New Hope Shelter and Inn is located in Rohan, northeast of Edoras, and situated on a fairly large farm close to the river. It has been a refuge for people since 3020 of the Third Age. Here, people can get their lives together and be taken care of until they are able to be on their own. Some even choose to remain and help run the shelter. The doors are also open to weary travelers without enough money to go to another inn. Rooms, meals, and sometimes even clothing are all free. Donations or help with housework or work on New Hope's farm are appreciated. Enjoy your stay! Cellar: Food storage First floor: Den, dining hall, kitchen, rooms for shelter workers Second floor: Inn rooms for travelers (sometimes used for residents if there's a lack of rooms on the third floor) Third floor: Rooms for residents Grounds: New Hope Farm, stables, well, river, barn ((Your character can be a permanent resident or a guest, whichever you prefer. Also, pm me if you would like to be a member of Rhian's family, since none of them have names or personalities, and help with the work at the inn.))

*Rhian came through the front door of the inn, a little girl clinging to her back as she entered the den and closed the front door behind her. Both were laughing and the girl's dress was stained with dirt, a clear indication that she had been having fun outside. Rhian's father looked up from where he was reading in his chair by the fireplace, smiling at the pair.*
"Rhian dear... You have something on your back."
*Rhian gave him a questioning look, grinning.* "Do I really? Where?" *She began twirling around in a circle as though trying to see her back, giving the little girl clinging to her quite a ride. Rhian finally stopped before she fell over, giggling almost as much as her young friend. Trying to catch her breath, Rhian knelt down to let the girl off.* "All right... That's enough. You're going to wear me out and then mama won't be at all happy." *As if right on cue, her mother's voice rang out from the doorway to the dining hall.*
"Rhian! I need you!"
"Coming!" *She turned to the little girl as she got to her feet again.* "Run upstairs and I'll be along soon to give you a bath, ok?" *The little girl nodded with a bright smile and ran off up the stairs. Rhian quickly went into the dining hall, spotting her mother serving a meal to one of their more elderly residents at one of the long tables. She waited until her mother was free before going to her.*
"Rhian, Leofric needs new bedsheets. Poor dear had another accident last night. And you remember the man that came in yesterday? He needs another blanket on his bed. It's a bit drafty in that room. And his horse needs to be fed as well and he's too exhausted to do it. But I'm busy in the kitchen so would you mind--"
"I'll get right on it. Don't worry about a thing." *Rhian smiled brightly at her mother.* "Do you need anything else?"
"No I think that's it. Thank you, dear."
*Rhian nodded and hurried out of the room to get busy with her tasks.*

((I knooooooooow I really should not join new RP's because of my time shortage, but I just can't help it. It's an addiction. And I've rarely RPed with this one (live RP excluded) so shoot me for wanting to get to know him better. Is there some place where I can go in therapy? )) The warm rays of the sun on the old Dunadan's tanned skin were more than welcome. Somehow Rohan always seemed to be more sunny than Eriador... maybe that was the reason he liked to be here? Or maybe it was because he was so sick and tired of the dense forests and the tiny villages with their grumpy inhabitants. In Bree, he'd never have dared to pin his silver star brooch on his cloak as he had done now. For several reasons actually, but mainly because he feared it would only bring more trouble on him and his kinsmen than they already had with the inlanders. True, they had started to act nicer once they had found out 'Strider' was actually no other than their long-lost King, but for some it did not seem to matter. Either way, Arvellas felt happy, though exhausted. The Ranger walked slow, leaning heavily on his walking stick that he had been ordered to call 'staff' by his young friend. His frail shoulder-length grey hair danced lightly on the wind from behind him, obscuring his vision even though he pushed it behind his ears every two seconds. Thus his relief was great when he spotted a farm in the distance. Hoping for a place to recover his strength, he set out towards it, humming quietly under his breath to keep up his spirits. "New hope shelter and inn..." Ellas mused, looking over the outside of the building with a critical eye. He'd probably end up staying there anyway, but he just liked to try and gauge the quality before going in. Everything seemed perfect, and so he gladly stepped up to the front door and after knocking gently on it to announce his presence, he walked in.

((Ah! You are my savior! lol. I've wanted to rp in this place so bad but no one's posted! Thank you thank you thank you! )) *Rhian had gathered some fresh bedding from the closet and was heading for the stairs when a knock sounded on the front door and an older man walked into the den. Since her father had just gone out the back door to work and no one else was around, Rhian decided that she would have to take care of him since he looked rather weary. She quickly set the bedding down in the nearest chair in case he should need her assistance. She smiled brightly as she greeted him.* "Good day, my lord! Welcome to New Hope. What can I do for you this fine day?"

