether it was friend or foe. She only hoped that Jason could find her before she was someone's dinner.
The second creature dissapeared into the trees, leaving a rustling in its wake. Karina hollered out for the doctor to be watchful of it, keeping her eye on the one nearest her at the same time.

Two 'things'... not tribesmen. Jason wasn't sure whether he was relieved or more worried. He moved out farther to the right, making as much noise as possible, trying to draw the other creature away from Karina as well.
He heard the one Karina had warned him about crashing through the underbrush toward him. He dropped into a crouch and crab-walked in the creature's direction, flashing back to the last time he had been on the paintball range. This was no different, except once something was dead, it was actually dead. He could hear the creature's panting breath now, and prepared to strike. A wolf-like beast erupted from the bushes in front of him, and he whipped his blade forward and jammed it into the creature's eye, hoping he had struck with enough force to get the brain. The wolf yelped in surprise, then fell over onto its side.
Jason heard something else coming toward him. "Scalpel," he joked, holding out his hand toward the wolf before seizing the hilt of his knife and yanking it back out.
"Karina! I killed one of them. Is the other one still with you?" he asked. If it was, then something else was coming toward him. He wanted to be ready for that.
