The recent discussions got me thinking.
We should have a discussion/debate thread. For real world issues.
As long as everyone understands the rules of no belittling someone elses opinion etc. etc. So that its a cordial discussion.
Its an idea i figured i'd throw out there.

I'd be all for that, as long as Kait's okay with it. I've had fun in debate forums on other friendly, well-moderated sites. There's a potential for people getting flamed, especially if they express a particularly unpopular viewpoint (once I came out on the shooter's side in a thread about a school shooting, and people ripped me a new one).

I don't mind. I like debate as long as it doesn't get out of hand like Pinata said.
and as for the shooter side. it's a horrible side to be on, but it's not as if people just wake up one morning and are like "I feel like shooting my school." most of the time it's troubled kinds who were tortured in school.
watch Bang Bang You're Dead. Canadian film all about the subject. Really good movie. REALLY good.

I've never heard of that movie... gonna have to check it out. Weird how some movies that are absolute crap make millions of dollars, and others can come and go with absolutely no publicity.

well how much publicity would a movie made in Canada about school shootings get? with all the problems we have with that in our country, it only makes sense it wouldn't be found. I had to order it from Borders cause it wasn't sold in store anywhere. but it's really a great movie. I'd love to show it in schools, but what am I gonna say to my principal? "oh yeah, this movie is about school shootings from the shooters P.O.V." saying it's about school shootings is probably enough for them to say no.

Indeed, the whole point would be there would be a STRICT set of rules, and i would say it would be smart to have separate permissions for it, as in, should someone cause a problem there, they can no longer access that forum. It might be a little too much work, so I can understand if Kait doesn't want to. I was just throwing it out there.

I've considered doing that before, but it really does create problems. We've had discussion threads in other boards about controversial topics and they almost always get way out of hand so that I have to intervene. Really, I'm not sure that any small satisfaction gained from a debate is worth the amount of trouble it would cause here. I try to keep this place strictly for fun and community bonding instead of bringing in divisive issues, even if some of us do enjoy discussing current events and whatnot.