((*bows* glad to be of service ;D snh, this post is um... short))
Arvellas returned the girl's smile warmly, feeling welcome indeed. He shook his head slightly and ran a hand through his hair to get it out of his face. "Ah, just a comfy chair for an old man to rest his weary limbs will do just fine, young one."

"Well that's certainly the most simple task put before me today." *Rhian laughed softly, quickly moving the bed sheets and gesturing toward the now empty armchair.* "Please, come and sit. Make yourself comfortable. Would you like something to drink?"

Arvellas seated himself with a grateful smile at the girl. The chair was simple, but more comfortable than anything he could remember sitting on the last few months of travelling. He laid his staff on the floor in front of him so as not to hinder anyone with it and then laid his arms on the armrests, leaning back with a small sigh. Ah, perfect.
"A glass of water, please," he said in response to the girl's last question. She nodded and rushed off to get it, and the Dunadan leaned back into the warmth of the chair and closed his eyes for a moment, listening.
When the girl returned and handed him the glass, he smiled and nodded at her in thanks before remarking, "It's so peacefully quiet... must be a hard job, keeping the business running here. 'Tis not exactly an area frequented by many people..."

*Rhian smiled softly, shaking her head a little as she began to gather the bed sheets from the floor.* "It is indeed. And since everything here is free, it's a miracle that we're able to keep things running. Luckily, my uncle left us enough to help. Plus, after Helm's Deep, most people realized how many people needed help and gave us very generous donations. But the donations are always getting smaller and smaller so there's no telling how long before we'll have to find another source of income. We have the farm but we can only sell a small portion of our crops since we have so many people to feed here."

Arvellas tipped his head slightly, listening with interest. "Well," he said with a smile when she had finished, "that's certainly a noble cause." He reached inside his overcoat, fumbling in his pocket a bit. He then pulled his hand out in a fist, clearly holding something, and smiled at her. "C'me here," he said softly, reaching for her hand. As she held it out to him, he took it in his and let the coins fall in it, the metal ringing softly in its characteristic way.
"It's not much," he said softly, smiling, "but it's all I have. Keeping up this work is hard, I understand, but it's important to do it. There will eventually be a reward for it, though perhaps you cannot see it yet."

*Rhian's eyes widened slightly as she stared at the coins in her hand. She lifted her gaze to the older man, a little stunned.* "My lord... I couldn't possibly... I'd hate for you to not have money should you ever end up needing it..." *Her eyes once again dropped to the coins. She knew that the inn needed any money they could get... but she always felt extremely guilty for taking it from people... Especially guests since they usually didn't have much to begin with.*

Arvellas smiled, barely managing to keep from laughing. Money... when had he ever needed it to stay alive? He had it with him so that he could spend the night inside if he really felt like it, but he could just as well go without it. Most of it wasn't even spend on matters of his own, but more on things like this; people who were in need.
"I'm giving it to you," he said, closing the girl's fingers around the coins. "I don't need it. This inn does."

*Understanding that she wouldn't win this argument, and not fully wanting to win in the first place, Rhian smiled brightly at the man.* "Well... If you're sure... Thank you so much... I haven't met a man so generous in quite some time." *She could hardly wait to bring the money to her father later on when he returned. She quickly remembered all of the chores she had to do and the matter of getting a room for the man before her.* "How long are you planning on staying with us, my lord?"

Arvellas pondered for a moment, not having thought about that yet. The hot weather at midday was a curse to travel in, but he could not tarry too long in one place. "Oh, um, I don't know," he said, shrugging a little. "Till the weather's somewhat better for me to travel in, I think." He paused to smile at the girl, and before she could say anything he remembered something. "Oh and please, no 'my lord'. Sir if you insist, but I'd rather have you call me Arvellas."

*Rhian smiled and gave a brief nod. She wasn't used to calling older visitors by anything but 'my lord' or 'my lady' but she aimed to please.* "As you wish. I'll have a room prepared for you on the second floor, Arvellas. If you get hungry or want another glass of water, the dining hall's just through that door." *She nodded to the door that led out of the den.* "My mother will be glad to get you anything you want. Is there anything else I can do for you?"

Arvellas smiled in thanks. "No, thank you. But if there's anything I can do in return, then please call me. I'd be glad to help."
